Not sure where some of these people took their pets but it wasn't Old Dominion...it is always clean (even when it's nasty and muddy outside and everyone tracks stuff in - they are there wiping the floor when they have a minute to do so!) and they are great to work with. If Dr. Carter hadn't diagnosed my 9 week old puppy with a severe heart murmur and then referred her to Virginia Tech, then I'm not sure where we would be today. She ended up having balloon angioplasty procedure at VT which solved half of her problem. The remainder she is living quite well with and we get her checked yearly by Dr. Carter. He takes good care of our other baby too. We love the staff at Old Dominion and love the fact that they are affordable as well. more

I am sooo angry. I have one word for DR. and staff..... incompetent...I need the x rays to have surgery done on my baby girls ACL to find out he took pictures of her Hips. When I called to get the x rays i find out He took x rays of my 1 yr old pitt bulls hips instead of her leg after I told them I was there to check her ACL. He said it said Hip Dysplasia all over her chart but it wasn't in his writing so he didn't know and it wasn't his fault. HUH.. We never even discussed Hip Dysplasia during the visit. He said I should of told him and then blamed me. DUH .....I told him the sole purpose of making the appointment was for her ACL I NEVER EVER even mentioned her hips I was there for a second opinion. So he said I was wrong, basically telling me I was lying about everything.... He told me to be quite and let him talk and her chart said hip displaysia and that's what he did. OH Yeah ....and because I had to go back to work and left my husband there to look at the x ray it was his fault I need to talk to him about it. I thought he was the doctor.....SOOOOOOOO I guess the 20 min conversation about taking the dog to VA TECH to a specialist to talk to them about putting a plate in her leg for her ACL which will cost about $3600 or another surgery that i could do for about $900 but he didn't think it would work for my dog must of been all in my head. Then he told me he didn't charge me full price for the x ray.......Who cares if you didn't x ray the right thing......And please some one explain to me If you tell me my dogs hips are fine and you didn't know anything about the ACL Why in the world did you give me syringes and a sedative to keep her calm because shes a high energy puppy to keep her calm until we can figure out what we need to do or to see if it will heal on its own. more

Dr Carter is awesome! I have been through alot the past few weeks with my dog. I have spent so much money at other places and given little hope. I was told on Tuesday that I should prepare for her death and that her kidneys would not heal. I was at the office for several hours today while this wonderful doctor and his staff found answers to my questions. I can't imagine someone being upset that they had to wait because this doctor actually cares about your animal and not his pockets! This doctor and his staff were the answer to my prayers and I cannot say enough good things about them! My dog has been my fur baby for 12 Years and not trying to save her life was not an option. I am so glad I refused to give up hope and found this vet!! more

Best Veterinary Clinic Ever!! 4/6/2012

My dog was injured and I needed to get help fast...not working with a lot of money I was unsure how I was going to pay for his care. I was referred to Old Dominion by Angels of Asssisi. I am extremely pleased with the staff and Dr. Carter as they were caring and compassionate. When I received the final bill I was amazed at the cost!! I highly recommend this clinic. Dr. Carter is my new best friend!!!! more

Awesome Vet & staff! 11/18/2011

I was in need of a Vet & staff that I trusted with reasonable prices..... What I found was Old Dominion Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Carter & his staff have more than met my expectations. From fitting in my narrow window times for appointments to taking the time to talk to me and explaining things that I needed to know about the care of my pets. If I have had to wait its only because Dr. Carter has had an emergency or was taking the time to talk with someone about the pickup of a beloved pet. I have been extremely happy with all the services that they provide and will continue to take my animals to see Dr. Carter & his very helpful staff. Ya' ll are AWESOME! more

I love this Vet! They are friendly, there was no bad odor, and they take emergencies 1st if needed! 12/28/2008

I have been going to this vet for over 15 years now and have only had good experiences.\r \r I have never smelled a bad odor. The facility is always clean and the staff have always treated my pets (5 Labs +1 Cat) as if they were their own. \r \r They have 4+ Doctors, extended hours by appointment, and take emergencies. 2 of my pets have been been ""bumped to the front of the line before - once my dog was bumped by a car, and the second time was when my cat could not urinate. I suspect others may have been irritated, but I was very glad that my cat & dog did not have to suffer before being seen. I thanked everyone that I had delayed, and had even overheard the staff offering to let the owners drop off their pets (at no charge) so the Doctor could look at them as soon as they could. No one plans on ever having or being an emergency - try to remember that. Over the years, I have heard owners be down right rude to the receptionist - for NO reason other than being an easy target. \r \r My animals have always received excellent care from the staff. They educate me about vaccines, what my pets need (and don't need) to keep them healthy. And I have never felt slighted or rushed when it was my appointment slot. \r \r Their prices cannot be beat. I have been to other more expensive vets - & saw less caring in the staff . Also, it is a lot easier to prevent disease than treat it. (I skipped heartworm meds1 year to save money - boy was I wrong!!) I will never make that mistake again.\r \r I love the staff & recommend making up your own mind. Pros: Easy to be seen quickly. Nice staff that care about my pets Cons: Small building, small parking - although the dogs have huge yard to play in. more

Chaos! There are no words 7/5/2008

Dirty Parking Lot, Entrance not inviting. No grassy area for pet walking. Long waits for appts already made, without explanation. Small waiting area, Chaos from the time you walk in the door until you leave, \r Unusually smelly. Been there several times lately and at different times of the day, still smelly. \r Service does NOT equal charges. Think twice ! Pros: was able to book a quick appt Cons: emergencies bumping appts one thing, overbooking another more
