Editorial review from Citysearch 12/7/2012

Ditto to every thumbs down on this page. Really loved Dr. Olaru (used to visit her sister before my insurance changed, and loved her, too), but her office is absolutely inexcusably incompetent. I have placed over SEVEN PHONE CALLS over the past two months requesting information from my medical records, and have not received ANY help. First receptionist I spoke with twice and was downright rude, explaining they were too busy to deal with me. Next several were nicer and nicer, assuring me my message would be marked as urgent and forwarded to the doctor. One VERY kind receptionist went so far as to return my call and explain she couldn't get my information on this very day, but would happily follow up with me the following week. She didn't...I called back and got the run around yet again. Have they LOST my medical record, less than two years old? I was informed somewhere in there that they may have been archived, but I have a feeling they just can't find my files...I'm hoping I will not have to get a lawyer, but at this point, it may be my only recourse. Very disappointing. more

I waited an hour and a half to see this doctor. She saw me for literally under two minutes. She rushed so badly that it made me uncomfortable. Upon returning I booked my appointment for first thing in the morning. After my testing, I still had to wait about a half hour to see her. Really displeased. more

always happy with my visits 11/2/2010

I have gone to Dr. Olaru several times, and had a good experience every time. I switched to Dr. Olaru after some very upsetting appointments at other offices. When I first got to Dr. Olaru's office, I told her how upset I had been with my previous doctor, and she was very sympathetic. She diagnosed me, and clearly explained the problem. During my follow-up visits, she was nice and I never had to wait for very long. (Maybe up to 20 minutes in the waiting room, but that seems normal to me.) I found her to be totally competent. While I was visiting, the building was under-going renovations, so the building looked like a construction site. But inside the office was clean and calm. After one visit this summer, her office staff informed me that she was going to stop accepting my insurance, and that i would need to find a new doctor. This was very disappointing. However, luckily I got a new job and now have an insurance that they accept, so I'll be going back. The previous insurance I had was very difficult and took a very long time to approve the procedures that Dr. Olaru requested. I know that Dr. Olaru's office spent a lot of time on the phone with my insurance company trying to get my procedures approved for my appointments. So I don't really blame them for deciding not to deal with that insurance anymore. more

Got nothing better to do than sit and wait? 9/13/2010

This office is NOT for you if you have a job or a busy schedule. All three times that I have visited, I have had to wait an unusually long time while other patients file in and out. I am reading other reviews here that I am not the only one that has to sit and wait a long time. I am a very pleasant person, so it's not that I am being singled out. more

extremely caring doctors 10/12/2009

I have seen Dr. Olaru as well as Dr. Carrasco. They are both extremely knowledgable doctors who take their time explaining everything. They recently performed a surgery for me together and even when I called on a Sunday they returned my phone call within minutes. I haven't had to wait more than 15 minutes before my appointments and they are always able to schedule me appointments in a timely matter. Pros: patient, clean, caring more

NOT PROFESSIONAL at ALL 7/9/2009

Be prepared to wait for at least two hours before waiting again in the next room to see this doctor. Also, I had gone to her a few times in the past only bewcause she was near my apartment & after I already waited 2 hours & was an established patient; peed in a cup etc etc..her office manager barges in the exam room while I'm sitting in a little gown & says they stop taking my insurance and unless I was prepared to pay for office visit & lab in cash I had to leave... and YES they did kick me out. Completely unethical & who carries $700 cash on them anyway?? This is patient abandoment and AGAINST THE LAW!!! I called this doctor several times with no response of course & I wrote a letter. I'm now letting everyone know how unprofessional she is. She's nothing more than a greedy doctor. Cons: greed and waiting time more

Drs ok, horribly disorganized office 6/26/2009

cannot begin to describe how frustrating this experience has been. if you want a dr to diagnose you and then never return your call, never follow up w/ prior medical records being sent, and just plain IGNORE you after giving you a diagnosis, then go there. it might be hard to find a good dr you can trust, but what is the point if the office is too incompetent to assist them? more

Nice doctor, horrible office 1/4/2009

Dr. Olaru was the first OBGYN i saw when I moved to NYC. Although the office is clean and Dr. Olaru is pretty nice, I had a very irritating experience with my visits. Pros: Clean office, nice doctor Cons: Asked for too many extraneous visits more

My horrible experience with Dr. Carrasco 12/19/2008

While I've seen Dr. Olaru regularly for several months, I saw her husband, Dr. Carrasco, on an emergency visit when I was experiencing pain in one of my ovaries. I felt obligated to write about my visit with him on citysearch because I have truly never had a more degrading experience with a doctor in my life. Without asking about ANY of my medical history, Dr. Carrasco inserted a probe inside me for an ultrasound, revealing that I had a few cysts on my ovaries. While sitting in a horribly uncomfortable position (with a probe inside me, mind you), I was completely astonished to hear Dr. Carrasco ask me if I had ""read about PCOS on the internet"" as he casually diagnosed me with ""a disease called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome"". He explained to me that it was ""incurable"" and offered to me NO explanation and ZERO words of comfort, advice, or hope. I tried to explain to him that I had previously been tested for the syndrome several times by other doctors (all of which came out negative), but he continued to ""assure"" me that he ""would say the same thing to his own sister"", as if I was offended that his diagnosis was personal. Pros: nice staff Cons: horrible doctor more

BEST OB/GYNS IN NYC HANDS DOWN 11/17/2008

I have seen both Dr. Olaru and her husband, Dr. Carrasco. They are the BEST and I mean BEST GYNs I have ever been to. I highly recommend them, they treat you like family when you come to their office. They are always available and if its an emergency you can usually get in the same day. I totally trust both of them implicitly. I work in HR and when new female employees start that are from out of the area, I ALWAYS tell them I have an OB/GYN here in the city that is fantastic. If you see them you won't be sorry. Pros: EVERYTHING! They forgot to put my chart out once so I had to wait a little longer than normal, everyone, including the doctor apologized for the wait! Where do you EVER see that in a doctor's office. more

Great doctor and nice staff 2/6/2008

I just moved to NYC and I needed a doctor. Of course, I received recommendations from friends in the area. I called about 6 offices. Some did not take my insurance plan, some were not taking new patients, some took forever to reach the reception desk, some did not have availability for 8 weeks, and some had staff that were abrupt on the phone. I found Dr. Olaru through citysearch and made sure she took my insurance. I called the office and was able to schedule an appointment for the following monday and had several times to choose from. Pros: kind and attentive more

best obgyn 10/30/2007

Dr. Olaru is great! Her office is clean and comfortable. She has Saturday hours and I never have trouble getting an appt. Most importantly, she is kind and makes you feel completely at ease. She is an extremely competent OBGYN, I have recommended her to all of my friends and coworkers! more
