Oak Tree Furniture

I purchased a Simmons Big Daddy futon (around $1000) from Oak Tree furniture. After 6 months of normal use the front bar on the futon frame broke. I called Oak Tree to determine if the warranty was with Oak Tree, or with the manufacture. They informed me that they would take care of the problem, and asked for pictures of the broken piece. After receiving the pictures they accused me of breaking the futon, and said they would not honor the warranty. They did not ask how the frame broke, or for any additional information about our use of the futon. I informed them that I did not agree with the assessment as the futon is in a low traffic area, and receives minimal use. For the record, it broke in the course of being extended from sofa mode ot bed mode - normal use. The staff member with whom I was speaking transfered me to the owner of the store, who confirmed that we were at fault, and went on to inform me that he no longer wanted me as a customer. I recommend staying away from this company more

I've been looking for youth chairs for my grandchildren. They're too big for high chairs and too small for regular chairs. I found exactly what I wanted at Oak Tree. Not only did they have what I wanted but a selection in different woods, styles and finishes. They will be able to finish the chairs in a finish almost exactly like the kitchen table and chairs I recently purchased. If I had not purchased the table and chairs there I could have brought in a chair and they would have matched it. I love this store and can always find what I need. more

I was recently in the market for a new bedroom set and had been to almost every furniture store in the area with no luck in finding what I was looking for. After taking the advice of a neighbor , I went to a local family owned furniture store, Oaktree Furniture in Columbia, MD. WOW!!!! I had never seen anything like it! They have a beautiful store that just makes you feel at home! It took me a while to see all of the bedroom sets that they have on display because there was so many. After speaking to one of the sales staff I let them know what exactly I was looking for and they pointed me in the right direction, not only gave me one option but about 10 different bedroom sets that fit my needs. I ended up purchasing one that day and have been very happy with it ever since. I have purchased furniture at other stores in the past and have had many problems, whether it be the quality of the product, the sales staff, delivery personnel or just the overall experience. Well after shopping at Oaktree I will never buy furniture anywhere else again. One of the things that I enjoyed the most was that I wasn't hassled or pressured into making a purchase like I am at every other furniture store, I later found out that they are a NON-commission sales staff which made my experience much more enjoyable. The enitre staff right down to the delivery guys were very respectful and knowledgeable, I would highly recommend Oaktree Furniture and look forward to making my next purchase! more

Today Oak Tree lost our 3,000 sale because of their 25% restocking fee! They could not help us to ensure that our purchase would fit up the stairs (we have an old house with tricky steps) and the sales lady and the delivery guy could not tell us how we should measure. We went to 4 other furniture stores and none of them had a 25% restocking fee if there was a problem upon delivery. They all said if there was a problem upon delivery you must pay delivery and exchange for store merchandise. Oak Tree must be doing well in this economy to have a policy that turns off so many buyers. Pros: Good Quality Furniture Cons: Bad Quality Service! more

My elderly parents purchased a sectional sofa in March '06. It was promised in 4-8 weeks and was delivered 4 months later. We told the salesperson that we knew nothing about buying sofas and that it was the first sectional we'd ever purchased, we told her it would be going into the basement and we carefully measured the room to make sure it would fit (I even went home and drew a layout of the room with all of the dimensions to take back to the store before we made the purchase). When it was delivered, it wouldn't fit through the door into our house. When we purchased the sofa we were never asked about entry into the house (dimensions of doors/stairs/halls) and it never occurred to us that it wouldn't fit through a door of a house that's only a few years old. The owner would only take it back if I paid a 25% restocking fee (over $600). One delivery person said more than once that ""this happens all the time"" and the other delivery person, who said he'd only worked there for 4 months, said ""it's happened 15 or 20 times."" I suggested to the owner that he might want to tell his salespeople in future to ask people if the furniture will fit through their doors/stairs/halls -- he said he wouldn't. If they had asked me that, I would have measured carefully and concluded that this sectional was too big and I wouldn't have purchased it. I cannot comment on the quality of the furniture but I would never purchase anything from Oak Tree again.
