Had to shorten it up a TON, could go on & on about complaints...:/...but this is the gist... I only had 2 months left of my pregnancy with my daughter when we moved here. We were told it would only cost $1,410 & sometimes can cost UP TO $200 more AFTER the birth (figured that would be if I got medication or something) & that most insurances do NOT cover their costs. We figured it would still be cheaper than the hospital. Had a good all-natural back labor & delivery there, but was told I had sticky placenta & some hanging membranes (a.k.a. some placenta) left but I would be fine. 4 days later, I had to go back in b/c I had a huge chunk hanging out of me. Barb got it out (not Carla my midwife)...felt her hand all the way up to my chest inside of me. Never felt so fragile in my life. I bled VERY heavily for 8 weeks straight & was in MAJOR pain...to the point of crying EVERY time I peed & it taking me an hour JUST to pee b/c my muscles tightened so much in fear of pain. A year later, got a bill saying we owe them ANOTHER $2,800 (including $180 for the placenta they had left inside of me that they got out). It sucked badly, but my husband said we couldn't prove they only said $1,410 because all they had done was write out in pen $1,410 paid in pen on a paper & copy it...so it would be our word against theirs. We ended up paying it & kept getting them harassing us...& now 2 years later, just this last month got a letter from a collector's agency saying we still owe them $2,800 more which puts it on our record!!! We're not people to sue, but both agreed if this happens again, we're taking them to court. The people are friendly in person, & maybe they're just not good at keeping records, but they shouldn't have a business if they can't get people to keep accurate files & don't charge fairly...I am SOOO disappointed!!! Please, just consider what I've said...I don't want anyone to have to go through what we've gone through! :/ If you do go with them, make sure you get EVERYthing typed out & signed, even if you're the one who has to do it!!! more

Bad experience 1/30/2009

Where to begin... My initial phone call and subsequent email to them were never returned. A week later I called back and got ahold of someone. She said she was ""going to call me"". The office staff don't know much about insurance and I had to call them for their service codes that comprise their ""global fees"" so I could ask my insurance what the UCR was for each code. One of them didn't seem right - had a UCR of ~$90 where they were charging ~$500. (I never looked into it further.) At my intial visit they referred me for an emergency ultrasound (based on my described symptoms) and then didn't call with results! I called their answering service TWICE that evening to have them paged before they called me back, and then I asked them to call the ultrasound place so they could tell them the results by phone (ultrasound place wouldn't release info by phone to me) and then tell ME. I also paid for the initial visit with them out of pocket as they requested, and a month later they submitted it to my insurance and got double paid! A month after THAT (2 months after my visit) they billed me for the balance of $5! (Even after they were double paid!) I had to call my insurance to let them know they paid them and shouldn't have. I called three times to get a copy of the bill for the initial visit - first I left a message which wasn't returned, second I called again in a week and they said they'd tell their billing office to send one in the next week, and after 3 weeks I called again and she sent a hand-written one to me instead. They seem extremely disorganized. We had only one visit, with the midwife Barbara, who I will say was very kind and comforting and seemed very knowledgeable. But I'm afraid I'd never used them out of fear of being over-billed or having to wrestle with them on all kinds of administrative errors and things. They are very kind people, but do not seem very competent. They also won't do homebirths which is what I really wanted. more
