If you have never been here, you must go. They have great items on the menu, but once you have been there 10 times you will be hoping for more options. Pros: Healthy and delicious Cons: Need to change up menu more often more

Great Ambience 7/6/2008

It really is in a ""nook."" You would never expect to find such a great place where it's at. Food is great and the service was good. The group table in the middle of the restaurant is a little odd, but I guess that adds to the uniqueness of the restaurant. more

The last time I tried to eat at Nook, our party of three walked in to an EMPTY restaurant, ready to spend money, and we were told we had to have a reservation. We said, ""but there's no one here"", but were declined. \r \r Odd I thought, so tonight (four months later), I called well in advance to make a reservation, but was told I could NOT make a reservation over the phone and if I came in, I would have to wait. \r \r So basically, I guess you have to go there, make a reservation at some point in your busy day, then go back later to eat. OR you can just go extra early and wait in line like the common folk who DON'T make reservations. Oh wait, that was me until I got so confused I decided to order pizza instead.\r \r TOO MUCH HASSLE FOR CASUAL DINNER!!!!! Cons: Odd rotating reservation system. more

A lovely neighborhood bistro 6/19/2008

I had read and heard wonderful things about Nook, and for once, I?m glad the compliments were warranted. As noted in the numerous reviews, Nook is located in a rather nondescript shopping center ? the only sign indicating the locale of the restaurant being a large blue arrow. Once inside, you are transported into a rather modern, cozy oasis where simple comfort foods reign. Service was friendly, informative and attentive. And most importantly, the food was well prepared from fresh, delicious ingredients.\r \r My friend and I shared a plate of homemade french fries ? reminds me of In-n-Out fries but better and crispier, served with a yummy garlic aioli. For entrees, I tried the Chicken Paillard (chicken breast pounded flat, served atop garlicky mashed potatoes and sauteed rapini, with a lemon based sauce and capers) which was quite simple and delicious. My friend had the brown rice stir fried with veggies and tofu ? he apparently gets this every time so I guess he really really likes it! We shared a bottle of muscadet, that as promised, was very dry and crisp, and not sweet. It accompanied the food quite well. Dessert was the brownie with vanilla gelato ? perhaps I was too full, but the dessert didn?t wow me.\r \r All in all, I really enjoyed this place and will have to return to taste the other lovely sounding offerings on the menu.  Prices were pretty affordable. There is parking in the shopping center.\r Pros: Wonderful Simple, Yummy Food; Affordable; Friendly, Efficient Service more

Definitely a diamond in the rough 5/17/2008

When I first heard about this restaurant, I was skeptical. Almost all of the reviews were quite favorable, so I had to try it out for myself. Finding this restaurant was a ""mini adventure"" in itself, it's on a busy Santa Monica Blvd and located in a mini-mall. The restaurant is tucked away in the corner, the big arrow indicates where the restaurant is. Upon entering the restaurant, you will be pleasantly surprised by it's decor, the interior looks like it should belong inside a boutique hotel or restaurant row in Beverly Hills. There are not a lot of tables, so the restaurant gets filled up quickly. When we got there all the tables were occupied, so we ate at the bar, which was fine. In addition to it's unlikely location, what makes this ""hole in a wall"" such a gem is the great food. My wife ordered the Caesar Salad and a side of sauteed brown rice, and I ordered from the ""Small"" section of the menu: Crispy Fried Calamari (w/ wasabi aioli), Kurobota Pork Belly and a side of fries. The fries came with garlic aioli, and it's not too crispy (which I like), it's seasoned with salt and parsley, one of the best fries I've ever had. The Fried Calamari was crispy and quite delectable, and my entree, the Pork Belly was in a word, superb. Dont be fooled by the ""Small"" label, the portions are quite the opposite. To finish the meal, my wife and I shared the Chocolate De Creme (infused with Brandy), which was quite good, not too overpowering. Overall, I cannot say enough good things about this place. This is officially one of my favorite restaurants in LA. I told my wife: ""We should definitely add this to our rotation"". Oh, and by the way, the service was great too. If you read a negative review, dont listen to them...I'm picky about restaurants...you wont be disappointed. Pros: Delicious food, great and unassuming service, not expensive Cons: Gets easily packed on the weekends (being nit picky) more

What a yummy delight!! 1/28/2008

I went to Nook for the first time a few weeks ago....and wow, what a great meal. The place is a little hard to find and it fills up quick. We ordered the ceasar salad (the best ceasar salad I have ever had), crab cakes (what tasty delights), and as an entree the ribs with smashed potatoes (so yummy and good old fashion comfort food). For dessert we had the bread pudding which was so warm and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place. What a great find!! more

Tired of average overpriced food? 9/30/2007

We came back to Nook bistro last night for the second time; it was as great as the first time.\r \r This little place is definitely one of the best restaurants we have eaten in Los Angeles where 50% of the times are just about the looks, location and average overpriced food.\r \r We had the clam chowder, calamari which is just amazing, a Cesar salad and the rib eye steak; everything was delicious and approached in a very creative and tasty way.\r \r We are looking forward to coming back again and try different things on their menu, for now, we think is highly recommended even if there?s a wait involved.\r \r Pros: Parking, Ambience, Service, Wine List, Food. Cons: They do not take reservations. more
