Best

Their cake is also gooooood! I bought Chocolate Moose Cake for birthday cake for my husband. The cake is very sophistcated. Taste is not too sweet, but more ""chocolatish"". Highl...

Worst

The specialty breads are good, like the choc-cherry or the fig or the apricot-ginger, but the cakes and pies are next door to flavorless and with tough or dry pastry. Undersweete...

Red Velvet Cupcakes are really good 1/27/2008

On a whim, decided to try their baked goods. The red velvet cupcake (I guess it would be seasonal because of Valentine's Day) was delicious, esp, the frosting! Didn't care for the cheedar chive scone. It was too sweet for a savory scone and lacked the cheesy flavor I prefer. I can make a better one using the SF Chronicle recipe. Very popular place with a line even at the end of the day. Didn't notice any ill-spirited service. Pros: Red Velvet cupcakes, variety of baked goods Cons: Parking, cheedar scones should be avoided more

Customer Service At Its Worst 6/18/2007

I ordered a cake from this bakery because the cakes looked really tasty. I also ordered it because it's directly across the street from Bliss Bar. I was hosting a party at Bliss Bar and thought since I was dropping $65 on a quarter sheet of cake that the bakery could walk it across the street to Bliss Bar. I asked twice and was told that this was impossible. I couldn't understand as to why a walk across the street would be too much to ask. Apparently it was too much to ask for a tad bit of customer service. In this day and time consumers do not have to put up with bad service. This is truly customer service at its worst. I would never ever recommend this bakery to a soul. Pros: I would have rated this place with zero stars; however the computer would not let me post my comments unless I rated at least 1 star. Cons: Terrible service overrides the quality of the cakes. more

Good Cake 11/9/2006

Terrible service 4/14/2006

When I stop into a bakery because on impulse I want to surprise my staff with some pastry, I dont expect that I am going to be chastised for buying too much, and not pre-ordering. This is what happened at Noe Valley Bakery. The staff made sure I was aware of their irritation in having to box up 2 dozen pastry when there were 3 other people waiting behind me. When I let the manager know how embarrassed I was by the incident, he confirmed that because of my greed, someone who might be expecting that item wouldnt be able to have it that day. Makes me re-think dropping $60, or even .60 at this neighborhood establishment. From now on I will happily go out of my way to Tartine, they dont seem to mind selling pastry to customers in any quantity they can accommodate, and without public embarassement. Cons: service, staff more

Yummmmmm 5/29/2005

Good neighborhood, Great bread: Apricot-Ginger, Chocolate-cherry, Double raisin. Baguette:onion sesame. Enjoy coffee and a roll, sit on the bench outside and watch the world go by. Pros: Parking lot two doors more

Untasty 6/12/2004

The specialty breads are good, like the choc-cherry or the fig or the apricot-ginger, but the cakes and pies are next door to flavorless and with tough or dry pastry. Undersweetened, underspiced, underwhatever to make them yummy. Service is not that friendly unless you know the server and I OBJECT to a tip jar in a bakery that charges so much! Pay the workers well and don't guilt the customers for the joy of having a loaf taken off the shelf. Pros: bread good more

Great Rugalach 7/3/2002

They've recently added challah and rugalach to their repertoire. Both are very good--the challah is firmer and less ""smooshable"" than Semifreddi's, and the pecan-raisin rugalach are flaky, crunchy, and delicious--the best I've had in the city. more
