Do NOT finance your vehicle (or anything else, for that matter) with NMAC!!! I financed a vehicle with NMAC in 2004 and now, 5 years later, it is next to impossible to pay it off and get my title back.
I moved to a new location 9 months ago and at that time, I updated my address with NMAC. Since that time, I have received all my statements at my new address, and when I call their customer service line and am asked to verify my address I give my new address and it is accepted.
HOWEVER, I recently sent a certified check to pay off the remaining balance of my loan. I sent a certified check because I was told that was the ONLY way to get them to release the title without waiting 10 full days for a personal check to clear. So, I spent the $18 fee to get a certified check, and I sent it certified mail, so I know that it arrived on 5/13. Well, today is 5/28, and still no title. So I called today, and was told that the title was mailed to my previous address, in a completely different town (the one I changed 9 months ago). When I asked what they were planning to do about this, they informed me that I should call back in a week and ask if the title had been returned to them. They would not call me if it was returned, they would simply keep it. Cause that's legal, right??
So, there apparently are no other options but to simply wait and see if it turns up here or there. Even at that point, they weren't able to tell me what I could do. So much for sending a certified check via certified mail for safety. Now an important legal document pertaining to the ownership of the largest investment I've ever made in my young life is floating around God knows where, and there's nothing I can do about it.
As an added annoyance, their customer service stinks. If you call their customer service line, you can only talk to people in India who give you fake names and know a limited number of English phrases. They also have a huge tendency to interrupt and speak over you, and if you happen to ask a question that is outside their training manual, you get silence. I asked to speak to supervisors and got the same thing-- i think they just passed me down the line.
Bottom line, AVOID NMAC AT ANY COST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cons: NO customer service, incompetent actions
