This office is horrible. The people who answer the phones are neither friendly nor helpful. I would only recommend going here if you have something that can be handled in a single office visit, as the staff loses documents. I had previous immunization records faxed and the records were lost because they just deposit all faxes received into an indiscriminate pile. Additionally, after going to the doctors three times, some of my results were still not ready and the staff is not willing to discuss scheduling appointments or thinking about how to make the visits more convenient. They were unable to speak with me about these results over the phone and were unsure if they were allowed to fax the results to another number. more

This is the worst place .. staff including doctors are running a scam of robbing patients. Doctors ask for tests those are not required, they are rude and incompetent.\r My insurance asked for letter from doctor on preconditions for the tests done and doctor refused to provide one ... because they prescribe unnecessary tests .. crooks more

If you can find the worst, less incompetent staffs than these clowns, please let me know. I called the receptionist to leave a message to the doctor, she hangs up on me twice DEFINITELY THE WORST. DON'T EVEN GET NEAR THIS BUILDING. more

bad experience 5/8/2012

Rude receptionist-- After waiting for one hour for my appointment with doctor Bains today, I asked the receptionist girl how much longer do I need to wait before seeing the doctor. She said she had no idea. Then I asked how many people were in front of me. She first said 3, then 5. I told her I had been waiting for an hour and I had an appointment at 5;30 pm. She said all patients had appointments. Doctor Bains is a specialist, it will take longer to see the patients. (then why take so many appointments if you know you will run out of time??!!!) I asked If I could see the doctor by 7;30 (they close at 8pm). She gave me an attitude and said she didn't know. Knowing that I might not be able to see the doctor by 8pm, I asked for a refunded and left...I would suggest you do the same... more

Newport Liberty Med Center 12/14/2011

I went to see Dr Bhatt at this center and I received excellent service. I went in on a weekday in the morning. I waited about 10 mins. Dr Bhatt seemed to know what he's doing and was able to answer my questions. I would recommend that if you are visiting this clinic for the first time, to ask to see him. I guess I got lucky.\r more

Why not see another doctor ? 10/24/2011

I was shocked today morning to learn that since my Primary Physican was not in today, I couldn't see another doctor. When I insisted that I need to since I have had a bad allergic reaction to something and am in lot of discomfort, the receptionist said that she will have to check with my doctor, and when I asked how much time will that take ? She said , it depends on when the doctor calls her back. Basically they have done whatever they could to avoid my seeing another doctor, and its almost half day gone.\r \r I want to know if this is an ethical Practise medically, and if they can refuse patients like this ? more

Wished I'd gone to a Minute Clinic instead 8/24/2011

I went to see Dr. Hamsa Gangaswamaiah at the Jersey City office (Newport Liberty Medical Associates) for a throat infection. I do not have insurance, so I paid $125 to see her. She gave me an examination of my complaints and issued antibiotics for the throat infection. She had prescribed 7 days worth of antibiotics. After taking the antibiotics, I was feeling well. However, two days later, my throat started hurting again. I contacted Dr. Hamsa Gangaswamaiah's office to see if she can prescribe more antibiotics since she clearly did not prescribed enough. I was told she was on vacation and that I would have to see the ""recovery"" doctor or wait 13 days until she returns from her vacation. I told the receptionist that I did not have insurance and had paid out of pocket and that I do not feel it's fair to have to pay for another doctor visits when it is clear that the Doctor did not prescribe enough medication. She asked me to go in to see the recovery doctor the next morning and that since the doctor is on vacation that perhaps the recovery doctor will waive the charge. I arrived at the office the next morning as scheduled and was told I must paid $75 to see a recovery doctor. I explained the situation to the receptionist, who told me to wait for the recovery doctor and she will ask him when he arrived. When the recovery doctor arrived, he immediately told the receptionist that I have to pay $75 to see him. I feel this is a scheme to make or charge more money from the patients. A simple throat infection should clear up if adequate amount of antibiotics were prescribed in the first place. There should be no need to have a follow up visit. At this point, I am in so much pain that I will have to go see another doctor. more

My Comments on this office 6/4/2011

Doctors in this office as well as the receptionists are the most incompetent that it is not worthy spending time visiting them, except their pediatrician staff. My experience with them is that I wasted my energy, time and money and getting no useful treatment. Plus, they forced me to stick with Dr. Chenai because I used him the first time I visited the office. I wonder if this practice is illegal. more

hidden and worst policies 12/31/2009

Health care is a scam in this country but this place is few steps ahead. My husband visited this place for the very first time in August 09 and receptionist assign to Dr. Chenai. Few months later my husband went second time for some other problem and wanted to see some other doctor. It was told by receptionist that since Dr. Chenai saw for very first time so he can not visit any other doctor in this facility.\r It was shocking and surprising that how come this medical center will decide who should be the primary doctor without patient's consent. Dr. Chenai had attituade problem and even egoistic too and did not allowed to see any other doctor. Surprising to see that that medical profession can do such things. Look like this doctor got inferiority complex and do not want to loose any single patient came under him and is ready to do whatever he can. I will advice people to stay away from this medical center. If anyone knows where we can put complaint against this hospital and doctor. Pros: near to my apartment Cons: bad receptionist and hidden policies more

TERRIBLE CLINIC!!!! 7/6/2009

I agree with all the other reviews. This place is terrible. The staff is very rude, and the doctors are incompetent. This is why they dont let you switch between doctors once you have seen a particular one...they all are clueless and are afraid you will get several different opinions and end up suing them,!! I was given a strong dose of antibiotics by Dr. Hamsa when i had the flu and was six weeks pregnant. She told me i had no other choice and had to take this. When i asked my OB for a second opinion , she told me to absolutely NOT take this as it could have been harmful for the baby and to just take tylenol and sudafed for a few days and i would be fine. sure enough, was fine within two days!! They write prescription medicines for whatever issue you go there with and i have a feeling they get a kickback on every prescription they are writing. stay away!! Dangerous place to go for your health!!!!!! more

Stay away 12/18/2008

I had a very bad experience at Newport Medical Associates. I had a painful Furuncle/Abscess and fixed an appointment there with Dr. Rajasekaran. 2 years ago i had consulted Dr. Bhatt at the same place when I was insured through another insurance company.\r \r After making me sit (in pain) and fill lots of papers, i was told that i could not see Dr. Rajsekaran as I belonged to Dr. Bhatt. I explained that i had consulted years ago and my primary care physician now was Dr. Rajsekaran according to my insurance policy. In spite of my trying to convince them, that I was in lot of pain and needed immediate medical attention I was refused saying patient shipping is not in their policy (patient shipping, as though we were goods). \r \r What a callous attitude and irreverent approach. I will suggest that you stay away from these people with ridiculous policies (you never know when you will become a victim of that). Cons: Callous, worst customer service more

Horrible 11/12/2008

I agree with these other reviewers. The service at this medical office is abysmal and the doctors and support staff are low-rent. A perfect example of a crummy Jersey City operation. more

Perfect example of poor service 9/12/2008

I agree with the other reviewers about the support staff. They are the most unenthusiastic group of people I have come across. The phlebotomist doesn't make eye contact with the patients and her technique is poor. She needs a refresher course - tubes were drawn in the wrong order and she left the tourniquet on which is not the current recommended method. \r \r The doctor did not examine the patient. He took her BP and suggested a medication for every complaint. He forgot that he had recommended we take a particular type of BP medication and in the end gave of samples of another type of BP medicine!! \r \r I do appreciate that he contacted us immediately when we had an emergency. This place could be better if the doctors paid attention to their patients and took notes during the interview and they hired new support staff. But for now we have changed our care after two visits more

UnProfessional Receptionist 8/15/2008

I have been to this centre many times since i stayed just besides the buidling.\r The receptionist are very unprofessional and dont bahve politely and no courtesy at all.\r \r It would be great to have a recepitonist welcome you with a warm gretting instead of rude replies to the questions asked. Pros: Walkable distance for residents of newport Cons: Bad receptionist and average doctors more

Support staff does not provide any service 7/8/2008

My beef with this particular facility is that the support staff in the office just do not do what they are supposed to do and what they tell you they would do. They are also generally unfriendly, and sometimes downright rude, but that I could live with if I was actually getting any service. \r \r I was told, repeatedly, that they would call me back or get back to me, the same day or in a few days -- and they did not call me, at all. Not the same day, not several days later. \r \r An insurance preapproval took them two weeks to complete, and they did not call me once to let me know what was going on. I was told it would take two days ? and, when I called them after a week, I found out they have not even submitted the papers yet! \r \r Oh. Also, they cancelled an appointment at an imaging office I had without even telling me that they cancelled it. more

IRRESPONSIBLE LAB TECHNICIANS 1/17/2008

I got my lab work done here recently and had a very bad experience that I feel socially obligated to share it with others. The lab technician, who did my lab work TOOK A CELL PHONE CALL WHILE DOING THE lab work and WAS TALKING CONSTANTLY. On interrogation she did said her hands were free and she snapped back. I THINK ITS UNSAFE MEDICAL PRACTICE AND IT PUTS PATIENTS IN HANDS OF DANGER. I am disappointed. \r \r However, the doctors are very competent and good. Pros: centrally located in jersey city and open on weekends, good docs Cons: bad bad receptionists, long waiting time and unsafe medical practise more

BAD receptionists. call them and you will expericence their service. good doctors though ! 12/21/2007

The receptions are aweful - they always rush you up and dont talk politely at all. \r Doctors are very good, but downfall is that they are overbooked and dont have enough time to spend (except the 1st few appointments) more
