I went to see Dr. Hamsa Gangaswamaiah at the Jersey City office (Newport Liberty Medical Associates) for a throat infection. I do not have insurance, so I paid $125 to see her. She gave me an examination of my complaints and issued antibiotics for the throat infection. She had prescribed 7 days worth of antibiotics. After taking the antibiotics, I was feeling well. However, two days later, my throat started hurting again. I contacted Dr. Hamsa Gangaswamaiah's office to see if she can prescribe more antibiotics since she clearly did not prescribed enough. I was told she was on vacation and that I would have to see the ""recovery"" doctor or wait 13 days until she returns from her vacation. I told the receptionist that I did not have insurance and had paid out of pocket and that I do not feel it's fair to have to pay for another doctor visits when it is clear that the Doctor did not prescribe enough medication. She asked me to go in to see the recovery doctor the next morning and that since the doctor is on vacation that perhaps the recovery doctor will waive the charge. I arrived at the office the next morning as scheduled and was told I must paid $75 to see a recovery doctor. I explained the situation to the receptionist, who told me to wait for the recovery doctor and she will ask him when he arrived. When the recovery doctor arrived, he immediately told the receptionist that I have to pay $75 to see him. I feel this is a scheme to make or charge more money from the patients. A simple throat infection should clear up if adequate amount of antibiotics were prescribed in the first place. There should be no need to have a follow up visit. At this point, I am in so much pain that I will have to go see another doctor.
