Editorial review from Citysearch 7/24/2012

What a great restaurant! I had the best sushi I've had in a long time. The Ebi Mango Maki and Alligator Maki where my favorite. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very well decorated interior and plenty of room to eat. Very good variety of beer, wine and saki. Owner knows how to make his customers happy. Thanks for a great eating experience. more

Incredible Food and Atmosphere 10/21/2009

My husband took me out to dinner for my birthday on 10/19. I checked through the internet for this restaurant. I made a great choice. We ordered Sashimi, which my husband said was the best grade of fish he has ever tasted, it was so fresh. The Beef Negima and Vegetable/Shrimp Tempura were superb. The Tempura was cooked at the correct temperature so that after taking it home, it was not soggy with oil. The presentation and service were impeccable. The waiter was personable, cordial and was not condescending when questions were asked. This is a great pick, and which you won't be disappointed in. The menu has something for everyone, and is printed so that you can understand exactly what ingredients are used, which is great for any first timers. Pros: Food and Service is the best Cons: None that we noted more

Great place for dinner 3/2/2009

I tried New Ginza after the fabulous reviews I read, and I was not disppointed! The food is delicious, be it sashimi, maki rolls, california rolls, noodles, everything. I've dined there 4 times so far and have never made a reservation and never really needed to. We were always seated pretty quickly, I think the longest wait I had was 10 minutes. The staff is very curteous, and very attentive. I've only been there on Thursday-Saturday night, and our food was always fresh. I think this place is moderately priced, but worth it for the freshness, selection, staff attitude, and general atmosphere and dinner experience. The tables generally seat 2-4, and about 15 seats are available at the sushi bar. Pros: Prompt seating, fresh food, great selection Cons: Parking's sometimes iffy. more

Good food 12/30/2008

New Ginza is a cute place - nice atmosphere. The sushi is very good and the waitstaff are attentive. They have a good selection of maki rolls. I think they are a little overpriced, but the quality is very good. Pros: Food, Service Cons: A little pricey more

Great food, 3/19/2008

Great food, the very best Sushi Chefs, and the wait staff is outstanding. At the New Ginsa, I have never seen the bottom of my tea cup. Pros: Great food and service. Cons: Parking is limited more

Best Japanese Restaurant in town!! 11/17/2007

I think a mistake was made from the previous post. The waitresses in New Ginza NEVER wear kimonos. They wear white shirt, tie, and black pants all the time since the very beginning. rocca44 must have been to a wrong place and it may be the Ginza at Brookline or China Town. The waitresses of these two restaurants WEAR kimonos! The New Ginza (in Watertown) is different from them and that?s why they called themselves New Ginza. My wife and I are regular customers of this restaurant and we found that it is one of the best Japanese restaurants in town and in term of service they are the best I think. We always go there for lunch (we just had lunch there today!) and we found the waitresses are all very nice and friendly. They are always there to serve you whenever you need them. I also notice that they always check and refill your cup of tea or water before it becomes empty. Is it great service or what! Foods are always fresh and delicious! Highly recommended!! more

Very Disappointed! 5/12/2007

I went to this place after hearing all the great reviews, but was very disappointed. First of all, the place smelled as I entered with my friends (we all noticed it). The service was not impressive and was very slow. The waitresses wear kimonos, however instead of the outfit they should focus on providing prompt service. Be aware of the daily sushi specials that was recommended to us, and was not on the menu: we forgot to ask the price so we had the suprise waiting when the bill came! These specials were 3x the price of the sushi on the menu, but that is nothing. It was simply not worth it. Everything was way tooo salty. I sadly have to say that I will NOT revisit this place. Pros: fast food Cons: parking, too salty food more

best sushi in newton/watertown 4/14/2007

this place is fantastic. great ambiance, delicious and fresh food, fast service (even though the place is always hopping) and friendly staff. i am called by name whenever walk through the door (they got it off my credit card and always remember me!) and am always brought the low sodium soy sauce (i requested one time) and they ask if i would like my usual (and rattle off my order) it is either creepy or wonderful :) i never have a bad experience at new ginza. i always hear ginza in brookline hyped and i would definitely choose new ginza over that place. you won't be sorry! Pros: fresh and delicious, great ambiance, friendly staff Cons: a little pricey, parking can be tough more

good sushi, lovely atmosphere. 4/1/2007

i love all the blond woods and friendly waiters. you don't have to head into the city for sushi this good! great lunch specials. more

Great Atmosphere 3/26/2007

Some of the best waitstaff I've had at a sushi restaurant. Very relaxed atmosphere and pleasing decor. Food was a bit pricey, but good. The presentation was exceptional, though I'd rather skip that and save on price. Specifically, the Ibi Mango Maki was awesome, though I've had better unagi. Seaweed salad was ok, fried ice cream was really good. My friend didn't like his salmon skin handroll (which is his signature order when we get sushi), but he enjoyed the varied sashimi that he had. Pros: Ibi Mango Maki - unique and delicious. Cons: Unagi and Salmon Skin Handroll were so-so. more

This restaurant is consistently fabulous! 2/7/2007

We just happened to drive by it when we fist moved to Boston from Atlanta, and to our surprise it is the best Japanese food we've had so far. Every time we eat there the food is consistently fresh, the wait staff is knowledgeable and attentive. You must try the agedashi tofu dish, the broth that it comes in is very unique and delicious. We just made reservations for Valentine?s Day, and we were told that they will have some specials items on the menu. Maybe we?ll see you there. more

Most innovative sushi menu anywhere!!! 12/18/2006

New Ginza is excellent! It is the best sushi outside of Boston. The wait staff is so friendly, and they are great with children. The manager knows the names of all his regular customers and makes it a point to make them feel welcome. I cant wait to go to New Ginza when I get back home for winter break!!! Make sure to try the Mango maki, it is to die for!!! Pros: beautiful presentation, great service, EXCELLENT SUSHI!!! Cons: parking (try the side streets), can get busy during dinner rush more

Never had anything better 8/7/2005

I was at New Ginza about a year ago and I still remember the taste. I am an avid sushi fan and have had sushi from all over. THIS IS MY FAVORITE PLACE EVER. We need a New Ginza here in New York and New Jersey! Pros: Great value, Good Food, Super Fresh more

Best Sushi in Boston 6/24/2005

I'm a picky New Yorker and an admittedly harsh restaurant critic. We've gone to all the best-rated sushi restaurants in Boston, and think New Ginza is the best. It has a great variety of both basics and creations, consistently high quality, and a great friendly staff. Very reasonably priced as well. more

Excellent 10/30/2004

I go as often as I can. I usually end up getting takeout nowadays, but the decor is always clean and contemporary. I usually sit down only if I happen to be there for lunch these days, as it starts to get a little more crowded now due to the rising popularity of the spot. Parking is very much a hassle there. However, the staff and manager are friendly, and will remember you after 2-3 visits. Pros: Service, Decor, Menu Cons: , Dinner Crowds more

Yummy from a local 7/13/2004

I get take out from Ginza once or twice a month since they've first opened. The food is always so so fresh. Although you have to wait in a small hallways it's worth it. They often will offer you hot tea while you wait for take out if it's not so busy. I have never waited more than 10 mins for sushi and cooked food even when its busy. Ginza is new and well lit along with the waitstaff who always so nice. You can mostly get away with parking right along the side of the building for short visit. Pros: Good sushi more

The Best of the Ginzas 6/1/2004

Fantastic sushi that rivals, if not surpasses Oishii, great service and no wait!!! Only regret is that it is in Watertown, but that should help keep the crowds at bay. Pros: food, service, clean Cons: no parking more

Best Japanese Restaurnt in Boston 3/20/2004

New Ginza is by far the best Japanese restuarant in Boston. The quality of the food at New Ginza is complemented by the creativity in its innovative dishes while the service is just impecable. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and professional. Overall, just an awesome dining experience. I would recommend this restuarant to any one truly appreciates Japanese cuisine. I promise you will not be disappointed! Pros: quality of food, innovative dishes, professional staff more

Watertown surprise 2/3/2004

New Ginza serves up some of the best sushi I've ever had (every time I visit!). I'm constantly impressed with the food, service, and even presentation. Price is typical, but is a value when you sample their high quality fare. Be prepared to wait on occasion, as the popularity of NG seems to be skyrocketing. Great atmosphere, and the service is really a treat. Pros: quality, service more
