Relatively good experience at the Shadyside location. 10/30/2011

Maybe I just went on a good day, but I didn't have a hard time like everyone else that has reviewed thus far. I didn't have to wait long to see Dr. Gipson, and the girl up front was very conversational and pleasant during the short wait. She sounded like she'd been there a while, the way she referred to how friendly some of their regular customers are. The doctor himself was in good humor, was professional, and though the equipment is a bit primitive, it was cleaned and accurate. After the exam, there was one family in the front area that was picking up contacts, so I had to wait for a maximum of 10 minutes before the girl up front was able to show me frame choices. Also, I witnessed Dr. Gipson answering the family's questions about the contacts very kindly, not condescendingly as he's been described. He made sure that the family was informed before they left the store. \r The products are not ""over priced"" either; they are sold at retail price. I was personally intent on buying Chanel and the girl knew this, but she showed me several less expensive frames before I made my final choice. She explained to me what my insurance covered and my glasses were ordered with the correct prescription within two weeks after my appointment, as promised. And lastly, they have a very convenient location - which seems to be the only synonymous pro on here. more

Don't go there!! 4/2/2010

I have never dealt with a place so unprofessional. A month after I ordered my contacts there still not in and I was told it would take a few days. The office manager told me I never ordered them at first which was the whole reason I obviously came in for an exam was to GET CONTACTS. Apparently they had given me a deal that my contacts were included with the glasses and exam, when I called to see if my contacts were in a month later...the said I never paid for them..what i gave them 260 dolloars!!! more

Great place to get glasses 8/5/2009

I've been getting my glasses from Neovision for 4 years, and wouldn't go anywhere else. I noticed that there were some bad reviews written here, I don't know, I have always been treated nice there. But i guess with all the people in the world, there are some you just can't please. more

A bad temper is a sign of an inferiority complex! 7/16/2009

""A man who cannot control his temper should not be a man of business."" I overheard Dr. Gipson, scolding one of his employees so harshly- in a place of business that is unacceptable. He was hostile, repugnant, and antagonistic.\r \r I was so embarrassed. I cannot imagine talking that way to anyone, anywhere, any time. He wants to be something he is not...God.\r \r He is so condescending, cunning, shrewd and boastful. He treats the girls that work for him like they are so inferior and incapable.\r \r I have been going to Neovision for many years, due to the location/ and the fact that they accept my insurance. There have been at least twenty-five different people working for him in the last two years. Recently, my last experience, is the ""END ALL!""\r \r Three months went by, when my glasses finally came in, they were incorrect! He had to recheck my vision and re-order another pair. Three more months went by,\r I had to call every week to see if they were in-they do not call you to tell you they are in!?!\r \r What an arrogant narcissist. he had the audacity tell me that it is my fault that I cannot see...I spent over $1,000.00 on a pair of glasses. They took over 6 months to come in. (Because of the lab they had to use through my insurance.) \r \r The manager told me I could get them made into reading glasses, rather than progressive lenses.\r \r I could go to Rite Aid and get a pair of ""readers"" for only ten dollars. They refused to give me a refund. \r \r This is not my first pair of progressives...I know how they work. I just left and took the glasses to lenscrafters! I had them back in a week.\r \r The Shadyside store is the filthiest place I have ever stepped foot in. The girl went to put drops in my eyes, I looked up to rthe ceiling and ooooooooooooooh! Yuck! \r \r The carpet is soiled so badly and the current staff has absolutely no knowledge what so ever about lenses!\r \r Recently, a friend went in was under charged. She had to go back in because the girl wrote the price up wrong for what the insurance covered. She had to go back in and pick out a different less expensive frame! It was their fault-they should eat the cost, rather than inconviencing her.\r \r Their is also a major privacy violation, I was waiting for the doctor, while he was on his cell phone, Someone could of gone through every patient chart and gotten all of their personal information from anyone of those charts. Is that not against the privacy act? \r \r Someone could take your chart and put it into their bag.\r Anyone has access to all of the patients names by simply, just looking. they are all right out in the open!\r \r Social Security number, birthday, health insurance information, address. How many employees have worked there? Twenty-five, at least in the last year!\r \r You must of missed the course on ""ETHICS!"" You have no consideration for mankind. \r \r Bottom line, Lawrence, I think it's time to finally give it up! Your heart just isn't in it!\r \r \r Cons: Violation of Board of Health, Labor Relations & HIPPA privac more

Incompetent, Unprofessional and Rude 6/22/2009

My husband went in about 2 months ago for an eye exam, new contacts and glasses. He was told that they'll contact him in 2 weeks. They never did and he had called them instead. They told him 2 more weeks. So a month had gone by without any updates from them. My husband calls them again and was told it'll be another week. As it turns out, they had waited 2 weeks, when my husband called, before they submitted the order. They forgot. It's now 2 months and he's waiting for his third set of trials, which they claim to have by the end of the week. We also discovered that the doctor gave him the WRONG PRESCRIPTION (off by .50)! And it's now TWO MONTHS instead of two weeks and he's still on trials. But they refuse to refund because it's ""their policy."" We even told them they may keep the examination fees ( over $170), but they wanted everything. Becky, the office manager, also told us that it was my husband's fault because he inquired about some contacts that may alleviate the pain from wearing the current trials. Now is it not the doctor's profession to diagnose rather than the patient doing his own research and diagnose? And when my husband called today to confirm the ordering of his new set of trials, the employee snapped that Becky already told him it will be ordered on Monday and my husband should thank her. When asked for his name, he refused. We plan on complaining to any consumer/government bureaus and any board/affiliations the office has. We will also do our best to forewarn and spread the truth about the office, the doctor's incompetence, the rudeness of its staff and the length of time it truly takes for them to process the orders. I hope anyone and everyone who's had problems will follow suit. Pros: unfortunately, convient location attracts new patients Cons: unprofessional, inaccurate exam, rude, months for orders more

DO NOT GO HERE UNDER ANY ANY CIRCUMSTANCES 6/19/2009

I have gone to MANY different eye doctors in the past, and this is BY FAR the worst experience I have ever had with getting glasses and contacts in my life. The entire office is unsanitary. The staff is not helpful all and very disorganized. The merchandise is incredibly overpriced. They had no samples of contacts to give me to try out the brand I was switching to. The doctor had little to no knowledge base or recommendations about contacts at all. The equipment is outdated. I had to ask them to make sure they were doing everything they were supposed to for my eye exam.\r \r All of this, however, I could somehow get past if the end result was acceptable. 2 months after I ordered and paid for my glasses, I still have not receieved them after being promised them within 2 weeks of my appointment. \r \r There are tons of good doctors around the area. My suggestion is to go to ANY OF THEM except this one. Pros: Reasonably convenient location Cons: Everything else more

Is this a Physicians Office or a store? 6/7/2009

How many physicians offices have only 1-2 staff members? How many stores in Shadyside, Walnut St, never the less, have only 1-2 salespeople? Neovision needs to decide whether to be a physicians office or a store! When I walked in, there was one female doing paperwork, trying to make files for upcoming appt's.or something. She swiftly got up and was quite eager to help me, she was friendly, vivacious & suprisingly informative, however, the phones were ringing off the hook, people wanting to make appt.'s-she was back and forth so much I thought she would get whip-lash. Crowd increased-People picking up contacts and glasses. I just left! Seriously, I only ever see 1-2 employees & only one is a regular. Doctors needs to hire a secretary for the office and the owner needs to hire salespeople for the floor. I never saw anything like it. Total Chaos. \r \r One would think, that if they're selling glasses for $500-$700. they could certainly hire more salespeople.\r Pros: Largest selection of frames, informative knowledgable staff Cons: Understaffed more

Terrible! 6/5/2009

The clerical staff is terrible, and they must be temps because I have never seen the same person there. They are inexperienced and treat you with no respect. I called to order contacts, and they told me they had to take care of patients and they will call back later. Am I not considered a patient? \r \r Additionally, the doctor has a very pompous attitude. When asking him a question, he gives a smart response, belittling you. He doesn't explain the procedure completely, and just expects you to let him continue. He gets authorative if you get scared or nervous, and actually yelled and lectured me. To be treated that way by a medical doctor is not only unprofessional, but also unethical. \r \r Pros: Nothing more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE 5/8/2009

This place was awful. The girls that work in front are so bitchy and condescending (completely out of line), and the doctor is a skeeve and quite rude. He talked to me like I was a child, gave me eye drops as a ""precautionary measure"" against a ""possible"" infection, and then when I came back in a week to pick up my new glasses, they charged me $20 so the doctor could check on my ""infection""... I HAD NO INFECTION!! I agree about the comment regarding the setup - the front is nice but the back rooms are sketchy and you don't feel like you're in a clean, medical environment. They messed up my glasses, (which were ridiculously expensive). Every time I call they are completely clueless about my account. I need to find a new place.. Pros: location Cons: everything else more

DO NOT GO HERE, LIAR, RUDE 3/8/2009

If you care about your eye health (and pocketbook), DO NOT GO HERE. Gibson is a slumbag and should be in jail. He has idiots working for him who don't know what they are doing and everyone there is extremely RUDE. The force you to buy contacts because they don't have trials and then when you get a cheaper one because the first ones didn't work they first make you feel like an idiot because they didn't fit your eye...then don't give you a refund!! I still have contacts I can't wear sitting in my room because I couldn't return them. I ended up calling my insurance company and telling them how awful because the lady said she was going to dilate my eyes...put some drops in my eyes...yet they never became dilated. Luckily my insurance understood and let me go see another doctor. They say the glasses you are trying on are the last pair...yet you can go online anywhere and find them for at least 100 cheaper...oh, and do they not realize they should be able to ORDER them? I could go on but in short...DO NOT GO HERE Cons: Everything more

Terrible, terrible. 8/13/2008

I have never seen such a mickey-mouse operation. It seemed shady from the beginning and had the feel of a car dealership instead of a doctor's office. The attitude from the staff was clearly more about sales than patient care. The front of the store is nice, but the exam area is cramped, cluttered with miscellany, and dirty. It looks more like a storage area than an examination room. The contrast is shocking. You don't actually see the doctor, unless you complain. You see a tech who has absolutely no idea what was going on, can't spell, and just repeats ""I'm not medical"" when you ask questions. Honestly, I think the technician may have been a bit ""slow."" Unless you ask, they are VERY CAREFUL about making it seem like you're seeing a doctor, but you're not. Ask them what the level of training the person evaluating you is. I had to ask them to clean the machine they were going to use to examine me. When the tech tried to put some eye drops in my eye without washing his hands or telling me what the drops were for I complained and the doctor came in. I clearly stated my objection: what if the tech had treated someone with an eye disease earlier and forgot to wash his hands? I'm supposed to TRUST that they're clean? The doctor was rude, condescending, and seemed baffled that I would question him (or his, and I'm not kidding, mildly retarded technician). The doctor said, ""we was our hands AFTER we see each patient."" I still protested, stating that I would like to see the person poking at my eyes wear gloves or AT LEAST wash his hands. The doctor responded: ""Do you wash your hands after every time you touch a doorknob?"" This was ridiculous. I don't put doorknobs in my eyes. So, I took my paperwork and left. I would NEVER set foot in the store again. I have been in health care for 10 years and have never seen this kind of flagrant disregard for patient safety and basic hygiene. DO NOT VISIT THIS ESTABLISHMENT IF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH!\r \r Cons: dirty, rude staff, poor hygiene, questionable HIPAA compliance (have those forms looked at by a lawyer, doc) more

Worst Eye Doctor 8/23/2007

I have had to go to this place 8 times EIGHT times all ready. They messed up my contact order 4 times and my glasses once. I have had three eye appointments just to try and get contacts. i have had to go in 5 to 5 other times just to pick up ""trial pairs"" of contacts that didn't work. Then my glasses were messed up so i had to go in another time to pick them up again. Thank goodness i had an extra pair! The doctor never listens to what my problem is and if he had this may not have happened... my contact didn't fit right and he just kept changing the prescription (which i think is still wrong) but he refused to understand what i was saying until he finally looked in my eye!!! now i just got off the phone with them for the umteenth time and they didn't order my contacts yet which i had called 2 weeks ago about. I have been interacting with this place for 3 months for just some contacts and lenses. I have to move out of state in 8 days and i am worried i wont get these contacts in time. This has been the most rediculous event. The prices are insane. The doctor wont give you cheaper contacts with brands i have heard of or anything. i paid over 250 dollars for contacts and lens in old frames and that is on top of the money my insurance put out for this. So just go to america's best or something cheaper. Some of the staff is nice but some dont listen to you either. If i haven't convinced you not to go here i am not sure what else i can do. DONT GO HERE!! Pros: They have cute glasses if you can afford it Cons: Price, Listening skills, competence, time more
