Best

Love the food! The best food I've had in a long time. The service was a little slow. But I didn't mind.

Worst

I totally agree with every reviews on here that talk about the terrible service and rude awful manager. I've eaten at nakama a few times. It's either hit or miss. My time there is...

Fantastic Sushi!! 9/17/2006

Nakama is by far the best spot for sushi that I have found in the city. It has a great atmpsophere for casual city dining. Prompt service, friendly, and reasonably priced!!\r Highly recommend the key lime pie martini more

Great Ambiance! 9/17/2006

Nakama is a great place for some after work, evening, or weekend gathering with friends. The sushi is delicious, the atmopshere and decor of the place is very metropolitan, and the overall enviornment is perfect for young and old alike.\r Highly recommend this carson st. hot spot! more

Good place but according to these reviews, definetly much overrated 9/17/2006

I was reading the reviews, and since the Nakama email with $10 offer for a good review was passed out, there were additional 5 reviews in 10min timeline talking about how great Nakama is. Well, for people that are looking forward to the certificate, just want to say don't get your hopes too high. I, similarly to the guy that posted a negative review, had the experience where I received a certificate in the mail, took three friends at the dinner - bill totaled $160 and at the end guess what? - the $10 certificate does not apply because we should've told the waitress at the beginning that we were going to use one. While food was good, the customer service tryuly lacked. more

No value for the price!!!! 9/17/2006

These reviews mean nothing!! They are a result of bribes from the owner. If you write a good review you get a $10 coupon!!!!! The food is not authentic Japanese. It's expensive. The ""non-smoking"" area is smokey because it's right beside the bar with little separation!! more

Great place to dine. 9/17/2006

I have gone to Nakama on 2 occasions with my boyfriend. Both times we were greatly impressed with the service and food. I ate at the Hibachi grill and the food was excellent and the show that the server did made the dining experience that much more enjoyable. Everything is cooked to order right in front of your face which makes Nakama a great place to order steak from. I had other people tell me that Benihana's was better and when I finally went there I thought it was dirty and the food did not compare to Nakamas whatsoever. So if you are looking for a place to take your significant other, or even the family.. I highly recommend Nakama! Cons: parking is a hassle but they do offer valet. more

Best Restaurant and Atmosphere in Pittsburgh!! 9/17/2006

I have been coming to Nakama since it opened. My boyfriend and I had our first date there at the sushi bar and continue to celebrate monthly (or as often as we can) only at Nakama. When we go out to dinner...we go to Nakama. The hibachi is wonderful, the sushi is awesome, atmosphere is chic, and the people are sweet. There is no other place I would rather spend my money than Nakama. Most of the time I come for sushi; I have tried other sushi places in the city and they do not compare to Nakama's. I used to go to the Hibachi restaurant in Monroeville before Nakama opened and now...I don't even step foot in another Japanese Steakhouse. We celebrate every birthday and every special occasion at Nakama (including a pre-game dinner for a bachelorette party in August). Pros: Food, drinks, atmosphere...everything! Cons: There are non more

you will be satisfied!!!!!! 9/17/2006

AWESOME service.!! the food is outstanding!!! I personally think this is the best place in the city right now to eat. I have yet to have a more positive eating experiance!!! NAKAMA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: THE STAFF AND THE FOOD!! I WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE A 12 OUT OF `10!!! Cons: THEY HAVE NONE!!!!!! more

sick from food 9/17/2006

I went to Nakama recently with a group of 10 people to celebrate a birthday. I didn't even make it halfway home without having to pull over. EVERY SINGLE ONE of us got HORRIBLE food poi'son'ing. I called the restaurant the next day and they told me they didn't know what we were talking about, that this never happened before. They barely apologized only after I made it very clear how sick ALL of us were ...for days! I got a $20 giftcard in the mail WEEKS later...and our bill was several hundred dollars! To make matters worse...I talked to my friend a few days later and she told me that the same thing happened to her. Since then I've heard several more stories, all about food pois'on'ing from there. The worst part of all, we all had something different to eat, so we couldn't really pinpoint it on one item. Obviously something isn't being prepared properly. I work in the restaurant industry and let me tell you, it takes a LOT of mishandling and lack of care and dirtiness to get sick from food. It's really not that difficult to store and prepare food properly. My advice is to stay away, there are plenty of other places you can eat at that actually CARE and won't make you horribly sick! Cons: sick from food, bad service, lack of care more

Best sushi ever!!!! 9/17/2006

Nakama is my first experience with sushi and I absolutely love it! My frineds go to Nakama 2-3 times a month and I always have a great time there. The food is fantastic and the service is wonderful. I never leave there unsatisfied. Pros: Food and service is great Cons: Parking but everywhere in South Side is hard to find parking more

Best Japanese Place in Pittsburgh 9/17/2006

Nakama is of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at before. My husband adn i drive over an hour to ome there because its that good!!! Everyone must try it!!!! Pros: Food is great! Cons: hard to park on the weekends more

My favorite restaurant in the burgh. 9/17/2006

I have been to Nakama on numerous occasions and always recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to eat. The food is delicious, the show is exciting, and the atmosphere is always fun. I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant and look forward to enjoying it for many meals to come. more

Everytime I go to Nakama, my friends and I have the best time! We love the atmosphere and the food is phenomonal! Our favorite appitizer is the Yakitori and we love the hot waiters too! If you're looking for great food in Pittsburgh, this is where you should go! Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Price more

Dinner plus Entertainment 9/17/2006

Nakama Japanses Steakhouse is one of the hottest places on Pittsburgh's Southside. Come early or make reservations for this very entertaining meal. Service is fantastic even when the place is crowded - and it does get crowded on weekends, which only positively adds to the atmosphere. Menu offers a wide selection of entrees, sushi, and appetizers that represent the best in Pittsburgh. Keep an eye out for promotions and give-aways as they are plenty offered year round and are gladly accepted (it is also a good idea to join their members club as it is another great way to get free meals). The decor and atmosphere of Nakama is outstanding and the chef's are all top notch. My family has been dining at Nakama since it's inception a few years back and have always had a fantastic time and never a single problem (the servers will even go out of their way for those with food allergies to make sur ethat everything is prepared correctly). The staff is extremely curteous and the owners truly care about their patrons - we have received multiple letters and gifts from the owners directly as members of their rewards program. Last but not least, if you are looking to find out where many Pittsburgh Steelers like to dine, make your way to Nakama. If you are looking for a fast inexpensive meal, I would stay away, but if you are interested in great food with lots of flare, then Nakama is the spot for you. Dinner plus entertainment - Nakam makes for a very fun eventful evening (or lunch!) Pros: Decor, service, bar Cons: Very busy on nights and weekends, but isn't that a good sign? more

Great Sashimi 9/17/2006

A great place for sushi. I sat in the bar area and Stephanie, the bartender, took excellent care of us. I met some friends for lunch, it was busy but not crowded. The appetizers were great and the sashimi platter was top notch. Very fresh and very yummy. I recommend Nakama to all of my friends. Pros: Excellent service more

Entertaining and Delicious! 9/17/2006

I've eaten at Nakama several times and the only problem I've ever experienced was not being able to go enough! The food was absolutely delicious. I especially recommend the seafood diablo. It's my favorite. The food is well priced and the portions are large. Every chef I've had has been friendly and entertaining, and the waitresses were always polite and courteous. The service was fast and accurate as well. Overall, no complaints, but make sure to make reservations, because a lot of other people love it too! Pros: food, ambience, service Cons: wait, parking more

Loved the atmosphere! 9/17/2006

Loved the atmosphere. My husband and I ate there for our 2nd anniversary and we really enjoyed the whole experience. The food was delicious--similar to many other cook-the-food-in-front-of-you Japanese restaurants, but the atmosphere of this restaurant set it apart from the rest. more

Great Sushi, Fun Atmosphere, Awesome Experience 9/17/2006

My wife and I recently visited Nakama and loved it. I had a great selection of sushi including Avocado noki and tuna rolls which were perfect. We then ate at the Hibachi and had a wonderful time watching them cook our food. Overall it we both had a great time. Pros: Great Sushi, Great Entrees, Fun Cons: Soup and salad more

Definitely THE place to eat. 9/17/2006

Nakama is definitely the place to go if you want to have fun, delicious food (i recommend the Kobe beef and any of their sushi), and yummy drinks (I highly recommend the sexpotini). Ive never had a bad time at Nakama - its always great fun with your friends and even with the people you get to meet at your table. Although its always busy - that just adds to the atmosphere! The bar is always a great place to get drinks (they have a great list of really good cocktails) while you wait for your table. Its definitely THE place to eat if you want the whole package. Pros: Atmosphere. Large menu. Yummy food. Cons: Parking. more

Best Japanese Restaurant 9/17/2006

Nakama is by far my very favorite restaurant. The atmosphere is inviting, trendy in the bar area, and a little more subdued in the hibachi dining section of the restaurant. The chefs are both skilled and entertaining. It is truly a unique experience every time I go to the restaurant as I have always been treated to a savory meal and a creative show with food and fire on the side. The bartenders always create a delicious accompaniment to the food. I highly recommend the citrus martini with a touch of heavenly sugar on the rim of the glass. So grab a special friend and head for the South Side. Nakama is the place to be. Pros: Too many to list. Cons: Sometimes tough to get in on a Saturday without a reservation. more
