Best

Love the food! The best food I've had in a long time. The service was a little slow. But I didn't mind.

Worst

I totally agree with every reviews on here that talk about the terrible service and rude awful manager. I've eaten at nakama a few times. It's either hit or miss. My time there is...

Best Sushi in Town 9/17/2006

Prices are VERY reasonable for the quality of the sushi you recieve. I definitely would suggest sampling the Nakama Roll along side one of the signature martini's from the martini menu (also one of the best I have seen in Pitt - very creative). Highly reccomended to anyone from families to dates! Pros: Great Food, no wait/reservation for just sushi Cons: absolutely nothing more

Great croud, great bar & bar tenders, great place to eat. 9/17/2006

Had dinner there for a group of 8 about a month ago; what a great experience from the servie to the food choices and quality. Will be back many times. more

Good Enough to eat Every Monday!! 9/17/2006

Ever since I came to Nakama one night for dinner almost a year ago, I've been in love. The food, atmosphere, and experiences (and unfortunately the pounds get added in as well), I gain everytime I come to Nakama I wouldn't trade for anything!! \r Mondays are my special days... Every Monday I walk in the door and am pleasantly greeted by name by whomever is at the front desk. They know I love Rae as a server so they seat me at her table. Before she even greets us, she comes walking over with a tray of waters and hot tea (my usual) and asks if I want to start with the Hanalaei Roll, which I do. The rest of my afternoon is filled with great food, great service and great fun as Rae, Chef Luke, and the rest of the Nakama staff take care of me and the guests I bring. It may sound trivial to some, but I so much look forward to my visits!!! And when I don't make it, the following week everyone asks where I've been! I work at a restaurant in South Side and I always suggest to my guests who are in town for the week to get to Nakama. For as many times as I've been there, I have maybe had 2 or 3 not so great experiences. However, all I had to do was say something about it and Nakama accomodated me the best they could. My favorite place of all time. I was there last Monday and once again Saturday for my mothers birthday! Recommended for all ages and food cravings, and any and all occassions! My advise is to try and make it during lunch hour. They offer phenominal lunch prices that you can't beat for the value!! Pros: Lunch menu, dining between 4 and 6, Nakama Rewards Card :) Cons: Not getting Luke or Colin as my Chef!!! more

Great food, good times 9/17/2006

This restaurant is my favorite when I travel into the city. If you want to eat there on the weekends (or on a busy week night), be sure to have a reservation. There's a wide selection of hibachi and sushi. They have food for every kind of eater. Parking is always hard to find on the South Side, so be prepared to drive around a bit (if the valet is full). more

Best Sushi in the burgh 9/17/2006

Nakama has the best sushi that I've had in Pittsburgh. The Hawaiian and Hanalei rolls are to die for. I've had some similar rolls around here but nothing compares to the freshness at Nakama. Nakama also beats some of the best Sushi restaurants in Miami. The sushi chefs are wonderful!!\r Five stars!!! Pros: Great food Cons: Sometimes hard to get a seat at the sushi bar more

Best Dinner Ever! 9/17/2006

I have been to Nakama on several occasions. Once with my children. I have never had a bad experience. In fact, my children loved it so much that if they had their way we would eat there everyday! The staff is very friendly & the cooks are wonderful. It was a wonderful experience. If you are in the SouthSide area, you should stop by and give Nakama a try. It is an experience like no other!!!!!! Pros: food Cons: if you are a shy person, try going with a group of friends. more

great night out 9/17/2006

When you go to Nakama, you go for the experience - it's like none other in the city. I love the atmosphere, and the staff is very attentive. Overall, it's always a fun night out with friends when we dine there. And, to top it off, I never even like Japanese food until I tried it there! Pros: atmosphere more

I heart Nakama!!! 9/17/2006

Nakama is by far the best Japanese Steakhouse I have ever been to. The food is excellent and the service is friendly and quick! This is the resturant I pick on special occasions like birthdays and anniversarys!! I promise if you go to Nakama you will NOT be disappointed!! Pros: Great food and service Cons: NONE! more

AWESOME dining on the south side! 9/17/2006

I LOVE Nakama! I have been there many times and can't get enough. I was just there this week and had anoter tremendous dining experience. The food, the staff, and the atmosphere are superb. the fillet is the best that I have had anywhere and the lobster tail is incredible. Also you can't go wrong with the sesame chicken. The shrimp sauce is wonderful on the fried rice. If you are looking for the perfect place for a business dinner, date, or just to hang out with friends then Nakama is definitely the place to do all of this. They also have some great speciality drinks. Each chef that works there is just incredible. Their skills add to the entire dining experience. The price for the total dining experience is a great deal. Pros: Atmosphere, Value, Quality more

Great Meal & Entertainment 9/17/2006

My husband & I recently had dinner and had the lobster tails and kobee(sp?) beef. The meal and entertainment was excellent. We shared a table with 6 strangers, and yet, the chef still tried to encompass us all in the entertainment of the food preparation. We so enjoyed ourselves!! Next time, though, I'll take along people we know. Pros: parking and service more

Greatest Japanese food in the area 9/17/2006

I have been to Nakama several times and have always had great service. Everyone is really friendly. The food is great for the price. The atmosphere is very unique and I love the dim lighting. It makes for a really great romantic evening. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy great food. It's especially a great place to go on a date. Pros: Parking, Service, Friendliness more

Wonderful all around 9/17/2006

I have been a regular at Nakama since it opened and i love the place!! I go once a week and the food and the atmosphere is wonderful. When i take my son with me, the staff does everything to entertain him and they are so great to him. Heidi has gone out of her way time and time again to put a smile on his face. We go there for every special occasion and always have a great time. The food is outstanding!!! Keep up the good work! more

Great for meetings and small groups 9/17/2006

I have used Nakama for several small corporate dinners and have had great success with their service. The service is attentive and the menu options suit everyone. Will continue to use them for business as well as pleasure. more

Great place for a night out with the girls! 9/17/2006

My girls and I had an awesome time at Nakama this last visit, just like all the others. I'm not a big fan of sushi and that type of food, but I definately loved what I got. My friends shared with me and now I may actually like it, because I tried it. Excellent food, excellent service, can't wait to go back! Pros: Awesome service Cons: little bit loud, but thats the atmosphere! more

best filet mignon i have ever had!!! 9/17/2006

i shared a hibachi table with 5 of my friends last friday...some of us had experienced them before, while for others this had been their first time...we all had an excellent dinner and enjoyable ""show""...by far the BEST filet mignon i have EVER had!...thank you and keep up your superior service!!! Pros: serivce, food, ambience more

Best Hibachi & Sushi in Pittsburgh 9/17/2006

I've been to Nakama's dozens of times - sometimes with my boyfriend, sometimes friends, sometimes family - and every time I try something new (and I have yet to be disappointed). Whenever I make a reservation, we are seated a few minutes after arriving. The ambiance is unlike any other. I've worked in the restaurant industry for five years and I've seen both good and bad waitstaff -- and Nakama's has a wonderful waitstaff. The food has always exceeded my expectations. They have an excellent selection of wines & cocktails. But the chef makes the experience! Pros: Sushi, Ambiance, Amazing Entrees Cons: some chefs aren't quite as spectacular as others more

Love it! 9/17/2006

I have been going to Japanese tableside cooking restaurants for years. I have tried all the ones in the area as well as ones while I was traveling. Nakama is my absolute favorite. The food is terrific and the service is great. \r \r I joined the VIP club. I get tons of great discount offers on birthdays and anniversaries. \r \r This is a great restaurant for a special occasions or just a nice dinner. \r \r Our co workers go there for lunches during the week. It's easy to get in and out in a reasonable time period for week day lunches. \r \r Highly recommend!\r more

Best in the Burgh 9/17/2006

I have lived in Pittsburgh my entire life, and even though it is still relatively new, Nakama has surpassed everywhere else I have ever eaten and is most definitely my favorite. Whether I go for sushi or hibatchi, everything is always spectacular. The staff is always friendly and VERY knowledgable about everything on the menu. They have gone so far as to alter ingredients in a meal because I was allergic to what was supposed to be in it! Also, as far as the sushi is concerned, it is the best sushi I have ever eaten. I have had sushi in New York City and Los Angeles, but the sushi at Nakama is by far THE BEST. And the staff is always asking if everything is ok, and if it just so happens that you end-up not liking something, they will do anything and everything they can to make sure you end-up leaving happy and having eaten way too much. It is one of the few places I have ever been where the owners truly care about everything. Happiness, quality, safety, atmosphere, reputation....etc..... And, for the quality of food and service, it is VERY affordable. There are items on the menu even college students can afford. Point blank: I love it, and always will. You'll even find me there on my birthday. :-) Pros: Literally everything. more

Great food! Great time! 9/17/2006

This past august, I went to Nakama for my anniversary dinner with my boyfriend. The food was amazing and the chefs were outstanding. I would recommend Nakama to anyone of my friends and family. It was also a great way to meet new people. The people that were seated next to me were just enjoyable. The evening was a wonderful success. Thank you for the evening! BEWARE!-Good Reviews are for Gift Certificates 9/17/2006

Nakama is really violating the spirit of this website! Look at all the good reviews posted today. Nakama sent out an email stating they'll give gift certificates for positive reviews! I've eaten twice at Nakama and been underwhelmed both times. The service was lousy and the restrooms were in desperate need of a cleaning. Shame on Naklama for being so sneaky! Cons: Service, cleanliness, NOISY more
