Best

Love the food! The best food I've had in a long time. The service was a little slow. But I didn't mind.

Worst

I totally agree with every reviews on here that talk about the terrible service and rude awful manager. I've eaten at nakama a few times. It's either hit or miss. My time there is...

GREAT EVERYTHING!! 9/18/2006

We absolutely love Nakama. Everytime that we have family or friends into town we take them to Nakama....often for dinner, sometimes just for cocktails. Every time has proved to be a great experience that keeps us coming back! The Hibachi chefs make the dining experience so fun....and the food is always delicious! We will be back...to one of our very favorite restaurants in the city real soon! Thanks to Nakama for the great food and great fun...keep doing what you are doing!! more

Great food & atmosphere to dine & socialize 9/18/2006

Nakama is the best japanese steakhouse we've ever dined at! The food is fresh & delicious!!! The atmosphere there is fun and inviting for both social and romantic dinners. We are regulars there and have never been dissatisfied-ever! If you haven't tried it, I encourage you to! Pros: Excellent atmosphere & food! Cons: Very popular & sometimes crowded. more

Always a fun crowd 9/18/2006

A great place for dinner or even just to have drinks at the bar. Always a fun crowd. Dinner at Nakama is truly a great dining experience! \r \r more

Amazing Sushi, Food, and Atmosphere! 9/18/2006

Nakama has amazing sushi and food!! I have been there more times than I can count. If you sign up for their newsletter they send you upcoming events, deals, and coupons which make it even better! If you do have to wait to be seated the bar is a wonderful place to wait with an order of sushi. I would recommend this place any day. The service is always fast and friendly. The food is always hot and tasty! Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: Parking in southside is sometimes difficult more

best sushi! 9/18/2006

I'm a big fan of nakama. When I first moved to pittsburgh, I couldn't find anywhere to go for some decent sushi until I came across nakama. The food is awesome and the sushi chefs are always sweet. On special occations I eat at the hibatchi tables which are just as good as Benihanna's but more resonably priced. Try the hanalai roll and you'll never go anywhere else! Pros: sushi, food, atmosphere Cons: a bit on the pricey side and sometimes the wait staff isn't as attentive as they should be more

Buying Reviews 9/18/2006

Nakama should be ashamed. They are buying the good reviews. Do not listen to the raves on this site- they are not pure. Nakama sent a mass email offering $10 to anyone that posted a good review. Look at all the suckers that Namaka bought with $10 for a few simple good words dated 9/18 and 9/19. Honestly, I liked Nakama, but this was a BAD PR move! Although the sushi is good, the place is super crowded, staff rude, and its highly overpriced. If you want good sushi- try Koto Buki, its hidden in North Park- its a true Gem, more affordable, and their salad dressing is to die for!\r \r Nakama, you've lost my respect and business. Shame on your for tainting this online service with biased reviews. You DO NOT DESERVE to be noticed amoung the best in Pittsburgh because you aren't. Cons: They buy reviews. too busy, highly overpriced, bad service. more

Best sushi 9/18/2006

I love the different varieties of sushi offered, the best i've had in quite awhile. The hibachi experience is also very enjoyalbe and great for an evening out with a group of friends. The atmosphere is unique and aestetically pleasing. I would suggest Nakama to anyone looking for a good place to dine. more

Best Japanese in Pittsburgh 9/18/2006

I am being totally honest - Nakama is the best Japanese in Pittsburgh. It's one of the hottest spots on the South Side. If you're looking for great food, excellent service and a sophisticated vibe, Nakama is it. more

Nice atmosphere 9/18/2006

I enjoyed a very nice birthday lunch at Nakama. The service was very prompt, the cook was skilled and entertaining, and the food was very good. It was a nice change of pace from the usual lunch fare. I can't wait to go back with a group of friends! more

Best Scallops in town! 9/18/2006

Nakama is by far one of the best Japanese steakhouses I have ever been to! The spicy tuna rolls and the Scallops are to die for! I have never had a problem with them honoring reservations, incorrectly placing my order or having to wait for long periods of time. The service is always supurb and the chefs entertaining! I choose Nakama for all of my special occassion dinners and am never disappointed! more

Awesome food...fantastic service...what more do you want!!! 9/18/2006

I dined at Nakama with my finacee about a month ago. I had been to a few other hibachi style restaurants, but I was really impressed with Nakama! We started with the lettuce wraps, they were delicious! We both had a chicken and shrimp entree and it was just fantastic! The smokeless grill was really impressive too (didn't come home smelling like smoke!) We also thought the atmosphere was very romantic and cozy. The service was also fantastic, and we can't wait to go back again!!! Yes, parking can be a pain on the South Side, but if you are willing to walk a bit, park a street or two away and just walk over. more

Great food! 9/18/2006

We just recently went to Nakama for the first time. And we will be going back again...and often. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed our drinks and food. It was the best sushi I have had in Pgh. Amazing! The only other place I would compare it to is a restaurant in Atlanta - MF Sushi. We liked the food so much, we ordered more sushi once we finished our first platter. more

Awesome Sushi and Hibachi 9/18/2006

The sushi is always the freshest and best tasting from anywhere around. The hibachi chefs are entertaining, and the food is delicious. It's a busy place, so be sure to get a reservation, but the great atmosphere, great food, and great location make Nakama a must for anyone looking for something different to do. more

There may be a wait, but well worth it 9/18/2006

My husband and I eat at Nakama frequently, and I have never had a bad experience there. The food is all very good (especially the filet!), and the sushi is excellent. There is usually a long wait, and not always enough room to comfortably wait in the bar or sushi bar, so try to go during off hours or make reservations pretty far in advance. It is also somewhat loud, so maybe not the place for a quiet, intimate romantic dinner, but great for groups and happy hour gatherings.\r Pros: Very good food/sushi, pretty good service considering how busy they usually are, and, unlike some of the other older Japanese restaurants, you don't go home smelling like the grill--it's much less smoky w/better ventilation.\r Cons: Long wait without reservations, loud during the dinner hours more

Great Sushi, Greater Happy Hours! 9/18/2006

We love Nakama, and believe that their sushi is the best in Pittsburgh. Even better, we enjoy sitting at the bar for Happy Hour - the staff is friendly, they have a great drink menu - and you can't pass up the Happy Hour specials. The seared ahi tuna is phenomenal ... and half price during Happy Hour! You can also enjoy a great view of the happenin' Carlton scene.\r more

Mmmm...sushi! 9/18/2006

Great sushi! Order the ""boat"" of you have a lot of people, and time. The window seats are the perfect place to see and be seen, too. more

Nakama 9/18/2006

Nakama is one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city. The service is always great and the price is affordable for how excellent the food is! more

Great experience. 9/18/2006

I enjoyed watching the chef prepare my meal, along with the interaction between the chef and the customers. more

great sushi 9/18/2006

WE had a great meal at Nakama. It works out so great because there is such a variety on the menu. So I can have sushi and my boyfriend can eat what ever he likes. more

A GEM IN THE HEART OF THE SOUTH SIDE! 9/18/2006

If you are looking for a great dining experience you have to try Nakama. The atmosphere is second only to the quality of the food. The south side is fortunate to have such a quality restaurant in its center. more
