Editorial review from Citysearch 6/28/2013

Visited for the 1st time this evening. Had the calamari appetizer, and the seared scallops from the Specials Menu. My husband and I both found some solid, bone-like pieces in the calamari, and I had a few bites of something solid in the scallops as well.\r \r We've shared the calamari appetizer many times at various restaurants, and I've had scallops many times as well, and there's never been anything solid in these dishes before dining here.\r \r In addition to all this, our waitress was less than friendly and unattentive. We had to ask other staff to find her 3+ times. Doubt we'll be back. more

we sent my parents there for a birthday 4/13/2012

we sent my parents there for a birthday - first occasion was fabulous, shrimp cocktail, lobster tail -they has such a great date, spent $120 for 2 but thought it was worth the money. It was so good that they went back for the same meal - WHAT a DISASTER!! The lobster tails were so tough that they could not eat them. It was obvious that the fresh lobster had not been sold so they were cooked prior and reheated. The food was left on their plates but the waitress never asked what the problem was - obviously there was one. They paid the bill and left. We emailed the owners but never got a response. The sad thing is my parents are 90 and 94 years old and live very close - we were looking forward to many more gift cards. We celebrated their 70th anniversary and took the group of 20 to a different restaurant that lobster was great. The wait staff need to know that elderly people do not complain and Mr Pauls should not serve reheated lobster to anyone, even the elderly. Pros: null Cons: null more

Best Lunch in town 6/29/2011

Lunch time specials are FANTASTIC! Quality and quantity at a reasonable cost - unheard of in today's market! more

HORRIBLE!!!! 12/2/2010

Have been here several times..always made a reservation...rarely seated at time of reservation. Today I called to make a reservation for a week from now, (party of 4), and was told they don't take reservations unless you have a party of six. I said that was contrary to what the website says....and was told that this has ALWAYS been their policy .....I said that we have always made reservations, and was very rudely told that "this is our company policy. If you do not like it, you are free to go somewhere else". If they are this horrible on the phone, I can only imagine how horrible they are in person!!!!! I wanted to give zero stars, but not able to give zero, so chose one. more

our anniversary tradition 6/13/2010

Just for fun...when you go order something they make tableside, like the ceazer salad or bananas fosters or the dish for two. Its worth the show! Great food, fab service, easy in and out parking. A little pricey... but for a specail occasion its well worth it. For the show, the meal, the attention...its worth it. more

Mr. Paul's Chop House 8/16/2008

My favorite restaurant and first choice when we go out!\r \r The Chateau Briand for Two is the best deal on the menu. The Filet Mignons are cooked perfectly and you get so many things with it that you can hardly finish your dinner. We found out a long time ago that you shouldn't have an appetizer if you order this! I love the steaks at this restaurant - that's all I've ever had there.\r \r The atmosphere is great and there's always the nice old guy at the piano in the smoking section. Staff is ALWAYS friendly and the service is great. more

Best Restaurant on the East Side 5/4/2008

I lived 2 miles from Mr. Paul's. I used to eat lunch and/or dinner there frequently. I was fortunate enough to get to know the owner's/staff a little. The food was always great, the service outstanding and the atmosphere unbeatable. I had many romantic dinners there. more

Best Steak Ever! 3/10/2008

This was by far the best prime rib i have ever eaten. I have been coming to mr pauls now for about 5 years. Every time i go back i get the prime rib because its so great. it melts in your mouth its so good. I will probably get the prime rib each and every time i go back because i cant imagine going there and getting something else. The staff have always been really nice and friendly to us. We never had to wait if we had reservations. We also got the cherries jubilee for dessert, which they make right at your table, and that was excellent from what i could taste of it. i would recommend mr pauls to anyone that dares to have a great steak! more

Don't waste your time. 12/20/2007

Based on the reviews here I had been looking forward to checking this place out for a while. We had reservations, they took so long to seat us that another couple in our party had to go home, finally got our table about and hour and a half after our scheduled reservation. Had to cancel plans for the rest of the evening. The Ceasar was good, as for the steaks I can make a better fillet at home. Chateaubriand was ordered medium-rare, came medium-well to well done. Due to my job, I have to eat at some of the top restaurants in metro-Detroit. Now I know can see why one of our functions has never been held here, this place simply could not qualify. If you are craving a great steak, don't waste your time here. Ruth's Chris, Cameron's, Capital Grille, Rochester Chophouse, Big Rock are all better than this place. more

Great Food!! 8/21/2006

One of my favorties!! From the table side ceaser salad to the Steaks to the personal attention from the Pauls themselves!! You will love it!! more

Mediocre 7/17/2006

The service here is fine, the food is OK. I would rather eat here than in one of the machine shops on either side of it, but I wouldn't put up much of a fight. more

Mr. Pauls Chop House 6/10/2006

Mr. Paul's Chop House is the place to go for a romantic evening out, or a night out with a good friend. The atmosphere is small and intimate, the wait staff friendly and efficient, and the food is outstanding!! I had the filet, which was outstanding! They specialize in made to order table side Caesar salads and cherries jubilee. Also, the prices won't break your wallet. Yummy! PROS: Wonderful food, atmosphere, and wait staff. CONS: more

best in town 11/4/2005

a five star restaurant shockingly located in a industrial area without other resturants in area.this iswhat all staekhouse aspire to be,the best food, the best service, top of the line wines and the atmosphire is the best.if you can handle the smoke i recomend you sit in the smoking section even if you dont smoke so you can get the true feel of this place. you might get the feeling your in an old mobster fancy meeting place, its very charming!if you sit in smoking you will also enjoy the piano player who is very talented. my favorite dish here is the king crab legs ohh are they good. PROS: CONS: dont go on a holiday have seen a 3 hour wait here!! more

Wonderful Food! 10/3/2005

This restaurant has great food. Especially their filet mignon. We go there on special occasions, and not so special occasions. The service is excellent, and we also take our children sometimes. It can be a little expensive, but it's worth it. PROS: Food is great, nice atmosphere CONS: a little pricey more

The Best in Town 7/10/2005

I have enjoyed lunch or dinner at Mr. Pauls for over 20 years. The food has always been excellent, the service outstanding and the ambiance second to none. Whether you are going for a buisness lunch or romantic evening you won't be disappointed. I took my daughter there for lunch when she was 15, she said the steak was the best she ever had. She is 31 now and still stands by her statement. more

pleasant surprise! 6/25/2005

We were very happy with the atmosphere, value and charm of Mr. Paul's. Often, the options for dinner on the East side leave something to be desired... But, Mr. Paul's has a retro charm and unique features we didn't expect to find. It doesn't look exceptional from the outside, but is worth the visit. We were especially impressed by the caesar salad made table-side. Pros: service, value Cons: outside appearance more

Delicious 6/6/2005

Absolutley, positively the best food in the detroit area, been there a few times. But the service(waiters) are very rude and snobish. And I agree on the prices being alittle high, but sometimes its worth it!! Very romantic atmosphere. more

Simply the best! 3/11/2004

I've eaten at some of the country's best restaurants (Tavern on the Green, Russian Tea Room, Spago's) and by far, this little obsure restaurant in the middle of an industrial stretch is the best! Pros: Good Value, Great Food, Great Service more

Service for Mr. Pauls 8/24/2003

I am disabled and the restraunt is fairly small, the staff is very helpful, making sure my wheelchair can get in and out without incident. The food is unbelievable, service is excellent and the price is a tad expensive, but with the quality of the food I have no problem paying a little extra. This restraunt needs to help others like Capers. Show the how a real steakhouse/chophouse should operate. Pros: SERVICE, FOOD, ATMOSPHERE Cons: PARKING more
