I've been trying to lose stubborn weight for years, and I just couldn't do it on my own. I kept promising myself I would start working out but I kept procrastinating...and finally a friend told me about the Academy. I was totally intimidated at first, but I went in and met with Coach Andy. He is such great instructor and really good at transmitting knowledge and martial arts principles to beginners. It didn't matter that I was a little overweight and out of shape. The Academy is place where people connect and strive towards common goals. I'm a college professor so I know good instruction when I see it. I first started in the Kickboxing class, and then I upgraded my membership to study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu also I currently train 4 times a week, and I'm down 20 lbs I feel great. I recommend the academy to anyone who wants to change their life & join a serious group of people dedicated to the way of martial discipline. more

Best Academy for MMA, Jiu Jitsu, Thai Boxing, CSW 3/11/2011

I spent about 20 years sitting around getting out of shape. My health started to decline so I decided to look into some different gyms. I tried 24 hour gyms where I could run on a tread mill and lift weights. I tried the local community center where I could swim. They all seemed sterile and I couldn't stay motivated. My 17 year old son was invited to ""check out"" the Academy. I went along to watch and after about a week I decided to, ""give it a try."" 2 years later, I'm still energized to go to class, see my friends who are training, and learn all at the same time. It's motivated me past what I do in class. I've changed my diet and don't feel like I'm just waiting around for the heart attack to come. If you are even thinking you might want to check out Martial Arts training, whether it be Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA, Thai Boxing, or Combat Submission Wrestling. Do you self a favor and do the FREE 30 day trial! It may just change your life like it has for me!! more

Best MMA Academy in the Twin Cities 3/10/2011

My 11 year old son and me have trained at Minnesota Martial Arts Academy for just over a year now and this academy is the real deal. \r \r Unlike past TaeKwonDo/Hapkido schools I've trained at over the past 5 years where you basically buy yourself a Blackbelt, at MMAA you earn your way. But you don't do it alone. MMAA has awesome highly skilled instructors at every level for their BJJ/MuayThai/Selfdefense/MMA courses. And the bonus is the owner and UFC trainer Greg Nelson doesn't only train his MMA fighters he instructs at all levels of all the courses. \r \r As for the another review here stating they only care about your money. That comment is BS. I started out as a 40 something out of shape with arthritis in my hip so I'm no where near an ideal UFC prospect *LOL* and I've never once felt out of place or denied assistance or instruction. In fact times where my hip has caused problems with any given technique the instructors have always been excellent in offering me similar alternative techniques. \r \r Minnesota Martial Arts Academy is serioiusly the best place to train modern martial arts in the Twin Cities hands down... more
