Fraudulent company. 1/5/2011

Fraudulent company. I had them repair a leak in the kitchen drain and they charged me $760 for 40 Minuets of work. Also, they never pulled the permit they charged me for! When I called them about this they were very disrespectful and didn't do anything about it. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! more

Grossly inflated pricing 12/25/2010

Dispatcher will lie to you claiming she doesn't know the price to fix a basic valve, even though she has a price guide. They charge $69 to come look, then want $430 for a 15 minute repair of a bad shut-off valve. Have a bad valve? Order a Floodmaster Speedy valve for $13, repair in 5 minutes, save $417. more

Reliable Service 12/14/2010

I had a leaky kitchen faucet. Called St Paul Plumbing looking for a plumber to come out. Was shocked and happy that they could come out the same day. Most people I called where 2 days out. Gene fixed the problem quickly and then showed me some ideas on some other issues I had in the house.I will call St Paul Plumbing again without a doubt. more

Very good online appointment request... 12/7/2010

Very good! Your online appointment request worked like a charm! Requested an appoint online at 9 PM, you called at 8:04 AM the next morning, said he would show up between 9 - 1, and he called before arriving at 12. Didn't try to sell me unnecessary stuff, very friendly guy. In and out quickly and hopefully solved the problem! more

Stay away! 11/11/2010

I called St. Paul Plumbing and Heating to fix the leaky taps in my shower. My family has used them in the past and was impressed with thier service, and they seemed to be reasonable in price. With this past experience I didn't hesitate to call them, thinking it would be an easy, quick, relatively inexpensive fix. I wish I would have hesitated a little more. The tech arrived on time, and was very nice, friendly and professional looking. That is where the nice things I have to say about this company end. He took one look at the taps in my shower, turned them on to notice how they were leaking, and told me that it would be very difficult to fix such old valves. (they are from the 60's) and that half the time when you try to fix them, you break them. He ended up writing me a quote for the eye-popping amount of $415 to REPAIR the old taps, OR $1200 to put in a new single handle shower faucet, which didn't included repairing the tile. He seemed to already know the answer to what I was going to pick, and wasn't surprised when I declined the service, and happily took my $68 check. But, the story doesn't end there. I work at a large home improvement store, and I told one of the plumbing experts we have my story. He explained to me that this whole type of plumbing operation (so called "flat rate" plumbers) is essentially a giant scam. He said he has talked to flat rate plumbers who have done no actual plumbing working in years, they simply drive around, throw out ridiculous quotes, collect thier service call fee, and move on. THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL! My connection at work ended up offering to come over and take a look at it for me, he ended up fixing it PERFECTLY with only a screw driver, 2 wrenches, and about 6 ft of teflon tape to fix the packing in the stems. I paid him less than the service call to SPPHC cost, and the work was done in the time it took SPPHC to write up the estimate. Even if I were to have gone with a plumber who was actually "in business", at the average rate of $100 or so an hour, this repair should have cost less than 1/4 what SPPHC quoted me. These guys are in business simply to drive around and take call after call making $70 a call. I dont know what happened, since they used to do good work. This is a travesty. To quote what comes out to be over $800 an hour to do a simple repair requiring no special tools and no parts! SHAME ON THEM. I dont know if all the positive reviews of them are ligit, but if you look at the other reviews those people write, they never seem to have anything bad to say about any company, sounds a little fishy to me! DO NOT hire these guys unless you have already gotten other estimates and they are for some reason cheaper... more

Didn't have to wait all afternoon! 10/14/2010

I was extremely pleased that I was able to schedule a next day appointment, and that the office was able to call me when the technician was 30 minutes out so that I didn't have to spend the entire afternoon at home waiting for him. The technician was knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. Thank you.-kdegrande more

More than happy to recommend you 9/17/2010

I would like to take the opportunity to let you know how professional and courteous Mark was in our home. Mark was extremely professional the first time he was here (last Wednesday) and explained everything he was doing. It is hard these days to trust people in your home, and at no time did I feel uncomfortable with Mark in our home including the fact we have a 2 1/2 yr old in the house. Mark was polite to the utmost, and respected every aspect of our home. Mark came at 7:00am this morning (September 15, 2010) to bring and install a part that was over-looked. He took time out of his day to find where to get the part and ordered it. Not only that, but he ordered a few "back-ups" just in case. Mark realized that I had just had hand surgery, so doing dishes was quite a bit of a burden. For someone to wake up earlier, start their day earlier and arrive at someones home before their day even starts is remarkable. Mark should be commended however appropriate for the excellent customer service he performed in our home. Thank you to the company for having Mark aboard. He is truly an asset to your company, and if all service calls were this pleasing then there would not be so many unsatisfied customers in all realms of service(obviously not just plumbing and heating). I would be more than happy to recommend your company to people I know. I will be honest and tell them to "ask" for Mark! more

I will recommend 9/15/2010

Buyer be especially aware 9/14/2010

I would not recommend this company and I should have listened to other reviewers who also had bad experiences with Saint Paul Plumbing and Heating. I needed a new water heater and called for a bid. The technician presented a bid that was substantially higher than what another plumber had given me. When I told him the bid was too high, he said there was another option: I could buy a power vented unit, which would be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to one-third of the cost (about $800 in my case) and a rebate from Xcel. So I bit. But it was me who ended up wounded because the unit he installed is not eligible for the tax credit or the $40 to $60 rebate. So I called to complain. In fact, I called three times before connecting with David, the “customer service” rep. He tried to buy me off by offering me the $60 rebate from Xcel Energy, but said he could not do anything about the tax credit and that his technican did not tell me the unit was eligible. He basically called me a liar. This company made $2,400 off me by misrepresenting the unit it installed. (I would have gone with the other plumber had I not been told I’d get an $800 tax credit.) The unit Saint Paul Plumbing and Heating installed had the Energy Star sticker, which the technician even pointed out to me, as he reiterated that the unit would be eligible for the tax credit. Now, I'm taking the company to small claims court and will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I highly recommend choosing another “good guy” plumber and let these bamboozlers go under. more
