Mimi's Steak House Of Japan

Mimi's used to be a good restaurant years ago but the restaurant has severely went down-hill just like the ""lady"" it was named after. The restaurant is very run-down and dirty-looking. There was old rice all over the floor and on my chair when I went to sit down. The staff is horribly Rude & Inappropriate. The chefs used to take their time and interact with the customers while cooking but now they take forever to get out to your table and they rush through the show even when the restaurant is basically empty. Being in a rush on a busy Fri or Sat night when there are many more tables waiting to be cooked is understandable but early on a week night when there is only one other Hibachi table in the restaurant, it is a little lazy and ridiculous! My kids had to beg the chef to do an onion volcano and only after much pleading on their part, did the chef call the server over to the table and ask her to go grab him a volcano from the back while rolling his eyes. The chef messed up our table's order and then tried to argue with two of the people and tell them that they were wrong and he had gotten the order correct. In an attempt to be funny I guess, he kept making sexually explicit comments to the table, most of which were directed to my 16 year old daughter. He asked her to meet him outside & when she opened her mouth to catch a piece of shrimp, He said ""Oh Hell yeah, I like it like that"". I waited for 15 minutes for a glass of wine and finally walked up to the bar myself, where I found my server and a girl that must have been the bartender sitting down talking to each other and texting on their phones. When I asked about my wine and if the server could come refill the table's drinks (which had been empty for sometime), they looked at each other and laughed, then the bartender went and jerked a ticket from the printer and slammed in down on the bar before she walked over to pour the wine. After pouring it, she sloshed it at me and said ""Here"", no apology or Thank you or anything. After the chef finished cooking, one of the people at the table still didn't have the right food that they had ordered and no one's drink had been refilled. We had to get up and grab our own To-Go Boxes and flag another server down to go find ours so we could pay and get outta there. When she finally brought the checks, she had mixed up who was supposed to be paying for what. We had 30 bucks worth of sushi on our ticket that had not been ordered by anyone at the table.The waitress went to get the owner to sort out the checks and minutes later, Mimi came over partially stumbling on the way with half a glass of wine still in her hand. We explained the situation to her as she glared at us like we were just trying to get something for free. She slurred her way through a half apology and turned to walk away with our server. When they disappeared around the corner, the whole dining room could hear as Mimi screamed obscenities at the girl and repeatedly told her how stupid and useless she was. Although we didn't receive the best service, we still left a very generous tip because anyone that has to work with a boss like that should be allowed an off night. Needless to say, we wont ever think of dining at any of the Mimi's Steakhouses again! more

I worked there, Mimi was the most horrible person I have seen. cursing us out around with word""fukcing"" is not even news, gave us a speech said"" I gave u guys a job so your kids don't starve, you should appreciate this, if my restaurant close down tomorrow ,I will be fine, and everyone of you will lose the job, none of u can get hired by any restaurant out there, you should be grateful, I don't see any of you are being grateful.... She taught me the word"" niggger"" when I first got no tip from one of my black customer. She yelled us like dogs ""get the fukcing up to clean the floor"" she made a lot of waitress cried by calling them useless, stupid, always with the ""f""word too. I was a server, I worked 85 hours in 10 days, and overall I made 340 dollars, why? First, we split half of our tips with chefs ?5% with buster, so we get 45% of our tips overall. And not everyone tipped. She never told me anything about the salary on my interview, just said come work 2weeks first, maybe I don't like you or you don't like the job, so when I went ask about it after a week, she said: "" you want get paid ,bring me your paperworks( I just moved here, my employee authorization is processing, but there is no way I couldn't get it,it's just takes 3 months to get and I told her that at the beginning) "" how many days have you worked, and you started to ask about money? "" I asked: so you are saying I don't get nothing besides my tips? She said yes. I quit 2days later, I was making 3 dollars per hour since we get 45% of our tips, and we have to stand a person doesn't know how to respect her employees, I had to quit. So when I quit,I said I was coming down to get my last paycheck, she said bring your paperworks. When I brought my social security card, my receipt of employee authorization application, she was surprised , obliviously she thought I didn't have anything, she even thought I wasn't legally married. She paid me 2.13 dollars per hour later, but it was only 40 hours on my check, I worked 85 hours in 10 day, and 2 of them was training,2 of them I was working as cocktail, I made no tips. I asked her why is it only 40 hours ,she said that's how many the computer said, and she cut my questioning said"" you were worthless to me ok?"" then just walked away... If the restaurant won't change owner, I swear I will never eat there again, or recommend anyone to go, it is real hell! more

They reduced me to Begging for beer after ignoring me and my party for 20min at the table forcing me to retrive my groups drink order from the bar. Then 30 minutes later no soup, no salad and no chef. Never again. more

man. this place is off the chain. i been here countless times and this place aint never let me down. one of, if not the best, place to get sushi in this town. also one of the cheapest sushi in town. whoever said this place was expensive is probably used to getting their sushi at harris teeter. anyway they got a good selection of sushi, great sushi chef, hot sushi waitress (most of the time), and they also do custom sushi so i like to throw everything into my sushi. if you go definitely try the kacy's roll and the megan's roll. crazy good. their hibachi is also less expensive than the other hibachi places. not to mention the hibachi is way better. chefs actually KNOW what they're doing. they're funny, they put on a great show. my kids love it. servers are nice and attentive and quick. mimi is real nice too AND she gives out free sake!! on occasion. but i've always been lucky enough to show up on those occasions. the bar is cool too. cheap beer. cheaper draft beer. knowledgable good looking bartender. if you get a cocktail drink then your glass is significantly bigger than just about every other restaurant. just in case nobody's noticed. one of the servers recommended me a southern comfort and pineapple and its phenomenal so yall need to check that out. overall this is a great place to eat, celebrate birthdays, just a great place period. other than having to wait an extra twenty minutes to get sat but is all worth it in the end. the only two things i have to complain about is seeing people dump thousands of pounds of that white sauce/shrimp sauce on all of their food. makes me vomit. and they dont have pabst. :-/ also luckbox is awesome and funny. more

I have ate lunch in the dining room at Mimi's before with a large group of my co-workers and we all enjoyed our food, however, today my take out order experience was less than favorable. I picked up 2 lunches from Mimi's for my co-worker and myself, I then drove back to work and after enjoying my soup I opened my lunch and discovered a long black hair intertwined in the chicken. I called Mimi's right away and explained the issue. I was told to bring the meal back and they would prepare a new one. The manager said it was probably her hair and apologized. I then drove back to Mimi's from work and was given a replacement lunch for the one I returned. Again she apologized saying it was probably her hair because she had been in the back working with the boys. She handed me the meal and that was it. I feel that she should have offered some type of refund. I had to leave work and drive back to pick up a hair free meal. I appreciate her saying sorry but after all the driving and losing my appetite I expected a little more customer service. I will not be returning and I will pass on this experience to anyone who asks and to all my co-workers. more

Why are people so dumb and self-centered? Of course when they're busy they're going to want you to leave after you've finished, they have to turn the table so they can seat your angry mob friends at the front door that are whining about that wait. And give your server a break. You have one server, they have about ten of you to a table, its not as easy as you may think and your brain can get scattered. more

Beef tataki amazing, best yellow tail,scallion roll I have had in greenville. Cucumber roll is awesome, mussels are dank, beer is cheap. I think the people that hate Fcked the page with complaints and whining and bickering. Ive been there like 5 times. I think alot of it was downright lies. The restaurant is perfectly clean. The service is fine they are just busy and if you talk like a field mouse and don't speak up and tell the staff what you need or whats wrong. yea you gonna sit there unhappy and then come home and right a awful review filled with lies and slander. My husband and I have been regulars here since they opened the doors. Yes, you may have to wait. No, you don't sit at your table and socialize after you've finished your meail. The cucumber rolls and soy salad dressing are awesome. Mimi's never been rude to us and I've never seen her be rude to anyone. Pros: Cucumber Roll, Soy dressing Cons: Can have a long wait time more

We waited an actual hour before someone came and took our drink order. Then when the waitress finally came, she didn't even have a pen. She had to run off and find one. Then it took another 15 to 20 minutes for the chef to come and cook the food. The owner, Mimi, actually came to the table next to us and picked up someone's plate while they were still from eating from it. He had to holler at her for her to bring it back because she was walking off. She was very rude and not personable at all. A couple at the table with us had ordered an alcoholic drink and they were almost finished eating by the time they got it. The place was completely gross. The floor was dirty all over and then one of the waitresses was vaccuuming around a table where people were eating. If you were going to do that, why not get the whole place. After the vaccuuming, the floor was still dirty. The food tasted was nasty and the place had a nasty smell, especially for a restaurant. By the time we got home, my boyfriend did not feel good at all. It was just a really bad experience and we will never go back to Mimi's again. The only reason we went there in the first place is because we didn't want to wait at Miyabi's but by the time we left Mimi's, we really wished we had. I don't care if another restaurant says the wait is 2 hours, I'd whether go home and make me a bologna sandwich (which I didn't even like) than to go back to Mimi's. I eat sushi about three times a week, so I can tell you this was the worst I have ever had. Not very fresh but very overpriced, not to mention it took forever to get it. I knew more about the menu then our server. i tried to customize a roll that would have cost me $6 dollars at Cafe de Miyako(the best restaraunt in Greenville, with the absolute best sushi) cost me $11 here.....It better come with a carath of Saki for that price. Bottomline...go to Miyako off Wade Hampton behind K-Mart, there is nothing better, I can get better food at Ingles then Mimi's...BOOOOO!! Went three times because we wanted to give the restaurant a chance and didn't want to stop going over one problem. Realized soon that there were several problems: unkempt appearance of busboys and chefs (clothing stained and wrinkled), owner Mimi moody, and the final straw was that the chef pulled out a male doll container (that was a lemon or water sprayer) and sprayed that on the food. We had small children and mentioned the inappropriateness to Mimi, the owner, but she laughed and said that it was part of the show. The food was OK, but can get the same or better Japanese hibachi style at any of the other ones in town. Pros: Parking was easy. About half way through the meal I noticed that a piece of my rice had legs...turned out it was not rice! I quietly notified the owner and she reluctantly took my entree off the bill. My two dining companions who were eating the same entrees were expected to pay for their food even though they had both seen the insect. She finally agreed to comp the entire bill, which was only appropriate since none of us ate anyway. One of my co-workers was dining in the restaurant as we left and she told me that after we left, the owner continued to complain loudly about us. She also indicated that she was going to boycott the company I work for. Bottom line? Unprofessional, rude and not customer oriented at all! Save your money and catch your own insects for dinner! I love Jap. food so I go to Mimi alot. I have never left unhappy! Yes of course at 8oclock on saturday night you don't have some1 there every second of the night, but it is still great service! The staff there is funny and nice, and the food is great! Its a great place to go on a date or with a big group, either way you are gonna have a great time while eating some great food! I was there with a party of six friends last night (1-21-06). The service was good (actually the appearance of the wait staff and bus boy was rather wrinkled and stained) and the steakhouse food was good, not great. The sushi was excellent. The problem was after our check came we paid and sat and talked about 15 minutes, BIG mistake on a crowded Saturday night. The owner, (I guess it's Mimi she's the lady who has been there since day one, and I know because I've been a regular since day one.) was getting perturbed as she came by to give us the glad you came but please hurry and leave look. (Unfortunately it went over our heads, I wish she would have just asked us to move then.). more

This place is the GREATEST. The food is always great but the best part is the show that you get. It doesn't matter what chief that you get they are all wonderful. We have been to many other places like this, but not any more. It is hard to believe that the owner will seat you, clean tables or anything else that may need doing. Oh did I forget to tell you, she remembers her customers by their names. This place is unbelievible !!!!!!!!!!!!!! more
