Mike's Electric

BAD COMMUNICATION = BAD SERVICE\r \r I purchased a house and as part of the purchase agreement I asked for an electrical problem to be fixed. The garage was on the same circuit as the main living area and when something was plugged into the garage the circuit would trip. The seller contracted Mike's Electric to do the work. Mike's came to the house and did some work and said the problem was resolved. I moved into the house and plugged something into the garage. The circuit did not immediately trip, however a couple days later the kids turned on the lights on the main floor while something was plugged into the garage and the circuit tripped knocking out power to the main level of our house. \r \r I called Mike's Electric and they were very nice and indicated that the wording on the original repair request said that the circuit in garage should be fixed to prevent the circuit from being tripped. The person on the phone said that he thought them coming back to fix it correctly should be free of charge to us since it was not fixed correctly the first time. I scheduled the appointment and had someone from Mike's come out. \r \r The gentleman that came to our house and did the repairs was very nice and appears to have done a good job. He leaves without ever mentioning that the work would not be covered by the original request. We were happy and thought everything was fine for about a week and a half.\r \r Then we receive the bill for $241 with a comment that says ""Note: Due to similar nature of this call to the previous one we are not charging travel time on this invoice"". I called the company to discuss why we received a bill when it was indicated before that we would not be getting one and no one mentioned that the work was not being covered by the previous work order. The person on the phone said we were responsible, because ""they fixed what they thought the problem was the first time"". This was the exact opposite of what the person on the phone said the first time that I called. He was not willing to discuss the fact that they did not fix it right to begin with and said we were responsible. His attitude was not friendly like the other people I talked to and he was not willing to consider that they did not do a good job the first time.\r \r I personally will never use this company again and I suggest that no one else does. They did not fix things right the first time. They contradict each other on what will be covered. They do not communicate how much something will cost or whether you will be billed at all. Never once was I given a quote on the cost of the repairs. Had I known that they were not going to fix their mistake without charging us I would have chose a different electrician to fix it right and actually tell me how much it would be before performing the work.\r \r Update 9/18/13: After much back and forth and a report to the BBB we have come to a satisfactory agreement with Mike's Electric. \r more

Mike's electricians are awesome! Recommend them!\r Our house had partially lost power and PGE checked but not found problem on them. Two engineers in the house (my husband and I) did lots of trouble-shooting and experiments, but nothing worked. My co-worker recommended Mike's to me then. I called around 9am, the electricians Tom and another guy (sorry that I forgot the name) showed up around 11:15. Very quick response! Tom is so experienced, that it only took him 20 minutes and checked 2 areas, problem was found and fixed! It turned out to be a problem in PGE's area. Not only that, when ready to write a check, I was told Mike's will send me bill for basic service charge later; so I can make sure the problem is fixed before I pay them. if the problem is not fixed, they will come back to work on it again! What a great service! I can't expect a betterne! Tom and his assistant both are very nice and professional! Thank you, guys! more

While the actual electrician did a good job, Mike's Electric came in way over budget from what we were quoted. There was a general lack of communication about the rising costs and what services were covered under the different invoices. We would have liked to have been consulted when the costs exceeded what was quoted to us by Mike's. Also, Mike's was very dismissive when addressing our cost concerns and demanded payment before things were resolved. All-in-all, they are overpriced (ending up being 250% more than the rest of the contractors used on the job) and need to be heavily managed to stay within a budget. I would not use them again. more

Here is what they did: Installed an electric heater in bedroom, and removed microwave outlet installed improperly. They sent in 2 guys, spent 2.25 hours. The labor charge is at $98/hour and the apprentice at $55/hour. So just the labor charge is $344.25. more

Darrell Michels was personable and professional! We expected a bit of a mess that we would have to clean up ourselves, but were pleasantly surprised. We love our old craftsman home, but it's a dark one, with the same inadequate lighting since my parents moved here in 1956. There were some changes over the years, but mostly in the early 60's; downgrades might be the accurate word. We checked Angie's List and called Mike's; what a great choice! Aaron and Lal conducted a full house inspection (no mean feat) and were both a delight. Professional, courteous, and pleasant, they were great representatives. (And what Lal had to say about the caring and respectful way employees are treated at Mike's counts really heavily for us.) Then gremlins attacked the kitchen system; Darryl worked hard to send us someone on very short notice, and Tom and Lal came out. Tom found that the problem was not a dangerous one, explained it to us simply and understandably. Another friendly, professional, satisfying experience. Aaron came back the next week to do the work we wanted. He found the reason for the kitchen gremlins, installed the kitchen lighting system, then put the hall lighting system in, which required some unexpected steps and a lot of work. Not only did he do a wonderfully professional job, it was so neatly done - no muss, no fuss, no cleanup necessary on our part. It has been a totally positive experience starting with the first phone call. We'll use them for every electrical job we have, and recommend them to everyone we know. I would definitely recommend Mike's Electric. In fact, I already have! They were phenomenal. From day one, the day I got the bid, the guy came and gave me an estimate, and he was so helpful. He made all kinds of suggestions. There were things I wanted to do, and they could have done them, but he told me it would be expensive, and so he gave me some other options. I knew from day one that they were honest and not out to take you in any way, shape, or form. All the way down to the end, Mike's was honest, on time, and polite. They came into the house to do the work, and they were extra clean. They did extra things for me as well, like removing a fan and cleaning the fan blades, which I thought I would have to do myself. They went above and beyond, all the way through. They're not what you normally expect from a contractor. They were wonderful! more

I own a 100 year old Victorian commercial building. We were having problems with fuses blowing. What I got from Mike's was a low cost ($154)solution with additional recommendations which would solve the problem. The same A.M. I received 2 other bids one for $1500 or more with no promise this would solve the problem. The other bid was $8,000-$10,000. Mike's actually looked at the electrical diagram,explained the problem which I could fix. The $154 was for some wiring that needed to be brought up to code. What more can you ask! more

I can't even tell you how happy I was working with the people at Mike's Electric. They went out of there way to take care of my electrical problems. Sending someone out late on a Friday night was indicative of how much they actually care about the people they work for. The electrician was knowledgeable, friendly and took care of business!
