Not Authentic at all! 9/18/2009

I visited La Cai, because I love Pho and I heard it was pretty good. I sure was surprised to find that it was fake broth. It is not the bone broth that authentic pho is made from, the soup was weak and I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be instant mix, if it isn't then it's just terrible ingredients, I don't know what's worse. Also it didn't have the abundant meat and veggies that are given to you at other Pho restaurants, so for what your paying for it's not worth it. The spring rolls were also a disappointment, It's so hard to mess fresh spring rolls up, but they did it. I don't think anything in this place is authentic, and being asian myself I can tell. If you're not familiar with authentic asian cuisine, and you think panda express is good chinese, then you'd be pretty happy here. Anyone else that knows their food, this is a sure let down. Pros: Good service. Cons: Pho is terrible. more

This is the best Asian cuisine in SLC. 3/12/2009

I cant think of one thing I have ever tried there that I didnt like! If you like shrimp your in the right spot, they make the best. I love their soups and egg rolls too! Very clean nice place, not fancy but still a great place for a date. I have always thought their servers were great, they are around often enough that you are always taken care of yet they dont interrupt your meal/conversation too much. Pros: Clean, nice ambience, friendly unobtrusive service, GREAT FOOD Cons: I over-eat every time! more

Great Food Great Service 3/10/2009

I've been wanting to try Vietnamese food for a long time and I finally did. Because of La-Cai Noodle I love it!! The Beef Noodle soup was delish and the egg rolls are so good. Always order egg rolls! I've gone back 3 times already and I always get something new. Never a disappointment. \r \r I order to go and the wait is always less than 10 minutes. I love it!! Pros: Friendly staff more

HUGE recommendation! 1/10/2009

This is my go-to restaurant in SLC, incredible food, quick service, very reasonable prices. My friends have long since given up trying to get my to go elsewhere when we're in town. Everything I've had is good, but for the PERFECT meal, get the fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce, and the #33 or #34. MMMMMM! Pros: quaint, excellent prices, fantastic food, quick service and drink refilling Cons: occasionally really busy at night, but not extreme more

Great place to get your noodle fix 10/28/2008

I went there for the first time last week and came away completely impressed. Nice place, very reasonable prices and outstanding food. I am not an expert, so I don't know if it is authentic or not, but my meal was so good that I don't care to find out. I had the bbq pork and egg roll lunch combo and it was great. The hot and sour soup is fantastic. I also sampled some chicken lo mein and it was better than anything I've had in SLC. Everything tasted fresh and wasn't greasy at all. I'll be back again and again. Pros: Great food, quick service Cons: Small parking lot more

Not so great pho 7/25/2008

This place use to serve the best pho but after they remodeled, I am not sure what happened. The broth is not the same, they don't give you all the fixings they use to, and the prices went up, want great pho? go to Pho Saigon. It's the best. Pros: Nice and clean, remodeled about 2 years ago Cons: bad service, the main dish (Pho) is a flop more

Best Vietname/Chinese Restaurant in SLC 7/11/2008

Im a very picky eater and away from home I was craving for something very asian. I fell in love with their egg rolls, a must when I go with Thai iced tea the perfect blend. Food are very tasty and hot when served. Price are reasonable with the big portion of meal that came with a good service. I guess they have remodel the place, very clean and nice environment. I was spoiled by this restaurant and I wont even try other. I hope all will enjoy the food as much as I do. Pros: Best Vietnamese/Chinese food Cons: Limited parking more

Great food. Great price. 6/23/2008

Not much of a wait every time we go. SErvice is good. Food is great. The potstickers are terrific - the dough is not too thick and they seem fairly fresh. I almost always go for the Salt Baked Shrimp - like the rest of these reviewers - so good. Some of the ""Chinese menu"" options aren't amazing. I'm sure I ordered a chicken lo mein or something once that was barely average - not much flavor and pretty greasy, but I guess that's sort of standard for that dish.... Pros: Great food more

This is one of my favorite restaurants! The food there is great, I can't recommend it more. It has a good variety of Vietnamese dishes as well as Chinese dishes so there is something for everyone. Best Value/Vietnamese Food 12/1/2007

I have a lot of Vietnamese friends and this is where they go to eat out. Very wonderful food, yeah its a hole in the wall. But some of the best food finds are in places like these. If you like Asian food, try this place you like enjoy it very much. Pros: Great food, prices Cons: Not the prettiest place more

Such wonderful service, and fabulous food! 11/12/2007

When I worked for Salt Lake County, I ate here at least once a week. The seafood soup, the spring roll, and all the fabulous tofu and shrimp dishes I had were delicious, and prepared with such a wonderful light complexity of flavors. I never had a bad meal here, and the wait and cook staff were so incredible! Amazingly nice, so polite, price was fabulous, man, I miss this place! MMMmmmmm! Pros: Tossup between food and service Cons: looks like not much, but who cares? More to those in the know! more

Best food in SLC 8/19/2007

I wasn't originally a Vietnamese food fan, until I ate here. We've been going to Mi La Cai since it opened over a dozen years ago-back when it was a hollowed out Taco Bell with no bathroom and a minimum credit card purchase of $15.00.\r The food is incredible-make sure to try both the egg rolls and the spring rolls. My hands down favorite dish is the Spicy Lemongrass Chili Chicken, followed closely by the salted baked shrimp. Make sure to order their lemon ice tea as well.\r The service has always been perfect and I think the ambiance is wonderful. I am so addicted that when I lived 4,000 miles away, I made visitors bring Mi La Cai on ice so I could have their food. Luckily, I'm back within range. I know that others feel the same way as I waited for take out the other night and spoke to a man who braved rush hour traffic from Draper because his wife is pregnant and said she'd only eat Mi La Cai. Pros: Best food for great price Cons: Only that it is next to an Autozone more

Good Restaurant, Best Pan Fried Noodles I have tried in a long time 3/21/2007

This restaurant may not look nice from the outside, but once inside you'll be amazed, excellent service, excellent food, served hot, with flavour that you remember, not expensive, good service.\r \r The best Pan fried Noodles I have tried in a long time.\r more

I come here so much the waiters remember my name :) 12/14/2006

This is the best Viet food in Salt Lake, barnone. So good I come all the time. The atmosphere is very cozy and friendly. Their Pho is pretty good because they don't put all this stuff that's not supposed to be in Pho in there. You should come, take your friends, family, loved ones... Pros: they have some of the best noodles, oh and they have beer now... Viet beer to if anyone wants to try Cons: not enough stuff on the menu!!! more

Best Vietnameses Restaurant in Salt Lake 11/4/2006

I have to say, I love this restaurant, I loved their egg rolls, thai tea and so on. Who ever haven't tried it, should try it soon, because you'll miss the best part of enjoying what's a real good food is. Pros: I love chicken on stick but they don't have it anymore, they should put it back on the menu Cons: need more lights at night in the restaurant more

I love this place 12/30/2004

This is my favorite place for Vietnamese. They have extensively remodeled. Order their egg rolls! Try their spring rolls. I love their Lemon Grass chili chicken. My husband's favorite is the salted baked shrimp. They also have good soups. Also, try their lemon ice tea. Pros: Yummy, Best Vietnamese in SL, Be adventurous more

Once a Mexican take-out restaurant, La-Cai looks like an unlikely place for a noodle house. The exterior is a bit shabby, but the dining room is clean and service is friendly....
