Mercy Church

There are many evangelical churches in San Luis Obispo. Mercy Church is the only church that publicly has a reputation of emotional and spiritual abuse from those that have attended the church and since left. This begins with the Pastor's on down through their ""12"" leaders that are assigned to GATHER 12 leaders of their own & multiply. They set goals that if not met people are kicked out of groups, emotionally pushed, & even made to feel as if they aren't really a Christian. Sadly this is true and known throughout the community. Having a recent exodus a year and half ago of about 100 people including adults, children, & college students, they have been on a public relations campaign to restore a reputable image. The Pastors of this community do not endorse this church and have had their own experience with former members coming to attend their services and receiving the healing they need. Parents of college aged students have seen their own children blindly becoming brainwashed into believing they must live in SLO after they graduate because they're part of the ""team"", they should marry within the church & definitely someone that is at their ""level"". Yes, it has cult written all over it. The reviews on here were set up by current members as part of the ""public relations"" campaign to counter the truth about what's been happening at Mercy. Seriously who harasses churches online? And you say this church is 'not biblical'...how biblical is trash talking? Please can you post a scripture that says it's okay to accuse like this? I though only the accuser accused? Anyway, just check this church out yourself - it's so so great! I'm sure that's why the reviews have people saying it's fantastic and people persecuting it. I searched The Dream Center on Google and it popped up with the predictive typing ""The Dream Center Cult"" - then I realized any church doing anything great for Jesus will be persecuted. THAT'S Biblical. more

I have attended this church for 7+ years and know all the people very well. It so so Holy Spirit filled, fun, and real. I totally love this church. My family has gotten saved here and I want to raise my future family here. more

This church is my home. I know it and love it. I have been walking with Jesus for 17 years; the last 8 I have been at Mercy Church. I would recommend it to anyone. :) more

I'm so glad I found Mercy Church. I've been attending for over 5 years and never experienced such a passionate loving church. I've been led into an incredible relationship with Jesus and now have a relationship I never imagined possible. The leadership at Mercy are committed to helping you become all you can be in Jesus and truly are excellent examples of what it means to live out Christianity as Jesus did. Both Sunday services and the small groups (cell groups) have been great. They made it really easy for me to get plugged in and become involved. I highly recommend this church!:) more

As a former member of this church there are many things you should know! Firstly, go to yelp and read those reviews (make sure you read the filtered ones). The Church has a longstanding reputation of having abused, hurt, controlled, manipulated, and sucked the pockets of most members finances completely dry. The Pastor uses a promotion and demotion system based on your performance of getting ""disciples""; as well as now employing the church to write positive reviews to cover the truth and all the experiences that are now being made public. I have friends that wanted to commit suicide, gave their entire trust fund meant for graduate school, and are in counseling to recover from this experience at Mercy Church. People are told to not ""speak"" with those that leave the church because it will put a ""spirit of distrust"" in them. People are shunned when they leave Mercy. As this church targets mostly young people, several parents do what they can to get their kids out once visiting the church. THIS IS NOT A CHRISTIAN CHURCH! Don't drink the koolaid. more

I am so proud to be a member of this incredible church! I'm so grateful for the leadership at Mercy, they have taught me how to have a real relationship with the Lord, and have been there through every hard (a good:)) time in my life. The best 5 years of my life so far! more
