The Vets and staff at McPhail Animal Hospital are the very best. You would have to go far and wide to find better doctors and staff to care for your loving pets!

TOP NOTCH 5/21/2014

I was given a recommendation to bring my new puppy here and I am so glad I did. I have been to 2 other vets before here and I am really happy with Dr.'s McPhail and Kennon. We have been going to McPhails Animal Hospital for a little over a year now and have been so pleased with our treatment there. Both my aging cat and new puppy have been well taken care of. We have boarded and used the "spa" grooming services and they are fantastic. Everyone there is always so nice. Dr McPhail reminds me of an old time vet - the kind that would come to your house or farm to take care of your animals. Just don't understand the negative reviews - this is a top notch vet with a friendly staff!! I won't go anywhere else. more

Great Vets 12/5/2013

Dr. McPhail and Dr. Kennon are outstanding vets. We have been taking our furry companions to them for ages. They have always treated the animal with patience and affection. I will not go anywhere else. more

God Bless the staff at McPhail Animal Hospital 12/21/2012

I want to thank the staff for taking such great care of our Chihuahua! We brought Pookie in on Sat. bc his back legs were paralyzed (slipped disc)! This totally broke my heart! Surgery would cost several thousand dollars & I was honest with the doc (my first visit here) & I let him know upfront I did not have the money. He was willing to try something else but nothing was guaranteed. My 7 year old, Carlye & I left the office in tears praying for a miracle! Later, I found Carlye on her knees in front of his crate praying! Monday, I went to visit & he was starting to improve. Tuesdays visit, he was walking (with help) but very wobbly. Wednesday I called to check on him &he was trying to run! Before this happened he was a very hyper 2 y/o, and I was very excited about his progress. I couldn't wait to bring him home. Today I went to pick him up & I was very worried about how I was going to pay Dr. McPhail. I prayed and prayed about this! I knew that I was honest about the finances availabl more

Compassion in a difficult time. 7/6/2011

Yesterday had Dr. Kennon at McPhail Animal Hospital euthanize our beloved old dog. We were treated with sympathy and compassion. Both vets were in the room, one administering the drug and Dr. McPhail caressing and comforting our dog. The vet assistant was also very understanding in our loss. We were grateful for the kind words and care we were given by the staff during this difficult time. more

Don't bother 1/21/2011

If it is anything then standard wellness checkup I would go elsewhere. He is just lazy. He would rather put a pet to sleep than deal with it. He recommend putting my cat down for urinating in the house even after I asked about pitting her on antianxiety meds and he said they would not. I went for a second openion and she is doing well one her meds and has had no problems in the last 2 years. He recommend putting my friends dog down for what turned out to be tick paralisis, it only took 2 days of antibiotics and stiroids to get her up again and about 2 weeks to be completely back to normal. He just didn't want to deal with hospitalizing her. more

The Good, The Bad, & The Average. 3/12/2010

Mcphail's isn't the worst vet around but he's not the best either. I was recommended to go there by my dad b/c that's where he took his dog. I'm pretty unbiased so I'll tell you what I've observed in the 4-5yrs I have been going there:\r -The staff/vet techs are wonderful people! They know you and your pets and they give you a sense of community. \r -McPhail tends to be impersonal, seems to always be rushed, and does not seem to communicate well. (eg. hard to get a word in edgewise and have your concerns and questions explained.)\r -Some of their pricing tends to be high, but sometimes you get discounts, for things like boarding multiple dogs, and free grooming.\r -The staff recommended going to the PetMed Mobile to avoid pricey shots given by them. (Of course don't tell McPhail that!)\r -They performed rectal surgery on our senior dog, only to discover afterwords that his lymphs and glands were swollen and he would need to be put down. \r -Since he came out of surgery and had to be put down more

Our Vet 3/12/2010

I am very saddened by the review that said bad things about Dr McPhhail and his staff! I have taken my animals to him since 1992 and he is wonderful! Chuck, PaulAnne and Doctor McPhail have kept me coming back to them for 18 years now even though I have to drive over 30 minutes to get to their office! I have "tried out" 5 new vets who are closer to me in proximity but I keep going back to Dr. McPhail and his team...I would drive all day if I had to...I promise you that you will not be disappointed in them! They are Awesome and they love your baby almost as much as you do...I promise! more

Terrible!!!!! 10/16/2009

I'm trying to figure out why I had such a bad experience here - just my luck, I suppose. Two people recommended Dr. McPhail to me and obviously the reviewers before me were pleased but I thought he was just awful! First of all, I made my appointment for 5:30pm because I work until 5pm and knew I couldn't get there sooner. When I arrived, the doors were locked so I knocked a few times. After a couple of minutes, someone finally answered and asked if they could help me. I said that I had an appointment for my pet at 5:30pm. He told me that I was supposed to be there at 5pm but they'd help me anyway. Gee, thanks - you screwed up but you're making me feel like an idiot. Second, the doctor didn't listen to a word I said. He just kept interrupting me the entire time. Next, he made ME hold my pet while he took blood and gave her a shot while two vet technicians watched! I am not the one getting paid to do those things. I searched high and low, McPhail is the BEST! 12/1/2008

I am very particular about my Drs and Vets. Dr. McPhail and Kennon were the 5th vet practice I tried in the area. They do not gouge you so they can work in fancy facilities or pressure you to put your pet under anaesthetic so they can clean her ears (yes, this actually happened at another local vet!). What you get for your money is good people who take pride in being the best.\r \r I'm so very impressed with their knowledge and courtesy that I can't imagine ever using another team. Dr Kennon was able to accurately and quickly diagnose Lucy the Wonderdog when Addison's disease crept up on her. It's quite rare and, judging by what I read online, often mis-diagnosed. Not only was his decisive and accurate read of her symptoms impressive, it may have well saved her life! She's now doing quite well (over 3 years since she was diagnosed). more

World Class Vets 9/11/2008

We have gone to McPhail Animal Hospital for 28 years. Dr McPhail and Kennon are World Class vets who take excellent care of your animals and make a point of knowing the pet owners as well. Chuck and Paul Anne are special staff members who add to this rating.\r \r We would not take our precious pets anywhere else. This animal hospital has special people who love animals and give your animals the very best of care. Who could ask for anything more? more

BEST VETERINARIAN 1/11/2008

We have been going to McPhail Animal Hospital for over 10 years. Dr. McPhail has taken care of my 7 animals. Dr. McPhail is a wonderful veterinarian who cares for my animals like his own, he even gives them treats. Dr. Kennon is the second veterinarian who is very knowledgeable and though when examining my animals. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. I have toured the facilities and they are always clean and immaculate. The groomer does a wonderful job taking care of my poodle. This is a wonderful clinic with friendly and knowledgeable staff, I know my animals are getting the best of care when they are here. more

  • Dr. Walt McPhail bought this practice in 1978 and has been working with animals in Mauldin ever since. He graduated from Georgia in Vet Medicine in 1968 and was in the armed services for 3 years.
