Awestruck by rudeness and a lack of tact 9/11/2011

Came here all the way from Toronto after hearing the food was good. While my father parked the car my mother and I went in and spotted a table for 4. There was no wait and the waitress agreed we could sit there... but only until my father entered the restaurant. Until then we were left to stand there. The response was so curt and rude that we ignored her and approached the bartender to explain that we were just waiting for someone to park and they'd be there in a minute. ""Can't sit until everyone's here in the restaurant. Restaurant policy,"" was his response. ""Do you think I'm lying to you and there is no third person?"" I asked. ""We just want to have a seat while we wait for him."". This was met by a very rude response and we decided to leave. On the way out the bartender told my 65-year old mother that he hopes she trip on the sidewalk. What a gem! more

Horribly rude management not friendly to business customers 6/16/2011

While Murphy's has a nice draft selection and cocktail menu, the food is pedestrian and poorly seasoned. Tonight was my third visit and each dish was underwhelming. This I could forgive as I knowingly prefer complex, layered flavors that stand up and provide a nice punch. The owner's behavior is what I cannot forgive and what will keep me from ever coming back. more

Great food, but no credit accepted? 4/19/2011

I absolutely love the food here... I rarely leave unhappy. I was in for lunch today and the lamb sirloin burger was above average and I was very pleased. The new decor is interesting as it deviates a bit from their rustic feel of years ago which I thought was extremely charming, but that's a minor distraction. I would like to see them start accepting credit/debit. Numerous times I mention to coworkers that we go here and it gets shot down due to us being unable to split the tab with a card or two. Great food, good drinks, but only good for a date or a quick lunch with one or two people. more

No credit cards - ?! Let's join the new century, Matt's ! 2/15/2009

Great Food, atmosphere, and beer...a bit pricey 5/17/2007

I love Matt Murphy's and I've taken many friends here for drinks and to listen to the local bands that they often have playing. However, the food is quite expensive, but then again it is pretty good. Try the the fish and chips! The decor has a really warm feeling and makes you really feel like you are in an traditional Pub. The room can get quite crowded on weekend nights, but that makes the experience all that much more fun. I've had many very random conversations! If you are in Brookline Village or are looking for a truly relaxed Pub with a semi-upclass feeling give Murphy's a try. Pros: Food, atmosphere, drinks Cons: Price of Food more

comfortable casual atmosphere, excellent food, friendly help 9/14/2006

I've been a Matt Murphy fan since it opened and have found the food, whether casual or more complicated always good and sometimes surprisingly so. It's convenient and offers a fine selection of nibbles to have with a great selection of beers. Frequently crowded, it doesn't have the ambience for a romantic dinner but is great for pals getting together. The staff is always helpful and lots of fun. My only complaint is that the kitchen isn't open past 10 pm during the week! Brookline Village could use a good late night kitchen guys and this one would be ideal. Pros: Great location, excellent food surprising for a bar, great staff Cons: Lots of noise, can be a long wait for a table, kitchen closes at 10 pm more

Delicious, authentic food, cozy atmosphere 7/4/2006

We love to go to Matt Murphy's on a cold winter night. The food is kind of Irish comfort food -- my favorite is the crispy, buttery half roasted chicken with delicious mashed potatoes. The atmosphere is a very authentic pub feel: small, cozy, and family style -- the tables are very close together and you may find yourself sharing a large table with another party. But that's all part of the charm. We've met lots of nice people here and had great conversations with people we had never met before. Great beer on tap, and great Irish soda bread served with a giant slab of butter. It can get crowded sometimes, but it's definitely worth a go. Pros: food, ambience, price Cons: can get very crowded more
