Last night my girlfriend and I went to the location in Crystal Cove and had an amazing dinner. The service was personable and punctual. My filet was great and my gf had a nice portion of tasty king crab. We have had drinks in their bar quite a few times but rarely sit down for a full dinner. I recommend asking for a table by the window at sunset. It was unbelievable and a nice treat to a busy weekend. I absolutely loved the food, the butter cake for dessert was sooooooo good. highly recommended!!! Service was actually excellent. I made reservations, showed up about 10 minutes late and they still sat us right away. Not a place to grab dinner quickly. It's a really social dinner place, perfect for nights when you just want to relax, have a bottle of wine, great food, and some good company. Waiters didn't rush us and gave us time to finish each course. No wonder this place has so many regulars!!! Will DEFINITLY eat there again. Although this place specialty are seafood, I tend to order their steaks. I've have order some seafood entree in the past and was disappointed. I expected alot more. I am however never disappointed with their steaks. They don't offer as many cuts as there steakhouse in Costa Mesa, but offer many fine cuts. Their sides are wonderful! I am always impressed by their wonderful sides. The gorgonzola mac and cheese is a must! The view is exceptional as well as the ambiance. This is a very to be seen place. I enjoy seeing all the beautiful people and cars. The food is wonderful, but don't expect something that is innovative. They offer simple dishes that are done well. Went there on a Wednesday night. First of all, I had asked for a table overlooking the ocean b/c it was a special occasion. I had called TWICE to confirm this with the hostess, and she assured me it would be taken care of. Yet when we arrived, no one seemed to have any recollection of this! I was also told a birthday dessert would be brought out, which never was until I had to go ASK about it. For such an expensive experience, the service totally SUCKED! more

I went to Mastro's a couple weeks ago to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends. I've been to the Mastro's in Beverly Hills and expected the same level of service at the Newport Beach location but was highly disappointed. The waiter was SUPER SLOW in taking our order. It took him about an hour and a half to take our order and then another hour or so for our food to come out. We arrived at about 8pm and the restaurant was not packed so there was really no excuse for the service to be so slow. We waited so long that several of the people went outside to smoke while we waited inside for them to see that we were all ready to order. Regardless, the steaks and sides we ordered were good, as well as the nice dessert they brought out for my birthday. Only suggestion to them is to be more ATTENTIVE! Pros: food Cons: service more

I went to Mastro's the first time a couple weeks ago. I am not a big seafood fan but I totally recommend it! The food was great, but most of all I was impressed by the service. I use to wait tables for about 10 years so I know what to look for and everything was top notch. Ben was our server who was fantastic. Go to Mastro's ask for Ben and order the Butter Cake for desert and you will not be disappointed. more

Have been several times now and it has not let me down. I am VERY picky when it comes to both food and service. The first time I went I was thoroughly impressed. That said I've been waiting for a let down and have been back 5 times and have not had a let down yet. In 6 visits I've only had reservations 4 times and was seated immediately upon my arrival 5 of 6 times. The only time I wasn't seated immediately upon arrival I had no reservation and a party of 3. I was escorted to the bar to wait and was seated in 20 min. on a Thursday night. The wait staff is very knowledgeable of the menu and helpful with selections. The food has been nothing short of spectacular. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fine dining and a great atmosphere Pros: Staff, Food, Atmosphere Cons: They don't deliver more

Waited over an hour past our reservation time, several other people were in the same situation. Only highlight of the evening was meeting an English gentleman and his lovely companion from a prominent orange county family who had the same problem. She booked weeks in advance and told us that the staff had been extremely unhelpful, unwilling to provide even elementary assistance. Reservations are no guarantee of a table. If you know the ladies on the desk personally you seem to have no problem, reservation or not. People arriving after we did were seated immediately. The bar staff are poorly organized, cocktail waitresses seem to be more interested in chatting to customers than serving drinks. The front desk people are incompetent and rude, making jokes about the clothing or appearance of female customers. We started with Oysters Rockerfeller, exceptional recommendation by our waiter Troy. Not many restaurants serve arctic char; it was lightly seasoned and floured- cooked and presented perfectly! My husband had a rib-eye steak and it was good, but he liked my arctic char better. The service was appropriately attentive. We had an early dinner with a lovely (open) window table.
