generic experience 4/13/2011

To a large extent a massage is a massage and feels good if you really need it. Since I don't treat myself to a massage all that often it is important for me to make it worth it. I unfortunately don't think massage envy is worth it...here's why: the massage chairs are generic and almost a little uncomfortable. Since I have a larger bust I prefer bed that have an adjustable dip in the chest area so that I can lay flat on my chest more comfortably. I noticed their use of hot towels is severely lacking which is unfortunate because with proper use they can exponentially add to the experience ( I enjoy hot towels on my feet double wrapped with a dry towel to trap in heat). the bathrooms were another disappointment.... No lotion after hand washing, things like that add up to make it be a less that adequate experience and discourage me from ever going to another. - there was no hot tea that was decaf.....hello after a massage it is important kto hydrate and if caffeine is a dehydrating diuretic, then logically it would make sense to have more herbal teas. I am not going to get my morning fix. - no aromatherapy oils.....is this really a massage? Places I have been in the past ask me what kind of scent I prefer... Oh no not here.... Its only some god knows what kind of lotion. Probably something from target. Needless to say my massage was good...although there were a few questionable things that he did that made me wonder what the point was. I got the general sense that massage envy hires people that went to all sorts of schools and the company doesn't enforce standard structural massages. This can be good or bad. Either way a risk I probably won't take again. Overall I felt the best word to describe it was that it was a generic experience. I didn't feel anything I encountered was over the top....just average or possibly slightly below. Also the man who massaged me never followed up afterwards with feedback.... Our goodbye was the fastest I've ever had( and I'm not grotesque for it to be from disgust) more

Very Happy With Massage Envy! 1/6/2011

I tried Massage Envy with one of their promotional offers when they first opened. The prices were great, so I went ahead and signed up. I did not feel pressured to join AT ALL. Since massages end at the same time, I've checked out with several people who have come in for the first time. I was not pressured to join and haven't seen anyone pressured. Since there are so many therapists, I've bounced around until I've found the ones that I like. Some are better than others, but I've found that to be true everywhere. I have problems with spasms in my lower back and I've found therapists there that have been a God send when my back fritzes out. Over the years, I've been to Marma, Pleasant Road, Club H and Roop in Hoboken and the massages I've had at Massage Envy are just as good or better. The big difference is the price! I can now afford to get a massage on a regular basis. I also haven't had a problem getting appointments at Massage Envy - even at the last minute. They are worth checking out. At the least, you'll get a massage for a great price. And if you don't like it, you don't have to go back! :-) more

The Massage Envy Experience 1/2/2011

The price is right, the location convenient, but the service is really poor. I've been trying for several months (I bought the membership) and have generally had "OK" massages but nothing I'd recommend. The scheduling and general experience sucks. Anyone know where you can get a REAL deep tissue massage in Hoboken? more

$49 for 50min hands on massage. Do the math, that's great! 8/9/2010

Guys, I’ve been to Pleasant Road, Body Balance, Marma, Spa H & even Bliss. But the best massages for the price BY FAR have been at Massage Envy Spa in Hoboken. And yes, they sell memberships, I have one, and I find it to be convenient. The spa is gorgeous & clean. Did you know there are over 20 massage therapists on staff so you’re bound to find someone you’ll love. The best part for me is that they’re open 7 days & ‘till 10pm so I can get in after work. My wife loved her facial. I don’t know why anyone would be upset over the hour ad when the quality massage makes up for it. Suite yourself if you rather pay $165 or more for a deep tissue elsewhere. I only pay $74 for 80 minutes hands on! & when I travel, I can use my member perks there because they have locations in just about every state. Check them out for yourself and ignore those haters. I love this place. more

My experience at Massage Envy 8/6/2010

I am a freak for a massages so I Spa hop to find out which Spa gives the best massages and services ..... first the spa is in a bad location , you have to pay to park , which is not that big of a deal , but my complaint with them is that they advertise a 1 hr. massage which is only 50 mins. they tak 10 mins. off your service for robing and disrobing , this is something new to me as a spa hopper I have never been to a spa that take time off your service for getting undressed and dressed, then at the end of my service they left me needing anothe massage by stressing me with trying to get a membership , this in it self will make me not come back because of the pressure that is put on you to purchase a membership , then they give me a paper at the end to tell me my stress areas , (hellow that is what im here for , to destress myself ) .... I had Jessica which gave a great massage so the whole experience was not a total waste , thanks Jessica . more

Great value for excellent spa services 5/26/2010

I'm a self proclaimed spa junkie. Monthly facials and massages were built into my budget...... until the recent economic changes...... so for the low prices that spa envy was charging, I was a bit suspicious. However, it was a fantastic experience. I had an unbelievable facial and quickly came back for a massage. Both were equally amazing. The staff is professional, pleasant, talented and they use great products. I can't recommend them enough. Pros: great spa environment and excellent service more

reply to poor therapist ALICE831 2/8/2010

I’m currently a client here at massage envy and i think that they are the best in town. The pricing is awesome! Therapist’s and staff are phenomenal... personally i think ALICE831 you are a little harsh on the criticism perhaps because you’re a competitor...i personally have had the best experience there i definite do not feel like I’m at a hospital cause hospitals don’t serve u tea or brownies!!!So to the staff and owners of massage envy keep up the great work and ignore all the haters like alice831... more

Poor therapists 1/31/2010

As a massage therapist I check out every single spas in the area when I am not working to improve my skills and take care of my own body. I was curious about massage envy and I saw there was one opening a few blocks from me. I didn't hear good things about it but I thought I give it a try. I've been working for a while so I know what to ask for and I know when I get it. I sat on the waiting room like at a hospital with many other people. I was the next assembly line that was to go in. It felt very creepy like I was about to go into a machinery or something. As soon as I met with my therapist who barely looked at me in the eye. She looked somewhat burnt out and I can tell her hands were shaking. I asked her to work myofascial on my neck and rhomboids and then trigger point. She didn't do anything I asked for and just gave me a very robotic swedish massage without going over one trigger point. (I don't think she knew what they were that I asked for honestly). I talked to her towards the end as a fellow therapist in the area and asked her a question or two and she told me that the only way to make a living at massage envy is to do 7 massages a day because she only gets 15 a massage. Can you believe that!???? Wow, I was astonished and ashamed because I felt like I was exploiting her. I felt bad for her and left a big tip but never to return... I mean if you want someone to just rub your back for a cheap price go for it. Massage is just more than a "back rub". Only people who have experienced the real quality massage know what I am talking about but it can really help to balance your energy, get rid of tension, improve your posture, mood and sense of general well-being with the right quality massage with the right therapist with the right intention!!! Pros: Great location Cons: Poor service and quality of massage more

quality massage!! 1/21/2010

I've been to a few different massage places in Hoboken. Many of the places just think pressing hard into your back and neck is a massage. If you want professional care and a quality massage...GO TO MASSAGE ENVY!! well-priced as well!!! Pros: best in Hoboken more

Love my massage membership! 1/21/2010

I am a total massage junky and I love Massage Envy's membership program! Spas have become so expensive and it's easy to end up spending hundreds of dollars without even realizing it! Living in Hoboken isn't exactly cheap living, so Massage Envy gives me a great way to get my frequent massages at a great price. Love it! more
