Our caterer cancelled on us a week before my wedding and Shana and her crew stepped up and made it happen for me without blinking an eye. They were amazing to work with and the gu...

Since the place moved into its new digs (which are gorgeous), the food is better...but still erratic. Two weeks ago the brisket was to die for...it was just perfect. Last night it...

Great Meat...sides..so, so 3/22/2009

The beef brisket was great..very tender. Girlfriend had the ribs, a little dry...but still good. But the sides were fair at best and the cornbread was disappointing, it was a cornbread pancake, not the cake you expect. Atmosphere was as advertised, a joint, which is where you usually find the best bbq. Pros: The brisket was great Cons: don't get the cornbread more

Best BBQ in Middle Tennessee 1/4/2009

This is the best BBQ I've found during an eight year search in the greater Nashville area. If I walk in a BBQ joint and smell liquid smoke I turn around and walk out. I'm originally from West Tennessee and we know good BBQ. Pros: The pulled pork. Cons: None that I can think of. more

If ever BBQ could change your life... 6/4/2008

Went yesterday for the first time and had the rib basket and brisket plate. No sides, no desserts. Just going for the products of the smoker. I've been known to throw a brisket on the smoker every once in a while so I thought I knew a little something about the craft. People...this is something else entirely. I mean, this is like a revelation of what a human being can do with a smoker. Really, why put 20 hrs into a cut of meat when you can get a top quality steak in under 20 minutes? Just to say you cooked it for 20 hrs as if the cooking time itself was some sort of accomplishment? Not at all. Yet that's all a lot of BBQ places seem to have going for them. Yesterday at Martin's was like hearing an answer from on high, and all I could say was, ""Oh...I see. That's why we do what we do when we BBQ."" Truly, this is inspirational food from an inspired crew. Pros: A message of BBQ love more

Best barbecue by far... 4/30/2008

We have been looking for a good barbecue place, and we found it. My husband had heard good things about Martin's and we decided to give it a try. We loved the pulled pork, very tender and a wonderful flavor. Love the bbq sauce. We got the ketchup based one. Delicious, The hot sauces was nuclear just as described to us. The brisket was very well done and cooked. Everything was cooked fresh for us and hot. Great prices as well. We will definitely be back and will get more next time! Pros: friendly, delicious more

Great BBQ and a great family restaurant 3/20/2008

I went out to Martins BBQ the other day because I kept hearing people talk about it, and I have to say it was the best BBQ i have ever eaten. Next time I go I'm taking the whole family!! Keep up the good work ! more

Don't see what the fuss is 2/16/2008

I LUV Ribs. And after reading all the hype about Martins, we made the trek down there. I ordered Ribs and Wings, and the rest ordered pull pork. The pork was average, and the ribs and wings were SLATHERED in sauce. Have never seen that much sauce in my life. Took 'em home and wiped it off and it tasted better. Could see where it had potential, but certainly not worth the drive to find out again. Pros: Good service Cons: Too much sauce more

Best BBQ in Middle Tennessee 2/15/2008

I am a competitive bbq cooker, and that makes me very critical of bbq joints. In competition cooking it is all about consistency, and by far Martin's is the most consistent bbq place in Middle Tennessee. If you have ever tried to cook a brisket, you will be amazed at how Pat Martin can create a juicy, moist, and flavorful brisket every time. As a bbq connoisseur and even a certified bbq judge, I highly recommend a trip out to Martin's. Pros: brisket tacos, wings more

Simply Awesome! 2/13/2008

Been hearing about Martins all over Nashville and finally got out there to try it. It is everything we've been hearing and some. We've been several times now and its awesome every time. This is the best bbq Ive had around town. Highly recommended!!! Pros: Best bbq we've had around Nashville Cons: needs a little more space more

BBQ 1/30/2008

Martin's BBQ Joint has pretty good BBQ but could improve my serving hot meat instead of lukewarm. The BBQ has a great southern taste and being from Memphis, I know how it should be. However, the side items are terrible. Get some new ones, Patrick! The fries are nasty! Keep up the good work but maybe have some ""local Nolensville Nights"" for the locals to come in and enjoy the food. Maybe a special or two. more

Best BBQ Found Yet! 11/6/2007

This is the first review I've ever written. But, after visiting Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint, I felt inclined to do so. I have travelled all around the great state of TN to find the best BBQ and my search has ended. I am a certified Kansas City BBQ Society judge so I tend to hold my expectations to a higher level. Martin's met and exceeded that level. Upon my first visit, I ordered ribs, brisket and pulled pork. On my second and thrid visits, I tried the half chicken as well as the bologna sandwich. Reviews below: Pros: Excellent Food, Ice-Cold Beer more

Best BBQ Ever 10/13/2007

This place is great. THe smoked wings are excellent, so it the pulled pork. I sometimes get it to go, heat in the oven a few days later. The sauce is teriffic. So are the fries. Everything they have is great. We have been there 10 times or more now because it's addicting, and it's well worth venturing out to Nolensville. The only negative is that they often run out of items on the menu, which is frustrating when you drive 20 miles to get there. I have been there twice when they are out of wings. They also have ettouffee on the menu, which we have asked for 10 times. It was only available once, though because I guess they only make it sometimes, Anyone in food service should know that's not acceptable. But overall, this place is excellent. Pros: Great food~ Cons: Inconsistent Menu more

Martin's Bar B Que Joint 10/11/2007

We love bar b que and I consider myself a pretty good bar b quer...But this place is fantastic. The ribs were great, the pulled pork sandwich wonderful, the fries terrific..What more can you say except we will be back soon. Next will be the brisket and my wife is looking forward to the chili. So much great food, so little time!!!! Pros: Great food more

barbque for the ages 8/7/2007

I saw the Tennessean and channel 4 reviews on this small rib joint place. I decided to do lunch there last thursday. I was expoecting this greasy spoon type of place, and it was packed full of people. As a rib guy, I was excited to order the half rac od ribs with a pulled pork sandwich. The sauce on the ribs was tangy enough to satisfy my barbque needs. The meat was so well cooked it fell right off the bones. The pulled pork sandwich was amazing and could of stood as a full meal all by itself. The was so much food i took osme home for lunch the next day. Guess what? Just as good the next day. If you have a pulse and a heartbeat, go eat at this place now!!! Pros: great barbeque....original food like barbque shrimp tacos Cons: none yet more

Miss Hattie would be proud!! 7/28/2007

You know, sometimes when you hear about a restaurant, you are disappointed when you go because the hype has built the place up to the point that no place could live up to the hype. I read the tennessean review, the top 13 recommendation, and all that. I have eaten bbq in kansas city at a place called the wabash that had spare ribs that talked to you... Well I drove down from Bowling Green to taste for myself and the ribs ROCK. I had a full slab with cornbread and baked beans and I will be coming back... I tried to talk to Pat after my meal , but he was catering. So Pat, you are the man. Keep it up, cause although I don't know the lady you named your smoker after, I'm sure she would be proud. Pros: Johnny Cash on the wall, great ribs, good sides Cons: Can't say I saw any more

""Artisanal"" Barbecue at its best! 7/12/2007

I have been eating and cooking bbq for a very long time and this is as good as I've ever had. It seems as if the more popular bbq becomes and the more places that open up the farther they get away from the real thing. Really GREAT bbq joints are getting harder and harder to find (for folks who have an experienced palate for it). The sandwich I had with sides (fries & cornbread) was just amazing. The meat by itself brought a proud smile to my face. I talked with the owner after my meal and was really impressed by the care and passion he had for his product, it is very refreshing to see that! This was some of the best bbq I have had the pleasure of eating and really look forward to a return visit. I would highly recommend you find this place and experience it, Martin's is amazing! Oh, and it is very reasonable. My sandwich with two sides and a drink was $7.64 (with tax!) Pros: As good as I've ever had more

Martin's is top tier bbq 7/7/2007

I've eaten bbq in at least 14 states. Chris ranks among my top 4 pork smokers. Only the sauce keeps me from rating Martin's 5-stars. Sauces and rubs are important to me. (I know, I know... purists don't care about the sauce... so I guess that disqualifies me as a bbq purist!) Rating his bbq and menu sides alone, based strictly on quality and flavor of the meat, I give Martin's a 5. Work on the sauces, Chris, but I'm still a BIG fan! more

Brisket at it's finest! 7/6/2007

I'm a bit picky (okay... REALLY picky) about my barbecue. Pork is of course the only ""real"" barbecue but my measure of a great smoke chef is the quality of his beef brisket. If you can BBQ a good brisket, you likely have the rest down pat. Patrick's beef brisket is hands down the best I've ever had the pleasure to taste. Even though my weakness is spare ribs, I have rarely ordered anything but the brisket. (Have I said how much I like the brisket???) The ribs are always a big treat and the pulled pork is so tender (and I DON'T mean overcooked and reheated!) it almost melts in your mouth. more

It's like ""cheers"" only better! 6/22/2007

Patrick and the staff are so friendly - they remember you when you come back and really make you feel like part of the family. Have you ever been somewhere and found yourself thinking ""I'd be friends with these guys"" - but you'd never met. That's the way it is at Martin's. It's not like going to a restaurant, but it's like you're kickin back at a big ole family reunion! A GOOD ONE! Pros: Too many pros to list here - it's ALL good. (I never was a HUGE BBQ fan, but I love this place!) Cons: I haven't found any yet. Oh - it's closed on Mondays - that stinks! more

If ya love GREAT FOOD, Willie and Waylon, This Great Land, and Falls City Beer. You have arrived. 6/15/2007

An Oasis in the Country. This joint is well worth the drive from anywhere. You will not go away hungry and you will not go away without a smile. The people are a 10 and the food is a 13. The brisket plate is the best and the hot sauce, she is hottt. I will never be inside 25 miles and not stop in. Bring the kids and an empty tummy and SHAKE it to the live music on Saturday Night. It will not be long until there are Martin's BBQ joints all over the map. This is the best BBQ outside of Memphis and inside Kossuth, MS. Make the drive to Martins in Nollensville, TN. You will be glad ya did. Pros: Music, Food, Ambience, People, Food, Parking, Beer, Music, People, Food, and the Beer Cons: Ambience needed once on saturday night when eyeball fell out the door. more
