good work, but iffy communication & scheduling 9/3/2013

They replaced a bunch of the external paneling on my house. They did a very nice job, including dealing with all of the "stuff" (e.g., windows, phone box, fuse box) attached to the siding. Good job of cleaning up after themselves. They only made one mistake (that I've found at this point), and they're working on correcting it. Communication and scheduling aren't so good, though. It often takes them a week or so to reply to email. And when they tell me that someone will do something on a certain day, they might or might not. The job eventually gets done, but the unpredictability feels unprofessional. more

Easy to work with. 6/5/2013

Everything with Mark Mongird Construction went as planned for the most part. It took a little longer than expected to complete the job but that was due to the city and getting inspections done so it wasn't their fault. It seemed like the foreman onsite was very willing to work with us to get things the way we liked them. That was nice. We had a lot of contractors working around the house and they were definitely the easiest to work with. more

Accurate cost and schedule estimating. Satisfied at the end. 6/3/2013

I used Mark Mongird Construction for a bathroom remodel and a more major remodel. In terms of the work, the scheduling and the cost estimates, they were pretty accurate. Sometimes little mistakes were made but I've never had a project where that didn't happen so they are average in that regard. Sometimes the detail in the follow ups lagged a bit but that is also true for most companies so that's average again. Otherwise, they were excellent. more

Very responsive to my requests, detailed estimate 4/8/2013

Mark Mongird Construction has done rather small projects for me, but I am hoping to do more work with them in the future. I thought Mark did a very detailed estimate for his work. He broke it down and I thought he was very responsive to my requests. Overall, I thought he was very fantastic. I heard about him from a gal who did drawings for me, and I would highly recommend them. more

For two years now we have had the pleasure of working with Mark and Mark Mongird Construction Inc. on the restoration of our mid-century modern house in Menlo Park. Mark was referred to us by our Realtor. Initially we were impressed by his resume of past construction projects, his craftsman-like details, and his customer service. The restoration was a tricky process requiring resourcefulness and creativity. They exceeded all of our expectations. Mark always solved any problems with well thought out solutions. We were never disappointed. Mark Mongird Construction has real craftsmen and gets the job done right. I highly recommend them. These folks are the real deal, you couldn't find any better. more

Great customer service. Outstanding worksmanship. 4/1/2013

Mark Mongird Construction has done several jobs for us. They've remodeled a kitchen and a bathroom, made a small addition, and replaced all our windows, which was rather complicated. In all cases, we continue to live in the house. The workmanship is absolutely outstanding. The only negative is that some of the last things took awhile to get completed, but they were responsive when I complained about that. more

We've used Mongird Construction for three jobs. Two bathrooms and a kitchen, as well as some general maintenance. Three remodel pieces. They have consistently good service. They're a local company with investment in doing a good job for follow-up business and referrals within their own neighborhood. He's a contractor who stands by his work. more

Contractor remodel recommendation 7/12/2012

I have worked with Mongird Construction on large and small remodel jobs at my own home and most recently on an extensive remodel a duplex in Menlo Parl. Mark, the owner is very easy to work with and has an excellent crew working for him. Remodeling can be challenging for both the property owner and the contractor because of all the unknowns. From my experience no matter what the surprise Mark always keeps his cool. By now I think he has seen just about everything. I would recommend him if you are considering hiring a general contractor. more

We have used Mark over the years for many projects and regretted it when we didn't!\r They always let you know what's going on, finish in a timely manner and leave the place clean.\r No job is too small or too big - that is not always easy to find. more

Highly Recommend Mongird Construction 4/16/2012

We've used Mark and his crew for several projects, from re-doing work of a unscrupulous contractor we wish we'd never hired for a major remodel, to replacing leaking pipes underneath our house, to a recent bathroom remodel. In all instances Mark was easily accessible, gave us a fair bid, did the work on time (if not early) and within budget. The things I most appreciate about Mark: he's fair, honest, trusting and trustworthy; he suggests ways to keep our costs down since that's been a high priority for us; his crews pick up after themselves and always leave the work place clean at the end of the day; and he's clearly in the business for the long-haul, never making recommendations that might have a short-term gain but we might regret down the road. I have nothing but the highest regard for Mark and his staff/crew, and we're now talking with him about a kitchen remodel. more

We have watched each others kids grow up (and dogs) and have always been impressed with the integrity and reliability of his company, his support staff and his workers. Our projects have never been without surprises - and we have been able to design and complete projects in an innovative way! Many Projects -- All Went Well 4/13/2012

We've used Mongird Construction on several projects -- we did a major redo of several rooms and a bathroom, and everything turned out exactly as we'd hoped. They were on time, on budget, and minimized the disruption of this project.\r \r Their staff are always courteous and professional. And Mark and his team in the office are very helpful as well.\r \r Once we completed the major project, we've hired them again for nearly all of our smaller projects as well. I first learned of Mongird Construction through a friend of ours, who had a couple of projects done by Mark in the past. My wife and I interviewed several different contractors and Mark stood out for a number of reasons. He was more thorough than others in his assessment of the work involved. Mark was also very patient and more than willing to come over repeatedly (we had not signed a contract with him at that time) to go over some new details my wife and I dreamt up. And finally, Mark was very open about his costs and would break the project down into pieces which no other contractor was willing to do.\r \r \r \r Our project consisted of tearing down our house to the frame, adding on a couple of new sections and rebuilding everything from scratch. Once the project got underway, we found Mark's crew to be punctual, clean, trustworthy and very hard-working. The guys worked full days and would come in on Saturdays too. Highly recommended 4/30/2009

I highly recommend Mongird Construction. I've had experience with several different general contractors on a variety of small to medium size home remodeling projects, and Mongird is one of the best. Mark and his staff are low key but competent and efficient, which is a very effective combination. They remodeled a bathroom, removing the old shower and floor, fixing the faulty plumbing/shower installation that had been leaking for years into the subfloor, repairing all the dry rot, and installing a new tiled shower and floor. The tiling subcontractor was a real craftsman, he did an outstandingly meticulous and neat job. The job site was cleaned up each day, and even the demolition, which is always a messy business, was quickly tidied up. Mark kept the project mostly on schedule and within budget, and was very creative about compensating for what schedule slippage there was- a temporary shower curtain wound up being installed so we could use the new bathroom over the holidays while we wa more

Mongird Construction was chosen for our home remodel because Mark Mongird had a successful, verifiable track record. As we planned our remodel, it was like a stale piece of bubble gum: the more we chewed the bigger it got. It ultimately included the extension of the kitchen and a major remodel, raising the sunken living room floor, new slate flooring in the entryway and the family room, hardwood floors in the living room and dining room, removal of the popcorn ceilings, smoothing the plaster on all walls, new lighting everywhere, remodeling a bathroom, and finally a new deck with an outdoor kitchen.
