Madeleine's Daughter

I first went to Madeline's Daughter in 2009. I found a dress there that was almost perfect. I told the saleswoman that I loved the dress, but I wanted to add some pickups to the bottom of it, as it just hung straight down the way it was, and add a longer train. She insisted that this was possible and even had a seamstress come in to confirm. I guess people will say whatever it takes to get you to buy something. After taking over $2k of my money and making me wait 2 months longer than I was promised, I got a call that my dress was in. When I went to go see it, it wasn't the correct dress and they tried to insist that it was! It wasn't until I showed them photos of me in the dress the last time I was there that they finally acknowledged the mistake. They said they would inquire about where my real dress was and get back to me. A few weeks later, I got another call in which they tell me my dress can't be made like that after all and did I just want to come back up and pick another one. Obviously I freaked out and after several unpleasant conversations with managers and owners, I was finally told, once again, that my dress could indeed be ordered the way I wanted it, but I would have to wait another 5 months. This totally screwed up my schedule as they told me when I first ordered my dress that it would take at least 9 months to do the alterations and my wedding was less than 12 months away. Thank God I started looking at dresses early! Again they assured me that they would do whatever it takes to get it done. Here's the best part, my dress finally comes in the way it's supposed to, I go for my first alteration, they tell me to come back in 2 months so that they can get all the work done. When I come back two months later, all the pins are still in it and not one thing has been done! They apologized and said that the seamstress decided it was too much work for her to do and that she decided she wanted another seamstress to do it instead, but failed to tell anyone over the course of the last two months. This is 3 months before my wedding people! Did I mention that they took another $200 from me when my dress first arrived to do these alterations? After throwing an absolute fit, I finally got refunded my alteration money (because nothing had been done), took my dress and left. I had to find my own outside seamstress who could do 9 months worth the work in 2. Not surprisingly, once I got to my first fitting with her I also found out that the dress was made incorrectly and what I wanted to have done to the dress (simple pickups) could not, because there wasn't enough fabric, despite the fact that MD promised there was by 3 different seamstresses. What a joke. Thanks alot Madeline's Daughter - everything you said was a complete lie - completely inexperienced morons. Do not risk the most important day of your life on the empty promises of these people. This is supposed to be the best part of getting married, not the worst. more

I could not be happier with my experience at Madeleine's Daughter. I had first contacted them to see if they had a dress was interested in trying on in stock. They did, and were able to get me in right away. The sales consultant had the dress ready when I arrived and pulled a few more to try after hearing my budget and what I was looking for. I never felt pressured at any point to try anything I didn't care for or to order a dress that day. I didn't buy shoes or accessories here and was never approached to do so. I bought my shoes elsewhere, and the shop offered to dye them for me. When I decided to order, she measured me and we looked at a chart together to decide what size to order. When I ordered the dress, my wedding was still over a year away, but I soon learned that I would have to move a few months after ordering it. As soon as my dress arrived, everyone at Madeleine's Daughter worked to make sure my dress would be ready 10 months before I had originally needed it. It needed to be taken in a little and I had the train removed. They even gave me a slight price break on the alterations since my dress was simple. My dress was ready within weeks of it arriving and the work was beautiful. Once I got it home I realized that it had been snagged slightly by the bag zipper. They told me to bring it in and it was fixed immediately. I had such a wonderful experience at Madeleine's Daughter. They made what could have been a very stressful situation very easy. Customer service and competence are hard to come by nowadays, but this place excels at both. I do not ever write reviews, but I felled propelled to praise them. I would encourage anyone to use them. more

Buyer Beware! They sell you a sample dress and claim the dress is brand new!!! I purchased a brand new Pronovias wedding dress fall of 08 for my fall of 09 wedding. In May of 09 I went in for my first dress fitting, When I tried on the dress I was very unhappy, the seams on the sides of the dress were not centered which made the dress look crooked. We brought this to the attention of the seamstress and my sales associate. We asked to see the sample dress to show that the dress was defected. They gave a lot of back lash saying it was in our heads and the dressed looked fine. We spoke to the manager and they said it would all be fixed for our next fitting. My next fitting was in Sep of 09 and we were extremely happy because the dress seemed like a new dress. We went to pick up the dress two days before the wedding and they didn't have the dress ready after calling that morning to confirm. We had to pick up the dress the next day. The night before the wedding we had to steam the dress in the hotel room because it was wrinkled from being in the bag. While steaming, we noticed loose beading. The day of my wedding I noticed that the dress did not have the white liner underneath. That is the last thing I wanted to think about and went on with my day. Now March of 2010 I went to have my dress cleaned and preserved and they noticed that all the care instruction and size tags were cut out of the dress. When I called Madelein's Daughter to ask why there were no tags in the dress they said that was odd because only the sample dress doesn't have tags. I then confronted them on how I thought they sold me the sample dress and they denied it. I then called Pronovias directly and they told me that they would be calling Madelien’s Daughter directly because the tags should never be cut out of the dress. Also FYI I ordered 5 bridesmaid dresses from them and it took 7 and half months for them to come in. I had to call the manufacture directly to grantee they would be there for my wedding. Stay away! I walked in with 6 of my 8 bridesmaids to look for bridesmaid dresses. We had an appointment and we arrived 15 minutes early. They told us to start looking and someone would be with us shortly. No one came around to help us and they had little selection of bridesmaid dresses. It wasn't worth the trip up to Portsmouth from MA. I heard they have a good selection of bridal dresses but we never made it that far we ended up just leaving after no getting any help. Pros: Nothing Cons: Not a great selection more

For a store that carries such beautiful designer dresses, their attitudes really cheapen the experience. The entire time I was there my consultant badmouthed other stores. Give it a rest! I was not there to hear about their latest arguement with their competitors. I bought my dress somewhere that wasn't so overly dramatic. more

My experience with Madeleine's Daughter was outstanding! Heather was so professional and really listened to me and what my vision was for a dress. The first time I went was mid-week and I was the 1st appointment of the day, and my mom, sister and I were led to a private room with pedestal and mirrors, even a private bathroom! I thought maybe it would be busier and less personal the second time I went which was on a Saturday but I still felt special and Heather did not act like I was taking too much of her time. The selection here is broad enough for anyone to find something they love. Pros: expertise and friendliness of staff, private dressing rooms more

Do not have Natalie help you! She was rude and acted like we were wasting her time. She completely ruined what is supposed to be an exciting and special time in a girl's life. I can not speak for the other consultants but it does reflect on the kind of people they hire. I will never go back there again and I would never recommend this place to anyone!! more

Just got married and can't say enough good stuff about my experience. staff is friendy and very informative and professional. Place is spacious and beautiful everyone is helpful and my seamstree, Denise was amazing. more
