Incredible New Chef and Menu 3/6/2009

My family has been dining at Mad Greek since it opened on Coventry. We have known the family that owns the restaurant since we were kids. I heard that they had a great new chef and wanted to see what it was all about, since the menu has been the same for years, and we have not been there in a while. We were really amazed at the changes. Of course some of our old favorites were gone, but who cares. Things cannot stay the same forever. Really surprised at 2 recent reviews on here slamming a very talented and proven chef who has created some very beautiful food. We brought a party of 8 and sampled almost all new items and absolutely loved everything. The menu is so much more well rounded. Anyone who actually knows anything about food will see this. They have done a fantastic job. We had all the new appetizers and new salads, tried the Short Rib entree, Homemade Gyro, Fishermans Stew, Hanger Steak, and a Seared Salmon Dish with Beets. We also had an awesome Bronzini fish special in a saffron broth that may have been the best thing to ever come out of that kitchen !! We finished with a rice cake dessert that was the special of the week, and was soooo good !! We will be going back more often for sure. Pros: Great ambience and classic decor. Comortable tables and seating. more

Great new changes 2/11/2009

The Mad Greek has recently undergone many changes! Some of our old favorites were gone, but we were able to find things that we liked even more. We decided that with all of the changes we would share everything for expierence sake so we started off with the mussels and baba ghanouj. Personally, I think the baba is the best in town! The mussels were excellent with just the right amount of coconut to add that little extra flavor. For our main courses we decided on the Malabar seafood curry and the Hanger Steak. Trust me we were not disappointed with these decisions. (even though they were not our first choice because of the ""ousted"" items) I had never had Hanger Steak and was greated with a very knowlegable server who was able to answer the questions I had. ( do YOU know why it's called Hanger steak) The dish was absolutely wonderful. It is served with a beef and bulgar wheat stuffed onion! I couldn't have been happier with this dish. The malabar seafood curry was a dance of flavors in my mouth! I loved the way the scallops and the shrimp floated around an island of rice in a sea of curry sauce!! It not only tasted divine it was a beautiful presentation of food! We usually get dessert, but after trying so many wonderful things we didn't have any room! Pros: Great Food! Cons: The host was not very friendly more

Terrible service even when the place was half empty. 2/11/2009

Unique for the area and worth a trip! 1/8/2009

Don't go here expecting a cheap meal. The dishes are very large but also expensive. I would reccomend any of their curry dished as well as their Greek meat dishes. I spent a week in Greece about a year ago and the food was very similar to their ""Greek"" dishes. In response to an earlier reviewer who complained about the lack of spicyness in the Indian dishes, you can ask them to adjust the spicyness higher or lower depending on your tastes. Their Pita and Hummus appetizer is awesome. I like the dishes with shrimp and feta myself. Pros: Traditional Greek dishes and drinks, good location Cons: Not cheap more

Awful Indian Food 9/20/2007

Food was of very poor quality and extremely expensive. Do Not recommend at all. May be decent for Greek part of their cusine but the Indian food copywas below average. more

Mad Greek Cleveland Heights 12/10/2005

aybe whats driving this Greek mad is the fact that half of the menu here is Indian, owing to the origins of the two original owners. And despite the passing of its longtime owner-manager, the restaurant, now in his sons hands, remains one of the best restaurants in the region for both Greek and Indian fare. The new generation has wisely decided not to change the menu, which has stayed satisfyingly consistent over three decades. A popular appetizer here is the Greek saganaki: kaseri cheese fried crisp and delivered to the table flaming. For a quick overview of Greek cuisine, try the mezedakia appetizer for two, a sampler that includes dolmades, spanakopita Greek meatballs and gyros slices with tomatoes and onions, feta cheese, Greek olives and pita. Indian entrees include lamb and spinach curry and shrimp-chicken goa. Desserts run from baklava to American favorites like cheesecake. Pros: Menu Offerings, Atmosphere, Affordable Cons: none really more

Solid. 11/14/2005

Always a great meal here, even if service is spotty at times. The avgolemono soup is WONDERFUL, and as a former ""picky"" eater, that says a lot! This restaurant can be romantic, and can also be a good place for a large group because the structure is divided up into a few different levels, not all on one floor. The greek meatballs are GREAT! Good parking behind the restaurant and on-street parking. Pros: quality food Cons: sometimes, spotty, service more

the best 1/17/2005

I have frequented this place for years. The food is always so fresh, so delicious and arranged so well. And the setting even though it has never changed.....romantic, yet comfortable. And....the fare is so reasonable! more

Last meal 8/21/2002

What a horrible thought, but I've always said if I come to a point where I could I have one last meal, this would be it. The Chicken Maharajah is the best food I've ever eaten. The Pakoras are something not to be missed. Leave the Greek menu alone--experience the Indian!! We live in Akron and will make the drive just to eat, turn around and go back home. I beg the owner for the recipe. Top notch food. Sometimes the service is lacking, but can be overlooked because of the food quality. Pros: Different, Variety Cons: Too far for me, Service is lacking more

Simply Wonderful 7/8/2002

Excellent neighborhood restaurant. Full, unusual menu and wine list. Servings are generous (expect to take some home) served hot and fresh. Wonderful service. Romantic. During summer, sit near the street inside with the windows open and watch the world go by. Pros: Generous Portions, Great Variety, Great Service Cons: Occasionally crowded more
