Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital

We've been taking our 9 year old dog to the Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital since our move from St. Louis, MO in 2003 We boarded our dog there for 10 days there during the 2006 Christmas Holiday season. During that time, we called several times to check on our pet and was told everything was fine. Well no, not really. When we picked our dog up, we noticed he was walking a little gingerly. When we get to the car, we get a good look at his paws, and see several open sores on his rear paws; two of which were the size of dimes. We immediately take him back in to the vet to show the staff and we?re told by a member of the boarding staff, ?Oh these are like bed sores. It happens all the time and they?ll heal up on their own.? We thought this explanation was unacceptable and returned to the Los Feliz Small Animal hospital to see a vet. We believe some one should have seen these lacerations because the dog was bathed and groomed by their grooming department, the day before we picked him up. The attending vet said that the sores were quite serious and could possibly require surgery. Our dog?s hind legs were bandaged. But here?s the kicker?while Los Feliz didn?t charge us for the initial consultation; they charged us a reduced rate for the subsequent appointments for bandage changes. So basically, we were paying for injures that were sustained in boarding departments care. We felt, but for their negligence; our dog would not have been injured. The office manager explained that they would ?only charge us 50%? for the bandage changes. So while we really didn?t want to return to the Los Feliz because of the care of dog received, but we also felt the hospital should compensate us with the appropriate services to treat his injures their boarding service. So back and forth we went, twice a week for 3 weeks and all the while the hospital charged us. Pros: Location, Cons: Customer service policy more

Just had my pup neutered at Los Feliz small animal hospital. I'm a first-time pet owner and they are understanding of my anxiety about the whole process. They didn't try to sell me any unnecessary bloodwork. They were clear about what they would be doing to my pet. Overnight observation was included in the price. I also had them microchip my dog and the total cost for the neuter + microchip was $350. That's pretty standard for vets from what i've researched.\r As per the negative reviews below, my guess is that sometimes people are really defensive about their pets, and can sometimes shoot the messenger if the diagnosis is bad, or expensive.\r Los Feliz Small Animal Hosipital is my vet, and i'm happy with them and they have my trust. more

I too think the previous reviews are a smear campaign. Mostly because the exact same reviews are cut and pasted into judysbook.com and cityguide.com. Anyway, I think they're great. I took my dog in when I found some lumps on his underside. When I went to Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital not only did they check the lumps, but they went above and beyond and asked me about any other problems he was having a gave great advice on how to care for my pup now that he's getting older. Everything from how to choose a good food to help him lose weight to the proper treatment for his arthritis. They were great, and the whole visit took less than a half hour and cost less than $50. I would definitely recommend them to anyone. more

I've been going to this vet for over a year and I'm honestly shocked by all the bad reviews I see here. We have two cats and two dogs, all of whom are seen at this vet regularly. One of the cats has a terminal disease, and two of the other pets have chronic conditions, so we're at the vet a lot. We've seen almost all of the vets and liked all of them. The techs are wonderful, too. We board our dogs there when we travel because the rates are reasonable and the care is good. I can honestly say I have no complaints about this vet and I would recommend them to anyone in the area looking for good care. The techs are wonderful, too. We board our dogs there when we travel because the rates are reasonable and the care is good. I can honestly say I have no complaints about this vet and I would recommend them to anyone in the area looking for good care. As to the client whose dog became incontinent after being spayed, that's not the doctor's fault. Female dogs sometimes become incontinent after spaying because of the hormonal changes in their body when their reproductive organs are removed. It has nothing to do with the surgery itself. My pet has better health insurance than I do! She eats the best dog food available and gets at least two walks a day and is hardly ever alone! To be accused of neglecting my dog is ridiculous. My girlfriend took our cat here when we suspected a bladder infection (she is a Registered Nurse.) She said she was treated very badly from the beginning. She told me the doctor told her that she probably does not take care of the cat and was scolding her. I thought that perhaps she was exaggerating. We take VERY good care of our pet. 6 months later, I brought the cat back when I noticed some peculiar behavior and thought it best to be preventative. I went in and the doctor starts yelling at me. He was terribly accusatory. I just got there and he had nothing to base this on. I was on my way out of town in an hour, so I wanted to leave the cat for observation. He told me (in the first few minutes, after just feeling the cats bladder without doing any tests, and without noticing any irregularity with the bladder) that he might have to operate. I told him to do an observation and run any tests and that he could call and let me know. He started getting rude and that he would not stand by while I was out of town if he had to cut the cat open and have surgery and could not get a hold of me. I got stern and said, "You can at least TRY calling my cell phone, first." He kept talking about surgery and was not going to let the cat suffer because I was out of town. I would have walked out with my cat if I was not on the way to the airport. Anyway, in the end, there was absolutely NOTHING wrong after a two day observation. The bill was $350, that is after I complained about he $500 initial bill. I never ONCE had the impression that they even cared about the pet, or the outcome of the pet. The people I dealt with were rude and bitter and seem to not care about the welfare of the animals. Why suggest probably surgery without any information, testing or observation. I can certainly feel for those whose pets had problems there, but in the 11+ years we've taken our two cats there, we've never had a problem; the cats have never been sick or ill, never had anything knocked out or around, never been any moodier than they are anyway; the staff has always been polite, compassionate, and helpful. We even kenneled our cats there when we had to be out of town for two weeks, and when our building was fumigated (for four days), and never even the slightest problem. I know how much we love our cats, and my heart goes out to those who did encounter problems, but we can certainly enthusiastically recommend this vet. Despite the busy but considerate front desk staff and a couple of good vets who practice out of there, I could not in good faith recommend this establishment to anyone who cares for their pets. During a routine grooming, at the facility where my vet was, my cat had 2 teeth knocked loose. No one noticed. No one took care of her. They sent her home. She had a smear of old blo od on her mouth when I took her home but besides seeming "grumpy" after being at the groomers, she seemed fine and I thought it best to leave her alone. She behaved very strangely over the next couple of hours, lying still and uninterested in any treats or food. Finally, when I picked her up to give her a daily pill, I was horrified to find one of her long canine teeth slanted across her mouth. After a few hours spent at the emergency pet hospital costing $300, my cat required 2 teeth extracted. When I finally spoke to the owner of the LF Small Animal Hospital, she was rude and accusatory insisting that my cat's injuries happened at home. Even though my cat had spent 6 hours there, out of my sight, and 2.5 hours at home sitting in the same spot under my supervision, somehow she was injured at home. Yeah right. I had been going there for years and had recommended the facility to friends but I will never spend another penny there. Older cats can lose their teeth but as the emergency doctor said some sort of trauma was involved. I never asked for money or anything like that; just wanted an explanation. The owner was unwilling to discuss what had happened and blamed me/the cat/the emergency doctor at varying times. Later, as I requested my cat's records, even the employees told me they "weren't surprised" and "didn't blame me" for my decision to never return to have my cat treated there. Pros: not worth it Cons: no parking, no consideration more
