Best

I agree with what's already been said, this man knows his stuff.

Worst

All reviews seem positive

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/1/2014

I do not agree with the other reviewers. First of all, the address is wrong. 411 Thorn St., is just a giant hole in the ground.\r Second of all, this man used to be a good therapist, now he is so busy, he does not have any time to return phone calls or to make appointments, to see people. \r Third, I happen to know he hired someone to write most of these reviews and then made up the names.\r I wish he would go back to being the way he was in 2011. \r Holly J more

***** OMG! What an Awesome Person Arne is, and 9/17/2011

What an awesome experience I had with him! I feel that I actually 'grew up' with him in the time I saw him. I had lots of childhood issues and I always felt 'stuck'. Commitments, self-esteem, making decisions, even finishing college (UCSD) seemed impossible. He's the first person I trusted - though I had to learn to trust me! Arne is the epitome of 'cool'! - from his appearance and his style, to his powerful presence and being (I think he's 'Hot' too! Can I say that?! - I don't want to embarrass him! - LOL! -) But, much more seriously, it's that he 'gets it'. How many do? No one ever got me - not many friends, not family, not previous therapists (most all 'stiffs'). So at about 23 at the time, I didn't expect someone twice my age (46? 47?) to care, much less understand. I will always remember our first meeting - my whole life I couldn't understand myself - and he explained it all, and, had a plan! I thought, ""Where does he come from?!"" Arne 'Knows'. He cares. He is a teacher/My Best! He shares. He's funny. He's intense, but also very relaxed and laid-back. He doesn't seem to take himself too seriously, and not all self-important. He seems definitely to be a person first, who likes what he does! Arne gave me my own wings! And they work! He encouraged me to try them out, and I discovered I could fly! In 2 years I became whole, independent, and 'grown-up'! I know me and love myself -- Thanks to Arne! I'll always be grateful to him and love him for it! (Is it obvious?! - LOL! -) Sue S. more

For Dr. Arne (A Message of Love, Peace and Thanks) 9/6/2011

I often wonder if you know, how many lives you have changed. Each life that you have touched, you have changed for the better. You send people out into the world, so much better for having known you. We are then able to give to others, the love, caring and compassion that you have given to us. In this way your influence grows exponentially. Each person that you touch, touches at least five others. You change habits, you change the cycle. So because of you, love is spread instead of hate. We embrace courage, instead of fear. We use communication, instead of violence. We show each other acceptance, instead of prejudice. We accept ourselves, and change our expectations. Instead of anger, we show each other compassion. You teach us how to be better people. It's not something that can be bought at any store. It can't be learned from books. It's not taught at the most expensive seminars. Tell us - how does one person know all that he knows? You could probably work for big, expensive corporations teaching their executives how to be better with people. Or for government agencies or the court system. You probably could teach doctors and hospitals how to save more of their patients. You would make tons of money in these endeavors. Instead, you have decided to work with: The poor, the abused, the confused, the clueless, the sick, the dying, the unloved, the friendless, and the people who feel unwanted in this world. You give them all a voice. You took us in and made us feel: Rich in love and warmth, accepted in spite of our stubbornness; you turned our confusion into knowledge; you showed us how to make friends (first with ourselves) and made it so, that we finally felt wanted. So, it's no secret how ""rich"" a human being you already are. On this day, we send a lot of love your way and thank you for helping to change the world and make it a better place. Very busy, works very long hours and will work to fit you in 7/13/2011

This is a therapist who works really hard. He will expect you to work hard too. Therapy doesn't work, if the only one who is working at it, is the therapist! You have to work on your issues too. Denial doesn't work, you have to be willing to see that you need to change and to make the changes. I won't lie. It's not easy and it is painful. However, it's even more painful, to keep doing what you're currently doing, if you are sad and depressed. more

The best therapist in San Diego 5/29/2010

You have to meet this man. He listens better than anyone I have ever met. He is warm and compassionate. He can relate to what you are feeling. He understands you, no matter what you're going through. He gives you his full attention. You won't ever find a better listener than Dr. Arne Liss. Pros: He takes his time and really listens to what you have to say Cons: The parking meters. more

Very consistent and reliable 8/2/2008

Arne Liss is a great therapist, not only for me, but for all of his clients. I have spoken to many of them and no one has a bad word to say about him. He works with men and women. He works with people who are fighting for their lives, because they have cancer. He works with their doctors and trys to help them to find therapies that work. If they lose the battle and they are going to die, the family calls Arne and he helps them and the patient get through it. Pros: Caring thoughtful professionals Cons: Difficulty finding parking more

Hard working 4/12/2008

Dr. Liss works very hard to help you work through your issues. But, I have learned from personal experience that if I don't do my work, then I don't accomplish anything. Therapy is a team effort , in order for it to work, you must have a great therapist, but you also need to be willing to work and take risks and use the advice that the therapist gives you. If you don't take his advice and put it into practice in your own life, you're not going to grow and change. You can have the best therapist in the world, but you have to work at your therapy too. If the therapist is doing all of the work, you're not going to grow. Because I have taken risks and taken the doctor's advice, my life has changed. My life has changed so much, it is nothing like it was before. It is so much better than I ever thought it would be. I have changed so much on the inside that those changes show on the outside. Happiness can't be bought, but it can be achieved by working hard with a hard working therapist. Pros: Easy to get to from all of the freeways Cons: Really ugly building more

At first I was skeptical 2/21/2008

How could someone who had never met me, possibly give me good advice? I had been to other therapists. They had told me where to sit. They had taken copious notes and they still didn't know me. Dr. Liss is 100% different. He doesn't take any notes. He has an exceptional memory. He gets to know who you are on the inside. What you look like on the outside, doesn't matter. He gives you unconditional acceptance. I have talked to a few of the other people that see him, they all say the same thing. Their lives have been changed by the work that they did with him. Pros: Friendly, helpful, intelligent people Cons: Expensive parking more

He's not always on time, but he gives you 100% of his time and extra time if he's late. 1/7/2007

Dr. Arne Liss, I saw him for 3 years and 8 months. Sometimes therapy was fun, other times it was very painful. He works very hard, he works long hours and he doesn't charge as much as other therapists. He has been a therapist since 1985, even though he is only 46. He is a very gifted therapist. He gives you his undivided attention and focuses on you and what you're saying. He doesn't tell you what to do but rather others you many options and choices and you decide what works best for you. He does expect you to ""do your work"" to think about and practice what you have learned in therapy. Otherwise you're wasting your time, his time and your money. It is definitely a learning experience. It changed my life, forever. Pros: He is a very good thearpist Cons: Because he is so good, he is in demand and doesn't have many openings available. more

Best therapist I've ever met. 8/17/2006

I've been through a lot in my life and this man has really helped. He also taught me how to not get in my own way. I've seen him for over six years and my life has changed a lot in that time. He's always amenable to working with my crazy schedule and changing and re-scheduling appointments when need be. He is a very busy man, who helps a lot of people. I highly recommend him. Pros: Very warm people Cons: expensive parking meters more

An amazing therapist. 8/11/2006

The best therapist anywhere. He gives new meaning to the words compassionate and patient. He is a very understanding listener. He really cares about his clients. He is extremely intelligent and well-read in psychology. He is very much in demand, and helps his clients whenever he can. He works with men, women, families. He passes no judgements. When it is time for your appointment, he gives you his full attention. It is so rare to find such a caring individual in any profession. I would recommend him to anyone. He certainly has turned my life around. Pros: Very warm Cons: There aren't any. more
