Best new wine bar 4/13/2008

I have to say that the other people commenting are exactly right about this place. It is like the owner knew that we needed an unpretentious, low key place like this. I wish they had one up town too! I ate, I drank, I was instructed and well educated about my selections by the time I left. I wanted to call a friend when I left because I was so excited to have found my perfect new spot. The way they have selected their menu was really well thought out, and it gets updated from time to time. \r I wish it was a bit brighter in there though because everytime I tell someone to meet me down there, they end up walking past it a hundred times. Also I find myself getting a bit sleepy after a drink or too because it is too dim. Other than that, BRAVO!!!! Pros: great menu, well informed staff, nice low key atmosphere Cons: too dark and sometimes the seating gets a bit akward (either less or more chairs) more

Best wine classes 4/11/2008

Not only that the bar is awsome, they have excellent wine classes where you can learn a lot. I took one class Cabarnet vs Merlot; I was impressed of how much I learned there. Also, tasted good wine and good food. Pros: Wine classes more

Downtown's amazing new spot 4/8/2008

This place amazed me the first time I stepped in. Since then I am a returning guest there. It is a wonderful place to visit. First I went there with my girlfriend, which we enjoyed greatly. However, this is one of the few places in the city, where I can go by myself not having to worry to feel uncomfortable. I can have a glass of wine, eat and enjoy the music peacefully after work or at night. I'm so glad this wine bar openned! Pros: This is the place to go after work to have a glass of really good wine! more

Best kept secret in the village 4/7/2008

I have been going to this wine bar since it opened. The cheese (Murray's of course) and wine selections are awesome although I'd like to see more options for wine by the glass. I've introduced many people to Lela and everyone loves it. It is still relatively unknown so you can actually get a seat on a Saturday night which is fantastic.\r N.B.The staff are a little disorganized e.g. I reserved a section of the bar for 30 people on a Friday night and they lost the reservation even though I had called to confirm a couple of days before, but in the end everything was fine and I still recommend this bar to everyone. more

Loved the atmosphere 4/7/2008

Originally I am from England but I live in Manhattan for some time now. I was invited to my friend's birthday party at Lelabar. All I have to say is that this trendy place became my favourite spot since. I love to visit here becauseI feel very comfortable and enjoy having a few glasses of excellent wine, listening to relaxing music not only with company but at times I pop in after work to tune out a bit. Pros: trendy, comfortable atmosphere more

The Hidden Wine Paradise 2/14/2008

I am not the bar type. Beer and sport bars are not for me, and as such, this little neighbourhood hidden spot is the right place for me.Last Saturday, I went to Lelabar to meet a friend that had a birthday, and it end being a wonderful night. We had great food and some ""education"" about the wine we were drinking. The guys behind the bar ""know their S......."". Another thing I liked about the place, was the croud. NO kids....great. Pros: Great job!!! Cons: Get few more chairs (not many more) more

Best bar on Hudson 1/30/2008

I can relax now that I found this bar. I am a serious fan of a good glass of wine, but I usually cannot stand the snobby crowd that goes with the place. I like wine very much, but I am no afficianado, I just like what I like. The bartender Jon was more than helpful and informatiive. I was impressed with not only the selection and refined look of Lela bar, but the atmosphere that acompanied it. Before this, a true wine bar with all the right compliments had not existed. Wine usually makes me a little hungry, so I was floored to have actually fantastic but light food selections that curbed my hunger! I hope this place is around as long as I am in NYC (which will probably be forever). good job!!!! more

At last a wine bar like a wine bar should be 11/6/2007

This is an absolute gem!\r Let's start from the wine list, the knowledge, the unpretentious attitude and freindly service are only the tip of the iceberg.\r This is a must whether you are a neighbor, in the neighborhood, or even if you have to make the trip to this fabulous spot.\r I went there on a date and it was just great we had our privacy yet sat with everyone. The round bar and the interaction with the staff are a rare change to the otherwise alienating service you get from most bars in NYC.\r Well done Lelabar. I wish you success and promise you will be seeing me again. more
