Bad experience at Le Chene the other night. Started out with a gnat in my cocktail, which they quickly replaced..no biggie. Then ordered the ""Lobster Le Chene"", meat of ½ of a lobster tail, on top of a bed of rice and a cream sauce. It had the worst taste to it, like ammonia. Waitress came over and I showed it to her and she smelled it and removed it and asked me to pick out something else. I googled ammonia smell in lobster to find that it means it was spoiled. At the end of the meal the waitress patted me on the back said tonight wasn't my night and handed me a check for the full bill. I asked to speak to a manager and they had said he stepped out.\r \r So next morning I emailed a constructive letter letting them know of my disappointment. I received an email back from Alonso, who I assume is the manager, telling me they cooked the other half of my lobster the next morning and it was fine. \r \r I call bull$#@! more

Delicious food, friendly staff and beautiful environment 11/25/2007

If you're wiling to brave the long drive, this is the absolute best place to go for a fine meal. The food is delicious, I have been here several times and it has never failed to meet all of my tastebud's expectations. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and you can often see the owner dining there or walking around greeting his customers. If it's in your budget or you're celebrating a special night out you must go here. And try the chocolate moose! Pros: Food, parking, service, ambience Cons: Location is a bit far more

recommended with reservations 10/21/2006

when i made the reservation, the receptionist was very unfriendly and robotic. when i inquired if anything special is done to celebrate special occasions she said "" they just send a chocolate mousse cake to the table""...nice?...sounds more like an incovenience than acknowledging a celebration. our server had no personality and approached our table to take our dinner orders only. i had to inform her we wanted cocktails before dinner and then a bottle of wine with our meal. this is more forgiveable if the restaurant was busy but with twenty tables and five servers!?...the food is ok but a bit salty. the food prices are GREAT compared to la prices...straight forward french bistro. the wine list is worth the visit; great deals can be found with some basic wine knowledge. le Pros: extensive wine list with great value outside la, beautiful ambiance, great value Cons: average servers, windows need cleaning more

Worst Dining Experience EVER! 5/13/2006

It turned out that they allowed so many reservations that they had to open up their ballroom dance floor to seat everyone; this is where we were originally seated. The table we were on was one of those roll-out banquet style tables with hard metal chairs that gets stacked. It was almost laughable to think that this was supposed to be a romantic dinner setting. The food was made in mass quantity with the cheapness you would find at a low budget wedding reception. The so called filet minion was nothing more than pot roast slices and gravy. After the snooty host reluctantly switching us to an ""indoor"" table, we finally finished our meal in what will go down in history as the worst Valentine's day dinner in my entire life... oh, did I forget to mention that my bill was over $200, not including wine? STAY AWAY! Pros: Nice waitress, Decent cocktails Cons: Horrible quality food, Horible seating, Overcrowded more

Unbelievable! 4/8/2004

This is, without question, my favorite restuarant in the entier Greater Los Angeles Area. You MUST try this place, even though it is out of the way. The atmosphere is so peaceful. The food is exquisite, easily competing with New York and LA's finest. And the service is impeccable. Try the Bison Ribeye... excellent. I love this place! Pros: Elegant, Delicious Food, Great Value more

A Very Romantic Restaurant 6/27/2003

Le Chene is hidden away on Sierra Highway several miles north of Soledad Canyon. It's a romantic gem with a wonderful selection of interesting foods and great atmosphere. Avoid big holidays; food and service aren't as great as other times. The menu and setting are reminiscent of European restaurants; leave the kids at home and enjoy the romantic surroundings. Pros: Good Food, Romantic, Unique Cuisine Cons: Out-of-the-way, Pricey more
