A positive dining experience 5/16/2011

We were pleased with the menu choices, service, quality and ambiance. Overall positive in every way. Upscale atmosphere, generous helpings and fresh and tasty food at a very fair price. Our waitperson, Luis, was exceptional, and even gave advice on other dining locales to try on our visit to DC. A highlight of our trip. more

Classy Mexican Food Done Right 7/11/2010

While entertaining some out of town friends this past weekend I decided to take them for a more fun girls night only dinner in the Dupont area. I had always heard great things about Lauriol Plaza from other friends but wasn't to sure what to expect. When entering in the multi-level restaurant, including top deck and outdoor seating, I immediately noticed it was a bit classier than I had originally thought. Hoping the menu wouldn't be too much out of my guest's price range I was pleasantly surprised to see $10-$18 entrees. The food was out of this world, and the heaping portions made everything a little bit better. Although they don't take reservations, if you stop in before 6:30 your odds of getting in right away are better than later in the evening as the line was out the door when we left. (a real indicator that its a popular place). My only regret was not getting one of their amazing margaritas! Definitely the first thing I order next time I go! Pros: large portions, inexpensive, upscale decor more

Great Food, Great Margaritas, Fun Atmosphere 7/9/2010

Lauriol Plaza is not the place to go on friday night without a reservation -- the wait can sometimes come in hour increments -- but for good reason. Their food is delicious (I'm particularly fond of some of their seafood entrees), their margaritas are strong, and the people-watching is great. They have a fabulous roof-porch as well. As an ex-Californian, this place doesn't deliver authentic Tex-mex, but keep an open mind and you won't be disappointed. more

Awesome cheese dip 5/26/2010

I come to Lauriol Plaza for the cheese dip and margaritas. Overall, the food is good and comes in HUGE portions. The entrees are so big that I usually end up ordering a bunch of apps instead. The guac is limey, just the way I like it, and the salsa is chunky and fresh. It can get really crowded though, especially during the summer. If you're looking to have a conversation, make sure you ask to sit on the third floor. The margaritas are the big draw for most people because they came in big pitchers for only $12.99, and it can easily serve a table of three. If you like frozen margaritas, you can ask the server to swirl two flavors together. Bonus! Pros: Good Mexican food, great margaritas Cons: Can get very crowded more

Great margs 4/29/2010

Frozen mango margaritas make me happy. Even when it's 40 degrees outside. I think it has something to do with the fact that I was rewarded with Slurpees for scholastic achievement until I was a teenager. I would get straight A's in middle school and be boosted that we could go get Slurpees. It wasn't until high school until I realized that my parents were geniuses. Some kids were being bribed with money, video games, cars and I was responding to Slurpees. So with that morsel of background, you can kind of understand why I love cold and slushy drinks. And of course, tequila is just the added bonus. The frozen margaritas here are awesome! I half pitcher is only $12.99 and you can usually get about 3 full glasses out of it. The margaritas are pretty filling and pack a punch! When the restaurant isn't psychotically crowded, the service is wonderful as well. ?In the winter months, there is usually a pretty short wait for a table compared to the summer months when you may have to wait for an hour or so. If you're just stopping by for drinks or a quick bite, I suggest skipping the bar downstairs and head for the bar on the 3rd floor in the back. People often forget or do not know ?that it exists, so there are usually plenty of stools to sit on. Pros: margs Cons: too many people more

Decent Sports Bar...bad dance club 10/29/2007

Went out Thursday night to watch World Series game...decent sports bar w/ diverse crowd, young & old, black & white, fat & skinny, etc. The sports bar was pretty good, but the back room, which was turned into a dance club this night, was atrocious...fat chicks grinding on each other, vanilla ice looking guys dancing around, etc. I drank a couple of Makers & waters, had a few good laughs at the people stuck in the 90s, and then walked up the street to a better atmosphere. Pros: Sports bar was good Cons: Dance Club in the back was cheesy more
