Best

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles. Excellent soups, including their signature 'caldo de pollo', which is over the top. Their food is always fresh and portion...

Worst

I do like the food at La cabinita & I go to a lot of mexican restaurants!!! I have been there 3 times. So food is not the problem, it's the service, the service really drags this...

Don't believe the HYPE 8/24/2005

I have read many positive reviews and articles about this establishment. I was truly unimpressed and found myself hoping for the dining experience to improve. The location is clean and the wait staff is responsive but that's it. The food is average at best. From the beginning, the chips are unsalted and greasy and the main courses lack any uniqueness. This is the first restaurant I have ever been to that does not have any seafood; not even one shrimp dish. The ""famous"" mole was too sweet and left an after-taste for days. There are other establishments or Mexican ""chains"" that will settle the Mexican food carving in a far superior manner. Pros: wait staff, drinks Cons: no seafood more

Authentic Mexico City Food 8/21/2005

I love this place, it's the closest thing to real Mexican food that I have found in the Montrose/La Canada/La Crescenta Area. The food available never disappoints, Carnitas, Pozole, and Chicken Soup are highly recommended. Portions are generous and well priced. Aguas Frescas are good, recommend all of them (Tamarindo, Horchata, Jamaica). The food here is good, so it attracts a crowd, which might lead to waiting times (that's where the bar comes in) and there is some ambient noise, but it's lively like any real Mexican place should be. PROS: Food, Decor, Service CONS: Crowd more

Favorite Mexican, by far! 7/26/2005

I have been a loyal fan of La Cabanita for many years now. Be sure to try the chuletas en chile pasilla, the most amazing pork chops you'll ever taste, and the green mole is heaven, too. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here, the waiters are very friendly and always remember me. Great margaritas, too! Pros: food, drinks, service Cons: sometimes loud more

Good Mexican food. Great atmosphere. Killer margaritas. more

Our neighborhood secret 10/21/2002

i hate to let every in on our secret, because La Cabanita gets crowded enough, but this place is special. The moles are terrific, complex flavors and smooth texture. Service is very friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable. Pros: cozy, good service, great food more

Simply the BEST! 9/22/2002

Since moving to LA from the South, my wife and I have had a hard time finding quality Mexican food of the ""non-baja fresh"" variety. La Cabinita is, bar none, the best Mexican restaurant in LA. Tucked away in the Montrose/Glendale border...it offers Mexico City style cuisine. The Sopes Compuestos is an amazing dish and the Chiles en Nogada is simply incredible. The atmosphere is laid back and comfortable...and much improved since the recent expansion. Service is always good, and a waiter named ""Louise"" is always extra friendly and helpful. Don't miss the wonderful breakfasts, too!! Pros: great food, great service, did I say great food? Cons: possible wait, no reservations more

Absolutely the best mexican food in CA 9/13/2002

La Cabanita is without a doubt the best mexican restaurant in LA! It's a little hard to find, but worth the look. They've expanded now so the wait isn't as bad as it used to be...and the food is AWESOME. Try the Chiles a la Cabanita, poblano peppers stuffed with a mixture of chicken, ground yellow raisins, and other yummy stuff. On cold days the Caldo de Pollo is the best chicken soup around. And their Mole sauce is amazing. Once you try their flaky homemade chips you'll be disappointed by all the other restaurant's store bought versions! Pros: Amazing food, good value, broad, original menu Cons: sometimes a wait, street parking more

Food Well Worth Waiting For 7/26/2002

So it's a bit of a wait to get in...The Food is Worth It Try the tacos con rasa con crema (homemade tortillas on top, a smooth cheesy creamy filling mixed with onions, and black beans over a pepper), the chicken mole and drink the excellent sangria. Be warned: its a small place thats really popular and everything is made fresh so be prepared to wait. Pros: great food, inimate, inexpensive Cons: small, may have to wait more

Small place....great food and 6/28/2002

good Sangria. Not sure how long this place has been here but we have been coming since my daughter's were small (they're 25+ now). The food is made fresh daily and their black beans and rice are excellent. I like so many things on the menu that I can't tell you my favorite. My daughter's enjoy the Marguerita's but a pitcher of Sangria is what I order. Pros: Excellent food, Parking okay more
