OMG The Best Sushi I've ever had 5/7/2008

OMG! I went to Kuni's with my sister and cousin and i loved the place. I love the fish and salad dressing is something else. It's much better than other restaurants i've been to . The food was well prepared, the service was excellent. I will probably end up going often. Compared to other high end sushi restaurants Kuni's i think is the most reasonably priced for the quality. Pros: Great decor, Awesome fish Cons: Parking? more

BETTER TRY THIS!!!!!!!!!! 5/5/2008

when i first got in, i was impressed the way how everything was located in this restaurant. as soon as i walked in, i saw chefs cooking. because i was so interested in Japanese foods, i sat right at the bar in front of the chef Kuni-san. i was waiting for chef to make me some fresh sushi, Kuni-san started to talk to me and i thought that was very nice of me. because i was alone and i felt like i was with my friend. the food was out and OMG!!!!! the food was extremely fresh and delicious!!!!!!!! i was very surprised with the taste because I've been to many sushi places and I've never tasted something like today!!! Amazing!!!!!!! I'm coming back this Sunday with my parents for Mother's DAY~~ !! you should definitely try some if you love sushi or Japanese food~!!! more

KINg OF KING!! 5/3/2008

KUNI'S SUSHI PLACE IS THE MOST FABULOUS JAPANESE RESTAURANT I'VE EVER BEEN TO!!! I WENT WITH MY FRIENDS FOR DINNER AND I THOUGHT I SHOULD RE-VISIT THIS PLACE WITH MY PARENTS ON MOTHER'S DAY FOR SURE!! THE FOOD WAS EXTRA FRESH AND THE SERVERS WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND THEY KNEW EVERY THING THAT I ASKED ABOUT THE FOOD. I'M DEFINITELY BRINGING MORE FRIENDS TO KUNI'S RESTAURANT TO INTRODUCE THE AWESOMEST SUSHI THAT NO ONE CAN MAKE BUT CHEFS IN THE RESTAURANT... I JUST WANTS MY FRIENDS TO TRY WHAT I'VE TASTED~~ I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU ALL TO VISIT THIS RESTAURANT!!! more

Great Sushi! 5/2/2008

I was driving around Evanston with my friends and of course we were hungry. Stopped by Kuni's on Monday. This place is great. The sushi/sashimi was delicious. I love their miso soup and toro is amazing. I've never had Boston Tuna (make sure you try that) that melted in my mouth with such flavor before and I've eaten sushi at many other places (Bentonara, Blu, etc.) and Kuni's is way up on my list. Can't wait to go again next week with my sister and cousin, aji is his favorite so i can't wait. Pros: Good sushi, green tea ice cream, traditional atmosphere more

Love Love Love the place 5/2/2008

Kuni's restaurant is another great place to visit in Chicagoland. When my son visits, we eat sushi at least once. Three times we've dined at Kuni's and other times we've dined at Tsunami . The last time he came we ate at Kuni's, which was better than Tsunami . The sushi was obviously fresh and well prepared, the edamame were delicious, and the sushi chef was friendly. The restaurant and Sushi Bar both are clean and attractive. For sushi lovers, there is a complete sushi bar where you can sit and watch chefs make your orders right in front of you. The chefs are very skilled and friendly. more

DO NOT GO DO NOT GO!!! 4/30/2008

DO NOT GO HERE!! My husband and another couple dined here on Sat night. My husband and friend both got very sick. My husband was hospitalized and my friend nearly hospitalized. My husband and friend had the same meal and both fell ill at the same time. We called Kuni to let them know and they were absolutely AWFUL. They yelled at us and accused us of drinking too much (when we literally had nothing to drink). Furthermore, the food was not good that night - I did not get sick, but did not enjoy my meal (I had the Omakase) It did not taste fresh and I left pieces uneaten (which I never do). I can't warn you enough to please stay away from place - go into Chicago (Coast is wonderful) or try Kansaku or Blu Lounge in Evanston - Sashimi Sashimi is also good for a much more casual meal. Just had to share! Cons: Both Friend and husband were in hospital after eating food more

Homamonya!! For true sushi lover... 5/18/2006

Kuni's sushi is the best in Chicago for sure!!! It not a fancy sushi place as new trendy sushi joints coming up. This is very Traditional and high quality sushi. If you ask for rainbow roll, he will kick you out the door!! Kidding.. He is very nice. The quality of the fish is exceptional because it is hand selected, treated/cut by Kuni-san himself. It is tough to find such a quality fish even in Japan. He is the best!! If you are looking for quality suishi, this is the place. If you are looking for trendy fake sushi, go elsewhere... Because Kuni-san can get overloaded, service can ran slow on peak time but it is worth waiting for that Hamachi melts in your cheek. Pros: Best quality fish, true sushi Cons: Decor, service, variety more

The best sushi in all of chicago 3/8/2005

Kuni's is the best sushi I've ever tasted. The fish is always delightfully fresh. I came here first with my mom when I was thirteen and have been coming back ever since. There is no restaurant with food as delicious as Kuni's (I've tried). There is also no comparison to the warm friendly atmosphere in the restaurant, perfect for family dinners. My favorite appetizer is the soft shell crabbed with this amazing sauce. Kuni-san is a expert at making completely original foods with a traditional flare. Pros: Great Food, Friendly Service, Fresh Sushi more

Quality sushi 7/11/2004

Real sushi, properly sized, fresh flavors. Not trendy or producing those oversized silly maki rolls being made around the city. Real quality here. Pros: fresh sushi more

Best sushi in Chicago 4/23/2003

Kuni-san is a master at preparing sushi. I have been coming here since 1992 and Kuni's is still the best sushi restaurant in Chicago for me. Great sushi and sashimi, and a good selection of traditional Japanese items for lunch and dinner. Good value and worth the trip to Evanston. Only drawback - service can get a bit slow on weekends if crowded. Pros: Great sushi, Good value, Traditional Japanese Cons: Service can be slow, Parking more

Kuni is among the best sushi men in Chicago. He knows his fish and his customers. He always uses the best and freshest fish and he understands Kaiseiki. His teriyaki sauces are self made and the best. Thank you for reading and enjoy. tell him jim crill sent you. Pros: excellent food, excellent service, pleasant atmosphere Cons: parking hard to find, a little expensive more

debkauz 8/9/2002

Anyone who doesn't think this is the BEST sushi in the Chicago area doesn't know sushi! It's authentic and real as opposed to many of the new sushi restaurants in Chicago. Try it--you'll never go back to anywhere else. Pros: good, better, best Cons: none, none, none more
