Good Eats! 8/27/2006

I went to Krystal's for the first time on Sat. night. This was my first time eating Filipino food and I definitely think it was a great experience. Unlike what the previous reviewer experienced, my party of 8 received excellent service all throughout the night. Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately greeted and directed upstairs where there is more seating. The waiter promptly took our order and the food came out quickly. We had all our silverware right from the start. Even though we all ordered drinks, they bought us water in case we wanted it. The food was delicious and cheap. It came out to $15 a person including tax & tip -- the meal consisting of appetizer, entree, drink, and dessert. Everyone walked out full so the portion is good -- and believe me, we can eat! Extras included the big screen tv where the Filipino Channel was airing a game show. After 10pm, there's open mic karaoke. The only negative I can point out is that we had to go downstairs to order our dessert from the bakery. They don't have a dessert menu as part of the restaurant, but it was all good. One of us just bought it from the bakery downstairs and we ate it at our table upstairs. And Filipino dessert is sooo good. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. I will definitely go again. Pros: Budget eating; delicious food; good service; fun atmosphere Cons: Window w/ no curtains/blinds in girl's bathroom got me paranoid when I was doing my business more

WORST SERVICE YOU CAN EVER ENCOUNTER.... 8/13/2006

This was the worst restaurant experience that i have ever encountered. Not only was the service terrible, but the food was far too expensive for the amount that they serve you. When I first arrived here, so many of my friends told me that the ""best"" food was here. They told me that it was ""home, away from home"". Well, they were wrong. When we went there this past Friday (first time), we were not greeted at all by anyone. There was no hostess or person in the front to even ask what we were waiting for. The sad part was that there were 6 people at the front counter and 3 right in front of us. To add insult, when we were finally seated (30 minutes later and 6 tables available on the 2nd floor), the water took our order, but did not even offer to give us silverware to eat our food. We had to ask 5x before someone finally came to give us. If I only did not want to embarrass myself, I would have probably went to the kitchen or area where they have the utensils and gotten it myself. Finally the food came (20 minutes later). We were a party of 6, so we ordered Beef Stew (bulalo), Mongo Bean Soup (mongo), Grilled Pork Belly (inihaw na baboy), Grilled Squid (inihaw na pusit), Sisig (mixed pork intestine), and softdrinks (coke, diet coke, and sprite). Again, no bowls were even offered to put the soup in. What do you think happened next? I finally gave in and flipped. I could not get over the service at this restaurant and complained to the supervisor how lousy their service was. NO MATTER WHY THE BRANCH IN THE CITY CLOSED DOWN!!! Pros: decent bakery.... Cons: high priced, terrible service, go -go bar atmosphere more

Nice Filipino Hang out 3/28/2006

Nice place to hang out and grab some pinoy snacks. Try their Sans Rival..It's wonderful. more

Pinoy Indeed 8/14/2003

The food is close to typical Filipino food in comparison to establishments in Manhattan. Pretty cheap as well. The only problem is that whenever it gets too busy, the wait for the food is really really long, and sometimes the waiters can get grouchy. A lot of seating though, especially upstairs where one can watch Filipino shows on a big screen or on several tv monitors throughout the floor. Staff members speak Tagalog fluently too, so it makes the atmosphere more authentically Pinoy (Filipino)! Pros: Authentic Food, Inexpensive Cons: Inconsistent Service more
