Great Indian Cuisine 5/14/2012

My wife and I hadn't been to Khajuraho since it came under new management. We decided to take a chance and see what has changed. The restaurant hasn't changed; but the food certainly has! We both tried different specials and we were both completely satisfied with the quality of our meals. The food was seasoned perfectly and the service was terrific. We've definitely put this restaurant back on the top of our list for Indian cuisine. more

Dirty! 4/15/2012

I love Indian food, but am sorry to say that this restaurant is something you migt want to avoid. The food is tasteless, greesy. The service is ok, except that the waiters are not fluent in English. But the appearence of the place is unacceptable! THe door to the bathroom originally painted white is black! It is a filthiest site I have ever seen in a restuarant. A real shocker! I don't dare to imagine what their kitchen might look like.... DO NOT RECOMMEND IT! more

GREAT FOOD/NEW EXPERIENCE!!! 3/23/2012

I had my first experience with Indian cuisine at Khajuraho and I was thoroughly delighted with the food, menu selection, and service. The Shrimp Saagwala was fabulous and my dessert sampling of Gulab Jamen and Kheer was so unusual and delicious. The owner, Shahid and his brother, Shafi were so accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant for those new to Indian cuisine, as well as the connoisseur. I will be returning. more

Very good Indian food - 5 Star Rating 2/10/2012

We went there last night and had a wonderful dinner. My husband and I shared 2 dishes and an appetizer. We were delighted. The owner and chef were very helpful with our selections. They repeatedly checked on us. We hadn't been there in a while. We heard there was a new owner and chef. So glad we went!! more

Simply the Best! 9/20/2011

Khajuraho is not only the best Indian food in the Philadelphia area, it is by far one of the best Indian restaurants in the nation and possibly the world (I am an AVID Indian food connoisseur and have been for most of my existence). They have consistently, month after month, year after year, come through with excellent dishes along with fantastic and authentic service. At one point, a friend of mine and I actually frequented the place at a minimum of once per week for about a year. We became ""regulars"" and the handful of Indian waiters even knew our orders by the time we both moved out of the area. As far as the food goes, being a vegetarian, Indian cuisine gives me many more options than, let's say, American ""cuisine"". I almost ALWAYS get the Vegetable Korma extra spicy (I need to cry at least once while eating my Indian!). It is a great mix of veggies and they always make it perfectly spicy for me and the Roti is always piping hot and fluffy (no pita here!). The mango lassis here are also to die for. All in all, the ingredients always seem fresh and authentic - which I find to be crucial in any Indian restaurant. If you get a chance, I'd recommend coming to the buffet as it is great food for all you can eat at an reasonable price. Anyway, before I ramble on too much about how awesome and delicious this place is, go check it out for yourself and I dare you to come back with a bad review! I will hold myself personally accountable... more

Great Service, Exquisite Food 9/20/2011

Great Indian food and really friendly staff. The decor and background music were pleasant but not overwhelming, and the cuisine was reasonably priced for their portions. It's great to go with a group so that you can try out many different dishes, family style - boo to those who hoard their entrees. Their lunch specials are also pretty good. Most definitely recommend and despite others and there experiences Khajuraho is worth trying and judging for your self. My family and I are in love with this restaurant. Can't wait to go back again with more family and friends. more

Shady practices, expensive, and mediocre food. 9/18/2011

Food was average, portions small, and came out only moderately heated even though there were only 2 other 2-tops seated in the entire restaurant. Bathroom was dirty. but the worst part was the surprise mandatory ""tipping"" policy. I used a groupon for my meal and was prepared to leave a 20% tip on the full (pre-discount) amount as I normally do. As soon as the waiter saw the groupon, he announced that there was a 20% service charge required for all groupon meals. When the check arrived, I saw that they had not only added the 20% service charge but they had also collected additional sales tax on the service charge, making the actual service charge 27% instead of 20%. Since the total bill was only about $50, the difference between 20% and 27% was less than a dollar, but the shady practice (and mediocre food) left a bad taste in my mouth. The place was empty tonight and I overheard the waiter mentioning to a different table that they were keeping ownership the same but changing the name in the near future. Tiffin is cheaper, has a nicer atmosphere, and is much, much friendlier. more

A weird expierence 9/6/2011

I saw their sign for a $7.99 lunch buffet and thought it sounded like a good deal. It was a little late, 1:15pm for lunch. When I walked in I was the only person in the restaurant and the waiter seated me and went to stir up the buffet items. The rice was like eating nuts, it clearly had been sitting out a long time and was hard and crunchy. Every item seemed to have been sitting long as it had a film over it. One fried item was coated in grease. The naan was not fresh and also was greasy. I found two out of the ten items that I would call worth trying. The tandori chicken was okay, certainly not great. The worst part was trying find a waiter to order a soda. I just sat all meal in this empty room. Nobody came by to check on me and I could not find an employee to be seen. During the meal a fight broke out in the other side of the restaurant and there was loud yelling. I started feeling like I should leave as it started to sound violent! I quickly ate the few items and wanted to leave. It took me ten minutes to find an employee to write me a check. I opened the kitchen and yelled in and finally an employee emerged. It was not a place I would return to! more

Not so hot. 8/18/2011

Went here years ago when they first opened and was not impressed. When I saw the sign that it was under new management with an $8 lunch buffet, I thought I would give it a try. Now, my purpose for the buffet was that I wanted to try a variety of Indian food. I am a good cook and very interested in learning about new foods. I have worked at home with some excellent Indian cookbooks, but what I needed was a good frame of reference. I thought this buffet might be a good help. I was wrong. The selection was distinctly Americanized and created for economy. The salad. Nothing more than you would find at Wendy's buffet. On the side were a few condiments but the attendant offered little as to their use. The main table. Fried vegetables. Basmati rice. Chickem with some onions and other vegetables. Chicken in a bland red sauce something like a dead Tiki Masala. Mixed vegetables that looked and tastes like a can of vegetable soup. Flat spinach and potatoes. Another dish of peas that came fresh from the can. Dessert - some kind of tapioca pudding. Now, for $10 -considering tax and tip - it was not a horror. But, it certainly taught me nothing about Indian food. The closest thing to a spice was the taste of a can from the peas. You may as well go to the Tiffin chain restaurants. Sorry state of affairs. more

Extremely over-priced and just not worth it! 8/24/2010

I adore Indian food, and I am probably spoiled by my beloved Minar Palace in Center City Philly, but this place in Ardmore was a huge letdown. The shabby ambiance (erotic Hindu statuary, and framed photos of more of the same notwithstanding), beaten-up serving utensils, and dingy bathrooms did not jibe with the $15-$19 per entree a la carte pricing. Pay additional to have a dish of raita?!? My favorite aspect of the richly decorated menus was the several layers of pasted-on price stickers, revealing how many times the prices had been raised since the original printing of the lovely menus. The food was tasty, although I would argue with some of the choices, and certainly believe that some high-sodium cheating was going on - MSG, anyone? more

Great Experience 12/8/2009

I think this restaurant has delicious Indian food and outstanding Service around philly burbs. I am fully satisfied, more than me my family was happy for suggesting them this restaurant Pros: Best Chicken Tikka Masala Cons: cant think of one more

Best Food Ever 12/4/2009

This is my first visit to Khajuraho with family and friends was excellent. Luved the food. Rite from the Appetizer till the desert was excellent, as i have tried a lot of different Indian restaurant many places and found this place which i was looking from years. The staff and Atmosphere was very friendly. Recommended to Everybody Pros: Extra Ordinary Service and Quality Cons: n/a more

total rip-off 7/21/2009

Khajuraho has a great atmosphere and well-seasoned food, but it is way over-priced for what you get. My fiance and I each got an entree and naan bread, nothing to drink, and it came to $55. Each table only gets one tiny bowl of rice to share. We wouldn't go back here again.. for the same quality and quantity, we could eat elsewhere for much much less. Pros: good indian food Cons: over-priced, stingy service more

BEST Indian On the MAIN Line 2/25/2009

I fell in love with this place when I worked down the street and could spend a relaxing, hour long lunch break with my Weekend lunch special. Seriously, my dessert Kheer, all time favorite meal might just be hot and Chicken Tikka Masala, a Mango Lassi, and palak paneer. On top of the excellent food and prices, the place is a legitimately nice restaurant. Went their for Dinner on Thursday night with my wife and kids and food was great as usual and excellent service was provided for me and my family The decor, staff, and atmosphere are all great. \r \r more

worse indian food ever 11/11/2008

I must say, I really enjoy Indian food even though I'm not one. This is probably not the best place to eat at. \r They are so cheap with their chicken and plus it was overprice. The portion was so small and plus for some reason I had to run to the loo, honest. I wouldn't recommend anyone goin there if they care about their digestive system, take my advice, you'll thank me later. more

Very dissapointing 8/15/2008

We decided to do try out this restaurant on Friday night, but having small kids the only option was take out.Our food was ready on time, but that was the only good thing. The look of our food was rather disapointing. It look very unapetizing,we had the mix tandoory which was very dry,the tandory shrimp was spicy but tastless. The Buriany chicken was very spicy and dry too.It look that they compensate the lack of cooking skils with over spicing their food. For the quality of the food it was way overpriced. We have had a Indian food before and I have to agree that even Trader Joe's indian fare taste better.I would not recomend this restaurant, very dissapointing. more

Better than any Indian food I've had! 10/24/2007

I'm not sure why so many people have had bad experiences at this great gem of a Main Line restaurant. I went to college on the Main Line and so have been going to Khajuraho since 2002. Every time I've been, the food has been delicious. The service is sometimes a bit off, but at least they don't complain about the management in front of the customers! (I have had this happen SO many places and I really hate it.) Their chicken tikka masala is delicious, and the meat is never dry nor stringy. The rice is awesome. The samosas are pretty good; I'm not really a fan of samosas in general. They use fresh mango in their lassis, according to the waiter last time I was there. The chicken korma and lamb saag are also both really good. Their naan is sometimes a bit oily but I don't eat much of that anyway. The only complaints I have are that the service is sometimes off and that they give tiny tiny glasses for wine. They ARE really really good about re-filling water glasses, and they have that soft little ice that I love. Pros: delicious food, easy parking, byob Cons: tiny wine glasses, service iffy more
