So-so food, great service 10/26/2007

We had dinner for two on a Wednesday night, and you can tell this place is popular as it was totally packed. We shared the Tuna Tartare to start. I had the Mahi Mahi. And my date had the Kobe steak. We shared the cinnamon sweet potato dessert with ice cream and chocolate sauce. Overall, the food was okay. It's certainly lots better than fast food, and about on par with mom's home cooking. But it wasn't anything above and beyond considering the price. The service however was fantastic, from the moment we arrived with a friendly greeting and immediate on-time reserverations seating, to the sommelier coming by prior to ordering to see if we needed help. The waiter checked in regularly, but not too often. Even the ""complimentary drinks"" cart person came by. Decor was nice, though the tables were too close for the date comfort. And the bench chairs were uncomfortable. All in all, a nice night out. The total bill with 3 courses and a few $20 glasses of wine was $180 (with tip). more

Down to earth good times! 10/17/2007

Wow, lots of haters on here! I'm the first to tell ya if things aren't good, but I had an awsome night! It was my first night at Ketchup and I'm coming back! I'll break it down...the decor was very cool with an open window view of the hills, great classic rock music, scallops were deliciously tender, server was professional and fun, managers were attentive and it was a great start to the night! The only problem I had was that I ate too much. The mac and cheese with crab and truffle oil will be my demise! The worst part about this place is that it's so far from Marina del Rey! HATE that! Good times, ROCK OUT! Pros: fun energy and food more

Trendy but fun 10/8/2007

I took friends from out of town here and we had a blast. The food was great and there is free shots- can't really beat that. Great for dinner before going out! Pros: atmosphere, food, drinks Cons: crowded, don't recognize reservations more

It's Alright..... 10/4/2007

We went last Sunday night for my husbands birthday. $10 parking was bad, but i've paid that before. We went on a day where the food was 1/2 off. I am glad we did. The drinks were OK...Monarchy was really good, the lobster lettuce wraps were OK, the kobe beef my husbad and I ordered was actually really good. However, at $40 REGULAR PRICE...I am SOOO glad we went on 1/2 off night. We love going to new trendy restaurants, so we were glad to try this, but I don't think it's a place we'd jump to go to again. If you live close, it's not so bad though. We don't. Prefer Geisha House...another restaurant from the Dolce group. Pros: Main dishes, music, open window that turns restaurant into balcony type Cons: Martinis, small boring bar, flight of stairs leading up to restaurant, tiny bathrooms more

Ketchup, I felt like a kid again 10/3/2007

I have eaten at Ketchup several times and have to say my experience was Great! Although, I do agree when it first opened it had the feel of a new restaurant where things weren?t on point but I have enjoyed myself these last few times I?ve gone. The vibe was Amazing and the food, well I felt like a kid again. The restaurant isn?t meant for people that can?t afford to eat there and the atmosphere after 10pm is like any other West Hollywood restaurant. People in Los Angeles love to go out, eat great food and socialize, especially young Hollywood. Ketchup isn?t your first date kind of place if you?re looking to impress a girl, but if you?re what most women want, you know a man with personality, trust me Ketchup can do the rest for you. Pros: It wasn't your typical Hollywood Restaurant Cons: Parking more

the waiter made our night........ 9/27/2007

Went to Ketchup on a Saturday night w/a reservation. we were seated immediately and greeted by a very friendly/cute waiter. he welcomed us and treated us like gold. brought us drinks quickly while having fun conversation with us. i was suprised at the menu, they had a good mix of fun food along w/comfort food to try. We had the scallops, chicken and mahi mahi, all were GREAT! the place was busy w/a loud happy vibe. the drinks were very good, especially the vodka/champagne shots that a girl comes around with on a cart. they are made right in front of you. that was fun and they were REALLY good! all in all i wld def go back for a place to get a bite before hitting the town. Pros: good atmosphere, good drinks more

SO hollywood... wannabe's everywhere 9/26/2007

believe it or not, i actually thought the service was above par. after reading all these reviews, i went expecting nothing. we were in a party of 10 on a tuesday night and while it was still pretty crowded and happening, our server was pretty attentive, a guy in a suit (manager?) checked up on our party a few times, and i was pleasantly surprised by the level of service. Pros: unique experience or not, we had a very attentive waitress Cons: overpriced mediocre food more

How do you F-up Comfort food? 9/24/2007

I went to Ketchup with a group of 8 people. We had reservations for 8, but were seated at a table that should not have seated more than 6, max. Our group ordered several appetizers, which all seemed bland. The Onion Rings were decent though. When it was time for the main courses, they were spread out over a ten minute period with only a couple coming out of the kitchen at a time. The biggest problem I had with Ketchup was that my chicken was way undercooked, raw on the inside. The space is very loud, and the red lighting isn't friendly to the stressed out looks on the faces of the staff. I can't wait for this place to run it's course so I can try whatever comes in to replace it. Come on LA, you deserve better! Pros: Clean bathrooms, occaisional star-sighting Cons: bad food and service more

Catsup, Ketchup, Catsup, Ketchup... 8/31/2007

Great food, fun atmosphere, prompt service, and Hef and his bunnies seated next to us all in one night. Can't ask for much more. Pros: Fun, good food, good service Cons: Had to ask for Ketchup! more

Wanna...""Ketchup"" ?? 8/14/2007

My Girlfriends and I went to Ketchup last Friday for dinner. The food and service were great ! the general manager (tall guy loosing his hair ;-) ) was spending more time on his cellphone than doing his job! Pros: atmosphere, food, service Cons: no more cell phone for the general manager! more

Great concept. Disappointing execution... 8/11/2007

I really wanted to like this place. My kind of menu. Hearty, comfy and all business. Great views, pretty interior design and lighting. Pros: View, interiors, location Cons: Food, drinks, prices more

Ketchup anyone? 8/10/2007

The starters were good and the cocktail samples were great. My biggest complaint is that when the entrees came (with fries of course) I had to actually ASK FOR KETCHUP! The place is called Ketchup and I had to track down a waiter to bring some to the table. Pros: Nice decor, good concept Cons: Loud, couldn't get any ketchup more

Great customer service 8/2/2007

I am from Switzerland and my wife and I visited Ketchup last saturday, we wanted to try typical american food. Pros: Cart Girl, international management, lighting Cons: Tuna Tartare more

fun, unique environment, bad food 7/21/2007

Went to ketchup last night with a friend from work and our significant others. I chose Ketchup mainly because it would be equidistant between the two of our neighborhoods. Pros: atmosphere, views, drinks Cons: food, prices more

Great atmosphere, best service, yummy drinks.... 7/19/2007

I read about Ketchup in a magazine that came with the LA Times on a Sunday. I knew i had to try it at least once. I made a reservation (not needed for 7pm on a wednesday night). We were seated by the open air window and ordered some drinks. In addition we were given ""birthday shots"". The drinks are good because they are not made too sweet. Even the Yoohoo drinks are great.....light and refreshing. We only ordered off the appetizer menu as we wanted to taste and not be stuck with a 20 dollar item. We got the Kobe beef BLT burgers, the kobe beef barking dogs, lobster wraps and the vidalia onion rings. The onion rings are the best I have ever had....mixed with the maple ketchup....so goooooood!!!! Definatley a must order....!!!! As far as the rest, the sliders were good but the ones from Claim Jumpers are tastier. For Kobe beef it was dry..... Pros: Vidalia Onion Rings, Mixed drinks, service, atmosphere Cons: parking more

Ketchup gives American cuisine something to be PROUD of! 7/17/2007

I've read a couple of reviews about Ketchup, and I won't lie, they made me hesitate trying the new trendy Hollywood hot spot. But because it is also owned by the same people who have the Geisha House and Dolce restaurant, I had to give them the benefit of the doubt... and I'm glad I did! I was not at all surprised at the over-the-top excellence I have seen at the other restaurants. The staff were great-- very friendly and very efficient. The decor was electric and extremely hip. It made me feel young! The appetizers were a bit large, but I was grateful because most restaurants seem to have disappointingly small appetizer portions for large groups. The five flavors of ketchup were very tastey and it was fun to see which flavor went with what appetizer. Ketchup is a very original take on traditional American barbeque, and it was nice to see such refreshing creativity in the restaurant scene. Pros: delicious American food!! who knew?! Cons: so many ketchup choices, so little time! more

Mini everything and movie themed 6/30/2007

Found metered parking $2 for two hours how sweet is that! Of course this was early like 7-ish. Pretty creative decor, but total ketchup and tomato overload. Open window view of the Hollywood Hills is gorgeous.Hostess downstairs with the blue eyes also gorgeous! Food mediocre-Onion rings-bland, mini tacos-really good, sweet tator tots-different, but I liked them my friends didn't, mini burgers and hot dogs-ok. Drinks definitely too expensive at $12. Waitress forgot to bring our bread in the beginning so we asked for it at the end-Dijon Mustard is soooo nasty. Our dessert (brownie sundae-yummy) was complimentary since there was a a piece of wrapper left inside. Our waitress spilled water but she was very sorry and nice about it. Bathroom decor is pretty funky too, reminded me of an airplane and so did the walking bar tender with the cart. Creative spot though. I was sitting on the edge and kept getting kicked. Good experience but be prepared for mini food for a semi-big price. We had a 15% discount since my friend has a special card which you can use at the Dolce Group restaurants so that helped. Pros: creative ambiance, friendly staff, fast service, location, view Cons: price, mini sizes more

Food - Just ok 6/26/2007

My husband and I visited Ketchup this past weekend when an out of town friend came to visit. We were promptly seated with our reservation. The atmosphere is modern and we had the good fortune of having an extremely bubbly, friendly server. We enjoyed each others company and the wait staff, but the food was mediocre. The steak was chewy and overpriced, the pistachio encrusted chicken was burned and dry, salmon was okay. For appetizer we received the onion tower - pretty good and the seared tuna - cubed, no flavor and served with nearly burned chips. The ketchup flavors all had a vinegary flavor to them, mango was the best. I may go back to visit the lounge area, but never to eat again. more

This is a HOT SPOT!!! 6/20/2007

Food was amazing, staff is hot as hell and great at what they do. Chef must be crazy! Kobe Hot dogs and Kobe Sloppy Joes? Never seen anything like that menu. Highly reccomend it! more

great place to come with friends 6/17/2007

A group of friends and I went to ketchup to celebrate my 21st birthday. The place is great for a young crowd. Loud music playing, and its ok to be loud and rowdy. The drinks were simple and tasty. The service was great, and our waitress, cant complain about her. She was always around making sure everything was ok, and didnt over do it. The food was ok, not the best but well worth it for the price. Would recommend the mac n' cheese and kobe burgers, and of course the ketchup fries. The portions are big, and enough to share with someone else. Since it was my birthday, we got two rounds of shots on the house, which I thought was pretty nice of them to do because it was a party of 9. If youre not looking to go out for food, the lounge is a great place as well. The only thing I would have to complain about is the lighting. A little too dark and red for my taste, but overall a good place. Pros: drinks, location, music Cons: lighting more
