Kayak's Coffee & Provisions

Basically, this place is fine for those who have low standards or for those who are just plain desperate. The counter help/baristas are self-impressed to the point of distraction. Have you ever gone to a cafe where it's the customer's responsibility to make sure their coffee is made after paying for it? No? Then you haven't been to Kayak's! Pros: decor? Cons: Service more

There are so many problems with Kayaks, I don't even know where to start. I was an employee there, and I know the management is pathetic. There are no cleanliness standards, and I wouldn't be surprised if you tasted bleach in your coffee drink. The workers preparing food rarely wore gloves or washed their hands. Kayaks charges Starbucks prices for much lower quality beverages. There were insect problems when I worked there. Many people come into Kayaks and don't make any purchases. Instead, they just fill up all the space in the seating area and lounge for hours. The employees clean the bathroom about once a day, so there would always be toilet paper and mess all over the floors in the bathrooms. I never once saw the owner come into the place when I worked there. None of the baristas were ever trained properly on how to make drinks. I was taught to ""make it the way you would like it."" The coffee they brew sits there for hours, so you'll likely get a stale, burnt tasting cup of coffee. Overall, I would say it's a good place to sit around and waste time, but I would not recommend eating or drinking anything from this dirty coffee shack. Although I love the service at the Brentwood location, the staff on Skinker are downright rude. It seems it is more important that the staff gets the place closed down on time, than to actually have happy customers. On a recent Sunday night, I was desperately in need of a hot drink and some time on the laptop. I was sold the drink, but at 9:15 was asked to move into another room so they could begin closing down. He was chagrined when I informed him the other room was full, so reluctantly he let me sit, alone, in the closed off room. Two other employees buzzed by to let me know that they close at 10. I was quite aware. \r So, I rate the Kayak's on Skinker as average. I'll give them another chance, but only because it's close to my house, and they have free internet. more
