My husband and I were truly impressed at the atmosphere here, as we enjoyed a delectable dinner there last night. The Kasbah is going to be one on our regular rotation more

A big YES! I used to eat couscous and I can tell u their couscous was good! Plus, the ambiance is great, it's like Morocco was brought to you. Plus, the people who run the restaurant were wonderful. I'll come back for sure! more

Meh. 2/21/2012

The short of it: If you want to go to a fun looking place with cool music, visit during happy hour or with a Groupon, when it will be a little cheaper - but go with very low expectations. The long of it: I enjoy new experiences, especially with food, and I am generally very forgiving, especially the first time I try a new cuisine or restaurant. I really wanted to love this place! I would have settled for decent....but it wasn't. We did not have a Groupon or any discount, so our four course dinner was ~$70 for two, and we both only drank water. The first course was basically a weak tomato soup, and it had little pieces of pasta and broken up chick peas. Meh. Not terrible, but just not flavorful or interesting. The second course was a salad. It was cooked carrots on the outside and a pureed red pepper/cumin thing in the center, served cold. It was very pretty and I loved the way it tasted. It was refreshing - and there was EXACTLY the right amount of cumin. I would definitely have this again. It was served with some dry bread, which I abandoned after a bite. The third course was the bastilla. This is a very small amount of lamb meat and rice topped with crispy phyllo dough. Basically anything with phyllo is going to be good - similar to the way that deep fried things are good, if you know what I mean. Other than that, it was nothing to write home about - the filling was pretty salty - no other discernible flavor. I did not detect any cinnamon or sweetness as others have written about. Finally, for our entrees, we had lamb tagine and lahm hammer (SP??). Both were tender, slow-cooked lamb. That was the good part. The bad part is that both were SO SALTY that they were barely edible. There was also not a lot of meat, but there was a lot of bone and sinew. The preserved lemons that should have adorned the tagine were almost non-existent (maybe three or four bites where you could taste lemon, otherwise absent). We brought home some of the tagine and I just tasted it after two days in the fridge - and it was still too salty to be palatable and still flavorless. After seeing how many great reviews there were here, I guess I would consider trying it again at happy hour or with a groupon. more

Great Dining Experience 1/3/2012

We had a family night out tonight and it was our first time at Kasbah. We chose from the 4 course menu and every item was outstanding. The flavors were rich and exotic. Honestly, I can't say which was my favorite dish because it was all so good and satisfying. The server was helpful and friendly. A favorable and memorable experience had by all. Definitely a place of many returns. more

Best Moroccan Food! 12/11/2011

I was invited to the Kasbah this weekend with a big group of my friends to celebrate a birthday and everyone had a great time! The place was packed with other large parties and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We ordered a few drinks and enjoyed our courses with two of my favorite entrees, Mrouzia and the Hen with Lemon. They were magnificent choices and the whole group enjoyed them. Along with the great meal we watched the Belly Dancer and some of us joined her as well. It was a night filled with laughter, memories and a great meal!!! more

Loved it!!! 12/4/2011

My first time eating here was in a large group with my family! It was a fantastic experience. The BEST part was the lamb. My whole family was in love with their lamb, especially the Lamb Bastilla. You've gotta try it if you eat here!! It's a must eat. The flavors and spices are so rich. And while enjoying that we watched the Belly Dancer, the kids loved it! After that our entrees came and the Lamb dishes, both savory and sweet, were to die for! Even the vegetarian dishes were delicious! Including the Veggie Bastille. To end the meal we drank hot mint tea with almond cookies that melt in your mouth! This was a great experience for the family and we will be going again. more

great place for Lamb Lovers 11/20/2011

My dinner companion and I LOVE lamb and we are always in search of tasty lamb preparations. We were not disappointed! The T'Faya Tagine was amazing! It is Simmered Lamb in ginger and caramelized onion with cinnamon and raisins garnished with sesame seeds. The Lahm M'hammer is Roasted Lamb in saffron, onion and garlic sauce served with saffron rice and it was also excellent. A bit overpriced perhaps, but we would go back again. Our host was delightful and very knowledgeable of the cuisine. more

Food bathed in tomato sauce 10/21/2011

This was my first time, and both of us were sorely disappointed by the service and food. Since we went on a week night, we didn't see the belly dancing. Given the reviews, we were rather surprised. Both of our dishes were bathed in tomato sauce. There was so much tomato sauce that my wife had heart burn for the next several days. Service was slow. For claiming to be authentic Moroccan food, it didn't have the rich exotic spices I was expecting. The lamb was nice and tender though. The 5 course meal was an insult. The salad platter was acidic. The dessert was a joke: jasmine tea (even though it was advertised in the menu as mint tea) and cookies for $10! I love Moroccan mint tea, and to be served jasmine tea was to take me for a fool. I've visited Morocco, and the food is an insult to their culture. The price tag is a rip-off to customers! more

Memorable meal 8/22/2011

We found this place to offer excellent dishes as well as classy entertainment. Plus the food was very reasonably priced. more

Fantastic!!! 7/14/2011

I came to the Kasbah and the place was outstanding, everything was fantastic! I had dinner with a couple of friends last Saturday and it was a night to remember for sure. The food was delicious and we were all happy with our choices. The service is great and so is the entertainment with the Belly Dancer! I definitely plan on coming again. more

Best Experience! 5/31/2011

The Kasbah is by far one of my favorite places to dine now. My family and I came Saturday evening and it was night we will never forget, we came right in time for the belly dancer. The belly dancer was very entertaining and made it feel more like Morocco. The food was amazing, the Kasbah isn't pricey and theres plenty of food, its a wonderful place to go with a loved one or family! more

AMAZING 3/22/2011

My boyfriend decided to take me to a romantic place and he chose the Kasbah because he loves Moroccan food and he knows I've never tried it. Trying it for the first time was great, I loved it and he thought the food was absolutely amazing. Probably the best Moroccan food he's tried. We're definitely going again when we get the chance, and bringing more people to enjoy the Moroccan experience thats given here. more

Excellent! 2/20/2011

I've driven by the Kasbah for numerous years, but had never tried it until lastnight. A friend was visiting from out of town who likes Moroccan food, so we decided to give it a go. What a pleasant surprise! The interior is beautiful and relaxing, and the service was excellent. The staff treat you like an old friend - professional and warm. We lacked for nothing. And, of course, the food was wonderful - my friend said it was the best Moroccan food she'd had; we loved every item. The 5-course dinner is an great value. We left feeling happy and spoiled - and will definitely be back! more

OUTSTANDING! 2/20/2011

I came here with my brother and a few friends a while ago, and it was a night to remember! The food was delicious and my friends absolutely loved it! Made me look like a champ for choosing such a wonderful place to eat! Everyone loved it and we will be coming back again! more

MY FAVORITE 2/16/2011

I have never been to Morocco, but I have lived in and travelled through other countries in its neighborhood. Kasbah is in my neighborhood in Seattle and I have dined there numerous times over the years. It's a little piece of the Middle East in Ballard where hospitality, great food and a casual ambience remind me of my travels there. more

Better than I remembered! 2/14/2011

I took my mom and sister to the Kasbah when they were in town recently. I had been there with a friend years before and remembered I loved it but that was it. Well, I quickly remembered! It is wonderful. My sister said it was the best meal she had had in Seattle. A relaxed atmosphere and wonderful food. Love it! more

Owner Message
  • If you live in the Northwest you have to check out Kasbah, Seattle's best Moroccan restaurant. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of Ballard, the place is all done up with the usually fancy mediterranean ponges, drapey fabric and ornate tables but somehow it still feels homey and relaxed. It's the sort of place where you could sit and drink mint tea for hours and their food is fantastically authentic.
Try out the Kasbah D'yaffa Feast, the 5 course dinner. It begins with soup, salad and b'stilla. You have a choice of dinner entree, ending with desert and mint tea. There is a great selection of beer, wine & spirits. Enjoy live mediterranean belly dancing every Friday and Saturday night.
Kasbah Moroccan Restaurant is the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two or for a larger group of friends.
