Great atmosphere, equipment, members and instruction! 3/14/2008

Ok, I live right up the street, Nevertheless, I have joined many gyms throughout San Francisco and this is an excellent choice for the casual visitor to the hard core. Take it at your pace, whatever that might be. Instructors who have the skills and experience. Boxing, martial arts, personal training. They have weights, stationary bikes, bags galore....Wanna spar or fight...OK. Wanna meet your next date...a possibility too. See you there! Great kids program earlier in the day. Pros: You mean like a professional fighter? Cons: Too many excellent people. Hard to talk to all of them. more

k1fitness will get you fit 8/17/2007

I took their boxing boot camp over a year ago and I was in the greatest shape after that. Sensei shanas encourages that you keep up with the exercise even after you're done with the program. I joined k1 immediately and learned that their regular programs are just as intense but this time I could take them in the evening! k1 is great for all ages. Kids enroll into the kids karate program and the kickboxing program if they're at least 13. I'm waiting for my daughter to turn three so that I can enroll her into Preschool karate. This place is great for all ages. Pros: I like that they now have jiu-jitsu- and with taran! more

k-1 has brazillian jiu-jitsu! 8/14/2007

I've been training in BJJ for over seven years and I'm excited to learn that Jessica Taran, female world champion BJJ fighter is now going to teach at K-1! \r aside from that, k-one also has boxing and kickboxing classes and these aren't your average cardio sorts. it's like boot camp. but it won't hurt you. you'll only get stronger. Pros: BJJ Cons: no classes on sunday more

hot girs in tiny tees and sweet old ladies 8/7/2007

i'm a newbie here. swiped a guest past off someone's card and met with the people. this place is PIMP. Industrial and non-corporate feeling. People talk to each other like they've been friends for years. maybe they have. I was in a class of eight people and each of them smiled at me and later introduced themselves. Only thing is, they need some bottled water. That workout was intense. I felt like I was accidentally enrolled in boot camp. and the class was made up of mostly women! Damn. more

K-One has badass instructors and cool SF locals 7/30/2007

I love Sensei Lohsen and Aurore! They're really fun and cool to talk and they'll drive your butt into the ground. I've never been so cut up in my life and it's because i look forward to getting to this gym every week. more

K-One Fitness Rocks 7/29/2007

This is the place I fell in love with fitness.....\r I started personal training at K-one fitness in January of 2004. I was totally out of shape and depressed I had never had any interest in physical activity and never minded caring a few extra pounds. however one day I found myself weighing around 185 lbs at 5"" 2'. I started working out three days a week and for the first month I didn't loose any weight, but instead of being discouraged I found myself loving to move and sweat, loving feeling muscles and challenging myself .I trained with Sensei Jack Shanas who led me into this foreign world of exercise and endorphins with caring and confidence, I was able to trust his knowledge and experience, he knew how to safely find my limits and expand them in a way that taught me to love exercising, We worked on Boxing drills and technique, weight lifting, cardio and strength drills, martial arts and kick boxing, keeping me interested and motivated the whole time. Over the next six months I lost 40 lbs. and found a new me; confidant and strong with a love for my body and for myself that I hadn't before known, I have maintained that weight loss and my passion for taking care of myself and look forward to passing this lifestyle on to my children.\r Pros: You can acheive anything your willing to work for here. Cons: wish they were open 24 hours more

I'm 64-years-old and Karate One keeps me fit! 7/29/2007

The best part of K-1 is that there are people there from young children to senior citizens. I've been here since the beginning (thirteen years ago) and I still take kick boxing class several times a week and I love it! K-1 ROCKS!""- Pros: get to know the instructors. they really care about your fitness. more

Fun classes and Great intructors! Totally worth your money! 7/28/2007

I have been going to Karate One since Sept. 03. It is the kind \r of place where your pedicure doesn't stand a chance. Translation: you will \r get worked out! Sensei Lohsen and Sensei Shanas have you using every part of \r their studio- the floor, the walls, the bags, the bars. Combine the rigorous \r workout with everyone's friendly laid-back attitude, and you've got a \r knockout place for all your fitness needs. Pros: they've got me in the best shape of my life more

Best Kickboxing Instructor- He won the Golden Gloves Championship! 7/17/2007

I love Karate One. I'm a natural athlete and I'm often disgusted at the training gyms such as third street and synergy where everything they taught comes from the same book someone wrote that's so played out and boring. Sensei Shanas and Lohsen are exiting, innovative, and extremely charming to train with! They make the classes bearable with their personalities but intense enough where you KNOW they forgot to add the words BOOT CAMP to the end of Kickboxing/Boxing. My little brother takes the kids karate and because of the Sensei's, he's learned to respect his elderly as well as focus on his strengths and overcome many of his weakness, such as diffence and bullying at school. Thank you Sensei Shanas!!! Pros: Exciting atmosphere, great non-corporate feel, fun instructors, and lots of women in class! Cons: Kind of expensive but you get what you pay for. more

A great place to get in shape without the Gym drama! 10/25/2006

I love this place , it changed my life! The instructors really care about what they are do and their students. It is a refreshing change from a traditional Gym and that whole ""world."" The women don't dress up for class and the men aren't flexing for each other the whole time . Everyone is there to work. It is run as a school so everyone knows everybody and cares if you are making progress. You have to try a couple classes to really understand, but it's worth the work for what you can get out of it. If you are looking for a pick up joint or a fashion show it's not for you. Pros: A killer work out with nice people. great for kids too! and they just remodeled! Cons: The bathrooms need a little T.L.C. once in a while. (they are working on it) more
