On my first visit I tried to make a reservation at 5:30--not exactly prime time but was told they were all taken, on a Tuesday night no less. So my wife and I decided to drop in anyway and figured we could get a seat at the bar. Well lo and behold when we walked in they were practically empty--maybe 3 tables taken! I couldn't figure that one out but when I saw the chef come strolling in around 6pm I figured what an ingenious way to slash costs! On my second visit my $ 35 steak was ordered medium well and came out raw---it must be really difficult to gauge how to cook an overpriced steak--apparently only the same $ 5 steak I cook on my grilI mean can come out exactly how I want?, oh and at my house everything else is not ala carte. I won't bore anyone here with a review of my third visit replete with haughty yet inexperienced service, the septic truck I saw flush out the kitchen right thru the middle of their restaurant, or the smirk the owner (Mr. Jordan I suppose) always seems to have on his face (I think it means "looks at those overpaying fools--welcome to my cash cow). Anyway, I just passed the place and found out they were EVICTED!!! Kinda makes sense to me..... Pros: They are finally gone Cons: Evicted! more

After admiring the victorian elegance of the street level dining rooms, we went here for a birthday dinner - instead of the victorian elegance, we ended up in a HUGE 50'x50' room with walls & ceiling painted a dark pumpkin color with no decoration and green vinyl tablecloths. What kind of bair & switch is this? Service was dubious, food left a lot lacking - our waiter plopped down a baset with a flat folded napking w/o giving a clue that there 4 of the tinest rolls buried in it. the "grilled caesar salad" looked like it never been near the grill and had a half teaspoon of dressing drizzled over half a Romaine heart. One of us made the mistake of ordering "Barbequed Flank Steak" (which was buried in an overly sweet sauce that overwhelmed the poor steak). The "free" dessert for the birthday guy turned out to be free whip cream and candle and a $10 charge on the check! Overall, very disappointing! Pros: The Steaks! My future sister in law planned a small dinner party for my fiance..reservations were made. We were seated in a timely fashion as we all arrived on time. From 7:30 when the first guest arrived with the latest arriving at 8pm...we didn't receive our menus until 9pm and didn't receive food until 10:15. . My friend ordered bread when she first was seated and that took forever. The service was just awful. It seemed as if they would have given us a waitress to cater to only us not one who had us and every other table in the section because we made reservations for a party of 12. In addition to the awful service...we were charged $25 for each person that didn't show up. I think that's a bit rediculous and really considering the awful service and long wait we had to eat...that should have been waived. God forbid the other three would have shown up, we probably would have taken EVEN LONGER to get proper service. Being a frequent visitor to many of the local A La Carte, top shelf, steakhouses in the Baltimore Metropolitan area, my wife and I went to Jordan?s this Valentine?s Day dinner to attempt a change and to try a new to us restaurant. Well, this past Saturday, we had a great meal there, no arguments can be made that aside from the Grilled Cesar Salad, the remaining food, service and atmosphere were all top notch. The problem that I had was when sitting, instead of perusing through an exhausting wine list which is indeed three times longer than their food menu; I simply asked the waiter if he would recommend to us a bottle of red wine that was sweeter finishing instead of dry. He came back with a bottle of Shiraz, Raw Power. We sipped it, found it to be drinkable and continued to order our meal. Later that evening the check came and we found that this average bottle of wine ran us a hefty $70, which didn't seem right to me at all. Not one to make a scene over numbers, I paid the tab and tipped the waiter handsomely (he was probably the best waiter I've had in a while, hands down). When I got home, I performed a quick Google search on the wine (you may attempt it yourself for validations sake) and the price for one bottle retails between $11 and $17, which was remarkable. Here we were in this swank, haughty, supercilious restaurant and the waiter is serving us an $11 bottle of wine, per his request, and then charging us $70 for it... simply remarkable. Jordan's Steakhouse of Columbia (or Old Ellicott City if you prefer) is on par with Ruth's Chris as well as Morton's for their food quality. Unfortunately, they are not above the established standard of charging outlandish prices for their food as well as gouging their customers on the price of mark up wine... very, very disappointing. Upon recommendations from a friend, I went to Jordan's Steakhouse a couple weeks ago. I've been to many of the so-called great steakhouses in New York City and Jordan's measured up. My boyfriend ordered his $50 steak medium well. It came out medium rare. The waiter told him the steak would finishing cooking on the plate. Needless to say, it didn't. I ordered a caesar salad. It was the worst caesar salad I've ever had. I will not be going back to Jordan's and would never recommend it. more

Great food and service--perfect for a date! We loved the filets! And the live jazz is really lovely, just loud enough to hear but not overpowering. I have been to Jordan's on three seperate occasions. The first two times it was for appetizers and drinks and the people I was with made it fun. The third time was on my wife's birthday. We took my mother in law with us for dinner. We were seated upstairs which was sparsely populated. There was a pianist who was so loud that conversation was difficult. My wife inquired about the wine selection and the waitress was far from knowledgeable. She stopped and questioned another server who stood at our table and reprimanded her for not knowing about the wines and refused to tell her the name of a specific wine since she should have known it. He finally made a suggestion of a $14 glass of wine that my wife hated. When ordering dinner my mother in law stated that she wanted her steak "very, very, very, very well done. You would assume that it would come to the table practically cremated. A different server delivered the meals and her steak was medium rare. We did not see our server so we flagged someone else down and had them return it to the kitchen. We did not see it again until my wife and I had both completed our meals. After it was delivered our waitress made her first return appearence at our table since we had ordered. We told her what had happened and she acted like she did not care. I had made mention earlier about my wife's birthday but when we ordered dessert no mention was made of it. The food was ok but overpriced for what we received. The service was non existent and after inconveniencing us with the incorrect temperature on the steak no one ever came to our table to at least say that they were sorry. Jordan was in the restaurant and walked by our table several times. The final indignity was our inability to retrieve our coats from the check room. We had to ask several people before we could get the them. I emailed Jordan's the following day to relay my experience and never received any response. I would never return there again. Jordan's has a charming attitude complete with 3 piece ensemble for your listening pleasure. Our party consisted of 4 adults out for dinner with reservations at 7:30 PM. The food was done well when it came warm and the service was OK. Our order consisted of 2 Fillets (one choice and 1 prime), 1 Short Ribs and 1 New Zealand rac of Lamb. Two sides, 1 asparagus and 1 brocolli were ordered for the table. The steaks arrived chilled as did the veggies and the steaks were returned. The short ribs were excellent as was the lamb, but the lamb's portion was not equal to the heafty price. The Bill was $300 with a bottle of wine. A nice evening but over priced and well over-rated. The steak was very good. Cooked perfectly and I definitely recommend to order it "Jordan Style." The wine list was average. There are no real "economic" wines but a good selection of high end wines. The service was o.k (Sunday evening). The price was just a little too high for the overall experience. For the same price I would choose to dine at a different steak house. I experienced Jordan's Steakhouse for the first time on Valentine's Day weekend. I have to say, that I was blown away by both the food and the outstanding service. My date and I were promptly greeted by both the hostess and our server. We started our meal with the tuna tartar and the ceaser salad. Both were of exceptional quality. Also, the portions were surprisingly large for a fine dining establishment. For our entree we had the 18oz Cowboy steak and a 6oz filet and crab cake. My filet was so tender you could have cut it with a butter knife, and the flavor made me wish I had ordered the 12 oz instead. My crab cake was also one of the best that I've ever eaten! For desert we shared a chocolate martini that is to die for. This establishment makes every attempt to make sure your experience is one to be remembered. The head chef and the owner both made appearances at our table. The server presented us with a complimentary goodie bag for Valentines Day containing coffee, bottled water and a butcher's menu. This was a nice added touch. I have been to many steak houses in the metropolitan area and none have impressed me the way that Jordan's has. This restaurant is VERY over rated to say the least. Of course management and staff make all attempts to make you feel as though you are entering into an exceptional dining experience, but as you will see this is all pretentious to make up for the quality of the food. My wife and I dine out all over the metropolitan Baltimore and D.C. area and left this restaurant extremely disappointed. The calamari appetizer had NO flavor whatsoever and the marinara sauce nothing like one would experience in even an average restaurant in Little Italy! My wife had a New York strip which was acceptable, but still on the overly charred side. My 24oz porterhouse came out medium and dry ( I ordered it medium rare) and I couldn't even get the waitress to attend our table for another glass of wine for my wife to accompany her steak until 15 minutes later! We had to ask the waitress to remove our appetizer dishes she neglected because of her intereste in greeting newer tables than servicing her existing ones. The highlight of the night was the house Chardonnay which was wonderful. Needless to say, my wife and I were not able to dine together and this was our 10th anniversary dinner which management was already well aware of beforehand. Finally, being so disappointed at this dining experience, I decided to go downstairs and ask to speak with a manager myself. Little did I know that I was speaking to the actual owners wife who was very apologetic and did make all attempts to make us satisfied patrons. Bottom line . . . there are MANY truly "classy" restaurants with a beautiful ambience and GREAT FOOD to dine, but this is NOT one of them! We like the Bethesda area and find many of the fine dining establishments in this area worth the longer drive from Baltimore and much more reasonable in price offering exceptional value. As evidenced by even the best of reviews, there are several ups and downs of this place. Mostly, I believe they are pretentious in everything they do. Catering to the status consious high income superficial crowd. Our experience with a group of four on a Saturday night left us wondering why. Why spent $350 again to see if they will do better next time. Even if they improve all of the weak points and the next trip has better everthing, the acoustics are so bad we could not cary on a decient coversation. I went several times to Jordan's Steakhouse for various events as a guest. It had so much on the surface: the decor and ambience were nice, although so dark that many older persons in our party were unable to read the menu. It went a little downhill however, every time. Either we were seated late to the point of rudeness or the servers were much too busy to attend to us. It was so noisy once we had a hard time holding dinner conversation. In general, I would recommend going for a romantic evening during the week when it isn't busy, but to be prepared for a bit of a let-down. It's getting there, but could use a little fine-tuning. more

I went to Jordan's for the first time on my birthday. They made my birthday celebraion wonderful. The food was amazing and Jordan made the experience even better. I had to write this review after reading some of the other restaurant bashing reviews above. This is a great addition to the local restaurant scene of Ellicott city and a classy steakhouse which Howard county sorely needed. I am a "too frequent" diner which has moved back to the area and this restaurant's quality rates in the top 1% in the whole state. Great winelist..great service...great steak...very nice place. I've been to Jordans for business and pleasure, and I have been disapointed every time. On the 1st visit it took over 20 mins. just to get our waiters attention. I feel that the filet was overpriced and was not any better than at the local steakhouse. My asparagus, everytime, was overcooked and tasteless. Also the appetizers were few and I could not find one that I wanted. The desserts in my opinio were so-so. I was also seated in a chair that I would have in my living room, it was very comfy but it made me sit so low I felt like I was a child. The only good thing is the wine list.
