Can't believe I haven't rated this 4/25/2012

Can't believe I haven't rated this place since I've been going here on a regular basis since coming to the Front Range nine years ago. McCormick's is one of the few Denver eateries where the menu is creative and different and everything is very, very tasty as well as reasonably priced. I just wish they still served escargot! Good ambiance which is a must for my wife and I. Most Denver restaurants provide neither good food nor great atmosphere. The service is always excellent, not just good. We dine here for our anniversary every year and have never been disappointed. Plus we love LoDo, so that's another positive factor-- location! more

Terrbile Service, Average Food 3/7/2011

Four of us went here for Restaurant Week. Firstly, we had a reservation for 7:00, and we didn't get seated until 7:30 (and the restaurant had a TON of empty tables)...we got no apology. Then, before we had even gotten our coats off, our waiter was asking what we wanted to eat. He didn't even bother to greet us...no hello or anything. They had run out of some of the food, and, the food that we did get was nothing special. I constantly had to ask for more water, and he didn't even bother to ask if we wanted any more drinks. The entire time, he was shoving the next course down our throats. We had the bill before our dessert even arrived. We were in and out within an hour. I would not go back! more

Not serving Veterans Properly..SAD! 11/11/2010

I am extremely sorry to see this post. As My Wife and Kids had Lunch, today, we observed some of what your post talked about. They actually had the intestinal fortitude to tell 2 Marines, that they had to pay for their meals, something about the promotion was awhile ago. TODAY IS VETERANS DAY MCCORMICKS< NOT weeks ago. I feel such is Very unprofessional and not worthy of our family going to a place that would do this to 'OUR"" vets. Yes, I agree a new manager is needed more

Nasty General manager 11/11/2010

Frankly, the GM, Rach (sp) has elected NOT to serve any veterans on this VETERANS day. He states they did so 2 sundays ago. Oh when no one would know! Heres to your P&L Rach.. NEVER TO VISIT AGAIN. And your corp office says your WRONG! Screw the Vets Hey. I hope you loss more Business because of your foriegn way of thinking! SEMPER FI more

Extremely Disappointing 10/15/2010

McCormick's used to be one of my favorite places: beautiful room, wonderful seafood, excellent old-fashioned service and terrific sourdough bread. I recommended the place to a group for a business lunch yesterday and I'm sorry I did. My ahi tuna Nicoise ""salad"" consisted of a few leaves of unwashed greens in a reasonably good vinaigrette, 4 olives, a hard-boiled egg with the green ring around the yolk that showed it was way over-cooked, 3 raw green beans, a tablespoon of unripe, tasteless tomato cubes and a baseball-sized piece of cooled ""tuna""? way past its prime and way over-cooked. And the sourdough bread? Nowhere to be seen Other members of the party wisely avoided the seafood. Only one finished his Rueben; I hope he called his cardiologist when he got back to his office. The waiter, who proudly told us he was from Brooklyn, was arrogant and obnoxious. Don't believe the Editor's Note-quality is the last thing on the mind of the management here. The waiter did not offer me another choice, he merely shrugged at my barely touched ""tuna"" and remarked that it was a big piece. And forget about sending an email to the restaurant's website. You don't need an unpleasant phone message from an angry and defensive Executive Chef who can't say ""We're sorry."" I've been going to McCormick's for 25 years now and recommended it to countless friends. It's a real shame to see it fall to a level below Claimjumper's. \r more

Way way overrated! 6/12/2010

Over the years i have tried this place. The oyster selection is good, but the prices are way high. The best part of it all is the sauces that have been offered. During happy hour, however, when prices should be low, if you order a sauce, it costs twice what the oysters themselves cost. Lesson: they always figure a way to gouge you. also, the physical outlay of the place is severely cramped. There is no place that is comfortable in this restaurant. People are always bumping into you, both the customers and the staff. You cannot sit there and enjoy your time. Overall, the discomfort and unduely high expense provide more than adequate reasoning to make far better selections of eatery. I'd start with another venue before venturing into that place. Pros: Has oysters Cons: Overpriced and cramped more

Really Bad food and horrible service! 6/11/2010

I attended this restaurant with a small group, coming from out-of-town. The food was really inconsistent. It was hurredly thrown together. The quality was just terrible. On top of it all, the rudeness of the wait staff was shocking. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. Granted, we are not from around here, but there is no excuse for the attitude and the very cheap demeanor of these servers. The food was bad enough, but the attitude? They are clueless and walk around as if they possess something very unique. Well, they do, in fact: the most classless attire, demeanor, carrying of oneself, inarticulateness, arrogance, and purely peasant overall characteristics. This group need frequent a fast food chain in a cheap part of town where thereir apparent skills would be put to more appropriate use. Pros: Lowdo is nice and has a certain charm. Cons: The food was horrible and the service was pathetic. more

Best seafood in town! 5/1/2010

Such a fun place! One of the few Denver restaurants where the wait staff are not ski-bum types -- these folks know the menu and wine list and are right on on their selections. The menu varies seasonally and offers some unique creations. Exposed brick and big fish tank make the place a real eye-catcher. If you're not in the mood for fish you can always go to the standby Best Beef Burger ... it is incredible! Pros: atmosphere, ambiance, service, selection more

Poor customer service good food 12/23/2009

I called ahead to order some Clam Chowder to pick up to eat at my desk. When I walked in I was ignored by two waitresses that walked right by me without even looking at me. A third waitress finished up with a table behind me and came up to the bar where I was waiting. She looked right at me - I smiled at her - then she took a drink of her coffee and walked away without saying a word or even smiling back. The bartender finished up with the customer he was working with and was very friendly and took care of me as quickly as he could. The waitstaff needs to learn that a smile and a ""someone will be right with you"" if they are too busy to help goes a long way. I will really have to be in the mood for their food to risk their rude behavior again. Pros: Clam Chowder Cons: Rude Waitresses more

Great food 6/27/2009

This place is very nice. The oysters are very good. I had the scallops and was fantastic. One member in our group orderd surf and turf. His steak was over cooked but he never complained. They bought the whole table dessert without us even asking! Excellent customer service finished off a great experience. Pros: awesome oysters and scallops Cons: small place more

near best seafood 2/17/2009

oysters were awesome;fresh excellent selection and fairly priced. main entree was a little too spicy but palatable and tasty. I liked their house wine double chardonnay and the desert was delicious.\r \r in the end the staff makes this place; they were friendly, offered good meal suggestions. our waiter jeff was timely in service, made excellent meal suggestions and everyone was cool. thanks Pros: service, food, wine , staff Cons: parking more

Fresh seafood, great selections 1/1/2009

I have been to many McCormick Restuarants all over the US, I particularly love the one in Providence, RI at the Biltmore Hotel. I know the seafood is always fresh here, so not afraid to eat seafood in steak country. Yes, trying to find a place to park is a pain, so why don't they tell you to just valet park at the hotel for $7. Hello?.....Our dinner companions ordered the oysters app and loved them. I ordered swordfish & it was small & undercooked. My husband ordered the bouillabaisse, that is the dish to get. Our dining companions ordered steak and fish trio which also included dessert. The liked their meals, but wasn't a lot to eat. Our waiter was good, but forgetful at the end. He had to be reminded twice to bring the creme brulee, so he brought a third one out for free. They are usually served in a flan dish, but this time they were in a ramiken? Not sure what's up with that, but it was a Saturday night, so maybe they didn't have enough ceramic ware to prepare them? I like the one in Providence better, but if you want fresh seafood this is an OK place to go. Join the McCormick club online for specials. Pros: Fresh seafood, great selection Cons: Pricey, not alot of food more

What's the hype? 12/16/2008

I don't see what everyone thinks is so good about this place! The meal I had was only so so for a 25 dollar dish, and it seems like everything on the menu has something gross added to it to just ruin an otherwise good plate. I sort of liked the crab cakes, but they came with a sauce that was quite similar to thousand island dressing and the salmon pasta would have been good, if it tasted like salmon and not sea water. Sorry Jax, just not digging it. Pros: Their alcoholic bevs were nice Cons: For a seafood resturaunt, their seafood is below par more

GOOD PLACE FOR HAPPY HOURS 9/13/2008

McCormick' s is the best place in town for a good value happy hour and beers.\r The patio is spacious and in a good location. Pros: good price beers more

Nice evening out 6/10/2008

The place is definitely hip and cool. The food was good but the ambiance is what definitely makes this place go. My boyfriend thought his seafood platter was tasty. He wished there was more on the plate but he needs to lose weight anyways. I had a nice crab salad (yum). Pros: Crab Salad more

Simply delightful! 4/30/2008

The idea to re-discover McCormick's came while reminiscing about old times at the Cruise Room. (Keep in mind, I'm not 80 and I eat out 4 times a week). The food was phenomenal as was the service. Because of the atmosphere of the dining room, one can't help but feel they've been transported to another time. And, did I mention the food?!? Each dish including the crab bisque, the shrimp scampi and beet salad were simple and allowed the true taste of food to shine. In a time when high-end restaurants are trying to out-do eachother with complicated recipies and unlikely pairings, it is nice to return to tried and true dishes where the flavor of the food is not distracted by inventive infusions or unknown ingredients. For those that are leery of visiting a seafood restaurant in the heart of cattle country, know that the fish is flown in daily and the recipie changes everyday depending on the catch. I could not discern between the freshness of the seafood I enjoyed at McCormick's, from the restaurants I've visited on both coasts. Simply delightful! Pros: Cruise Room for a grapefruit martini Cons: Parking more
