Best

Can't believe I haven't rated this place since I've been going here on a regular basis since coming to the Front Range nine years ago. McCormick's is one of the few Denver eaterie...

Worst

I called ahead to order some Clam Chowder to pick up to eat at my desk. When I walked in I was ignored by two waitresses that walked right by me without even looking at me. A th...

Expect the best+ 9/11/2003

Easily the best seafood house in the city! A great variety of super fresh selections at the raw bar, ample to oversized portions, great service from a super friendly staff! A sure hit every time, even with a wait when busy. You always feel welcome and never an imposition. Save a bit of room for some stellar desserts as well! Pros: GREAT food, Hot Trendy crowd, Great staff Cons: can be a bit loud more

Jax Rocks 7/29/2003

Jax is fun and hip and the place to go for a good time. There are other seafood places in town with as good or better food, but for a great time and fun atmosphere this place is it! Pros: fun more

Good, but.... 5/8/2003

Jax is good, solid and fun. But it is so loud, and often not very friendly. We tried to dine there last week, but the oysters seemed over priced, and the bartender was too busy to give us the time of day. Their fish is fresh, and if you can get someone's attention it is worth it, if a little pricey. Pros: Fish, Fun Cons: Pricey, Too Crowded more

Right from the sea! 3/21/2003

Your choices for fresh seafood in Denver are limited, but Jax has plenty. Granted, this is not a place to go expecting an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet. Jax serves well prepared, well presented, fresh seafood in reasonable portions. The prices can sometimes be a little steep, but the freshness and quality of the seafood justifies the tab. Great drinks too. Pros: Very Fresh, Inventive dishes Cons: Parking, Can be pricey, Sometimes Crowded more

Great Fancy Pub 1/13/2003

This is one of the best restaurants in Denver. The food is great, although you may occasionaly run into a surprise as with any seafood resturant in the mountains. The drinks are little dissapointing but the atmosphere of a casual but fine dining tops them all. The service is great with very polite and proffesional servers. Although you may pay the price, this restaurant makes you feel relaxed and not like you should be honored to eat there, like a lot of fine restaurants around Denver do. more

still hungry 1/2/2003

Unfortunately we ate at Jax before going to the Pepsi Center on New Years Eve. We were told when we made the reservation that only a special New Years Eve menu was available. So we ordered from the selections offered for 5 courses. At the end of 5 courses, we were still hungry. What little bit we had was good but neither of us had ever seen servings this small--not even appetizer size. For two of us with 2 drinks each, our bill was over $150 not including tip. We got a hot dog at the Pepsi Center as we were both still hungry. more

decent for Denver 11/13/2002

Their fish is quite fresh for being smack dab in the middle of the country. Because it is a chain restsurant, a part of me felt like the experiencre was, institutional? In a lot of these chains, the patron is often left feeling like a number, instead of a person. You're in and out pretty quick, even if you would prefer to hang out longer. Their happy hour is great though...two dollar appetizer dishes. more

Let's go fishing 9/14/2002

Have frequented Jax Fish House and have always had a great meal, at the bar or seated in the dining area. Platter was more than enough. Oyster selection always great. more

Shuck Shack 9/10/2002

My experience at Jax's is limited to the bar, but what a bar. Right as you come in the door at Jax's, the first thing you see is a big glass case on the bar filled with fresh oysters. As you're sitting at the bar, order a plate of fresh shucked oysters with your beer or wine - it's a treat not to miss. Plates vary from just a plain half dozen to a large variety of oysters. If you're an oyster connisseur, Jax is your place. Pros: Fresh Shucked Oysters, Delicious seafood Cons: Can be pricey, Parking is a pain more

greatest happy hour ever 8/24/2002

McCormicks may be an expensive restaraunt, but in their front bar area, they have some great happy hour specials. Drinks aren't discounted, but they have a large menu of $1.95 food items like cheeseburgers, oysters, potato skins, etc! Service was very friendly and helpful, and the price cannot be beat. The only thing I disliked was the little 10oz bottles of coke for $2, but they probably need to do that to make up for the cheap food. Highly recommended. more

lost at sea 7/22/2002

Last Friday we kept thinking our waiter was lost at sea. Wine w/dinner--Never showed up. everything was taking 4ever, Said he'ld get us change for the meter--Never showed up. We finally got it ourselves from the bar. When my Halibut showed finally showed up it was 3""x3"". The time before we ordered the $100 seafood platter. It came with about $8 worth of cold sea food. Said it was good that way. The manager felt bad and kept bringing us more and more snow crab until people began to stare it was embarassing and we left. Save your $ and go to red lobster. Martini's were good. Pros: good oysters, good martini's Cons: small servings, poor service, no valet more

A Classic 6/20/2002

McCormick's is a classic in the oh so trendy LoDo area. Since the late 80s it has provided the widest array of seafood in town. If you want amazing presentations, go across the street to Jax. If you like simple, traditional presentations where the fish is the star, McCormicks is for you. Having visited virtually ever eatery in town, I can say that the service is some of the best in Denver. The servers don't overattend or ignore, and they actually know about the food they are serving and understand how to pair it with a wine. This is still a rarity in Denver. Prices are not cheap, but they are in line with the general costs of LoDo. My one negative comment about the place is lunch. The menu is just too big to sort through and the service is definately a notch down from dinner. Pros: Quality of Food, Service, Bartenders Cons: Price more

the salmon 6/9/2002

I don't generally order salmon at a restaurant (for whatever reason), but I thought I'd try a bite of my friend's who ordered it. Even though my meal was excellent (...the ahi tuna), I had serious food envy. Next time I'm definitely getting the salmon!! more

Fancy should not equal crappy. 5/27/2002

We went to McCormicks with seafood in a posh LoDo resturant in mind. What we did not have in mind was being seated next to 2 screaming children and being served raw tuna. For charging upwards of $30 a plate, the meals should come with a salad, and the soda's shouldn't be served from little 10 oz. coke bottles. We were seated right away and the wine list is decent, but it doesn't make up for the fact that our server had to ask me TWICE what my drink order was because she kept forgetting. more
