Incredible Prime Rib; BAD service 1/22/2010

Now mind you, a good restaurant experience for me is the whole package. The adage of ""you only get one chance for a first impression"" is very true. I can go on and on about how good the food is, but it was the lack of good, friendly, attentive service that really was the aftertaste. I don't expect to be treated like royalty, but I would like the effort made that you care that I chose to spend money at your establishment. No, I don't have the majority of the menu memorized and it was not printed on the two - sided menu we received. So when I ask you to repeat the list of 20 or so things you just rattled off; DON'T roll your eyes and say it just as fast. Next, I love perfume on women....but when your perfume hits me 10 yards before you do; maybe just lay off the Obsession for a while..... Do you actually HAVE water for 4 or was that too hard for you? And thanks so much for not asking how things were...the bus person seemed more attentive.... oh ya..the food is good......parking is bad...... Pros: you won't find prime rib like this anywhere else in Sac Cons: service is deplorable; parking unforgiveable more

Delicious Steak Sandwich 5/12/2009

I just went to Jamie's for the first time. The lunch menu was smaller than I expected, given what I read on Jamie's web site, but that's OK because the Garlic Steak Sandwich (which is what I really wanted to try) was great. I ate every bite even though I was already full after the first sandwich. (The full order comes with two medium size sandwiches.) I wounldn't stand in line to eat there, but will definitely go again if I can get there in time for the first lunch seating like I did today. Pros: Great meat, bread & fries Cons: limited menu; long lines if you go late more

Mediocre at best 4/23/2009

I'll try to keep this simple for all you out there who are reading all these 'amazing' reviews and oh yea, who saw the Food Network episode. Just because something's on TV and some overrated guy on some overrated show says something is awesome, doesn't magically make it so. Coming from someone who lived in Portland, OR for a good portion of their life, and knows what REAL dive bar, hometown cooking is, this place is a downright joke. The food is nothing special by any stretch. It's bland, mediocre, poorly presented, and definitely isn't worth waiting for. You'd get a better cheeseburger at Willie's or a hundred other places that serve burgers. The service...umm complacent. Hey, if you're gonna somehow get featured on a TV show, take some pride in your job and try a bit. Maybe it was an off night or something, but my God, I felt 'in the way'. Ok - folks, anywhere...I mean ANYWHERE that either intentionally or unintentionally bills itself as a 'dive bar with great food' had BETTER have more than ONE BEER ON TAP!! What in God's name is this about?!? ONE BEER...ONE!!! I have no words to explain how totally blown away I was to discover this...what kind of bar is this?! And they serve steak, burgers, (err BURGER...just one), and a few other comfort food items...with ONE BEER on tap...priceless. The menu in general...one page...all extremely plain looking items. If the cheeseburger (which I ordered cause it was at the TOP of the menu...as if that's the best thing on the menu) is any indication of anything else served there, please....don't waste your money or time. Ambience - hahaha!!! no wait...HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Is this supposed to be kitschy? Is it supposed to look 'divey'? hahaha!!! It's the most 'try-hard' and thrown together looking place. What are we going for here? Retro beer advertisement mirrors...check. Head of dead animal on wall...check. Where should we hang all this stuff? I dunno...just throw it up anywhere, it'll look dive-bar'ish. HAHAHA! Sorry...it's funny stuff...really. Not comfy, not cool, not old looking, just stupid and annoying. In summary...don't believe the hype! Hey, in this economy, we gotta support our local businesses...I get that and am all for it...really. But local businesses, you gotta get creative man. You gotta try...earn my business! C'mon - you think a quick 15 min of fame spot on the Food Network somehow excuses the crappy food and dull service? You gotta try HARDER now. The bar's been raised (no pun intended). I give it 1 star - the fries were good...really...they were - best fries I've had in a long time. Pros: the fries were good....that's about it Cons: service, food, presentation, beer, etc... more

Smoked Prime Rib 4/12/2009

I saw Jamies on Guy's show and after living here for 60 years I figured I should try the place. The Prime Rib on the show looked good, so that was the main course. Ordered rare, although somewhat red, it was dry and not a lot of flavor. The only place on the cut with the smoke flavor or any flavor was the outside. I was concerned when I watched the show if it would be juicy and flavorful. It looked good going to other tables and I very sorry to say I was disappointed. Just not any flavor and if there wasn't horseradish and au jus it would not have been eaten. I never leave any meat behind, especially Prime Rib, but I left a lot on the plate, just dry and tasteless. I think it is cooked to long by smoking. I do prime rib on the grill and still find it is the best. For $27.95 I should have been overwhelmed instead underwhelmed. The service is a 10, they have been overwhelmed since the place was on Guy's show, the ladies working their butts off. They have clam chowder on Friday's and it was full of clams and a unique great taste, wish I got a bowl instead of a cup. I choice the green salad and blue cheese dressing. It came served in a very small bowl with a little dressing on top. Impossible to toss in the bowl so I turned onto a small plate and ordered extra dressing. Dressing was very salty. Good Bloody Mary's. It is a hole in the wall, just the number out front, a lot of people there from seeing the show. Just can't give the Prime Rib much more than a 4. Prime Rib should be juicy and flavorful, sorry it was not. Pros: Great service and nice place Cons: N/A more

6 stars out of 5 4/7/2009

Guy Fierre knows best!!! Jamie and staff really knows how to treat you like a member of the family! The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming... the food is outright delicious... and the drinks are most quenching! Try the Garlic Steak Sandwich... its to die for! There is nothing in the world like it! Everything is homemade and fresh (grown locally) with lots of love.... you would be sick to not try this place... Thanks Guy! Pros: Gourmet Dive Bar Food! Oxymoron, not here! Cons: N/A more

Well, this is a First 4/7/2009

OK, so here's the deal. I have never stepped foot in this place. All I am going on is the absolutely fantastic episode of Diner's, Drive-in's & Dive's that I was lucky to be sleepless as usual last nite, and caught one of the best production segments Guy and crew have produced throughout the entire series. Ever since last nite I have been agonizing for my go-to favorite carnivore classic,? Smoked Prime Rib."" The way they prep it, the way it looks coming out of the smoker, the look on the lucky customers faces while cutting into that primal portion of perfection, to the ecstatic expression while savoring the end result, makes me so mad I am 578 miles from Jamie's and very, very glad I am 578 miles from Jamie's Bar & Grill at the same time, for the simple fact of going broke for trying to be their best customer, or more specifically, my very worst fear of, ""Death by Prime Rib."" Seriously, Jamie seems like such a genuine guy (entrepreneur) trying his best to provide a damn fine meal at a reasonable price to the general public with no pretenses during these trying economic times he deserves my time to write my review in advance. In summary this review is a precursor to the time when I just can't stand it anymore and catch that red-eye flight from Portland to Sacramento and get my fix. So if you could please, Jamie ""keep that end-cut, medium rare w/ plenty of aus jus handy I'll be there ASAP."" Until then I have a damn fine reason to open my one good eye each and every morning. Keep up the hard work you guy's! Love & Slow Smokin, Casey Pons Pros: 578 miles from my home! Cons: 578 miles from my home! more

Good food and lots of it 12/16/2008

When we moved to this neighborhood from Atlanta a few years back, we searched for a place with the ambience of our much-beloved Manuel's Tavern. We heard about this place, much smaller but felt almost the same, informal, down to earth. \r We were told the fish was good, but we arrived late and they were out of that, so I ordered a Reuben sandwich. I'm a fairly big guy and I was hungry, but completely unprepared for the hugeness of what they set before me. And its enormity was more than matched by its quality. While it's not likely to be the home-away-from-home that Manuel's was, we have been back several times and it has never disappointed. Highly recommended! more

Simply the Best! 9/25/2007

Great food, no pretense, easy parking and excellent service. I only wish I would have known about Jamie's years ago. This place is what Tower Cafe wishes it could be. Pros: It's in Sacramento Cons: Close Weekends? more

still the best 5/10/2005

Jamie's still has the best BBQ & Prime Rib, and best potao salad.. more

Fun place with great food & great value. 5/5/2005

One of the best cobb salads in town. Everyone is friendly and the food is great. Fun place where you always feel at home. more

Awesome 7/18/2004

Agree, best kept secret!! Although not that good of a secret, Get their early or late during lunch time if you want a right-away seat. Jaime's is an old run-down barn of sorts with a gravel parking lot and a car detailing spot adjecent. While the outside leaves something to be desired, the inside is cozy unique and the food is top notch. Fish of the day is awesome, Garlic steak sandwhiches are the best in town.. Old school bar, certainly not high brow, but friendly, long time staff, quick serice, quality foods.. Capitol folk to blue collar all know Jaime's is a solid choice for lunch and dinner. Pros: Great food, Friendly staff, hot wattresses more

i will be back---- 11/11/2002

--the BEST potato salad anywhere--quality items up and down the menu--day after day--plenty to eat--never feel cheated on portions--we use them for catering for get-togethers--great bar---great ambience--just terrific food, fun, and actually inexpensive--worst part they're not open on weekends-- more

best kept secret 8/12/2002

Yet to try something there I didn't like. All menu items are excellent! Specilas included fresh fish with great sauces and great tasting salads. The decor is comfortable and while it may take awhile to get a table, the food is well worth it! If not, enjoy yourself at the bar. Hands down the best kept secret in Sacramento!!! This town islucky to have this big city feel of a restaurant. more
