Where do I start. First off the hotel was built on the ruins of the old salmon cannery. It was built to look like the original building and with the yellow and red colors it really sets itself off. Because the hotle is on a pier, you are actually right over the water. Beware if you have a room on the first floor and the storms roll in, the water does come up on your balconey :-). When you check in the front desk gives you a list of all the ships coming and going into Port Astoria so you can indentify all of them. There are also a pair of binnoculars in each room to help pick out the ships. the rooms are very uniquely done. No matter where you are in the room, you can see the water. Their are shutters in the bathroom so you can wash up, take a shower, or bathe and see the water. Or you can always close them for privacy. Every room has a fireplace which adds to the romance. The granite and marble counter tops add to the scale. Oh yeah the sinks are cool. they are the kind where the bowl sits on top of the counter instead of being flush. Every evening their is a happy hour in the lounge that serves beer, wine, and some sort of snack. They had liquor when I was there, but I am not sure if that was left over from a party. The lounge area is 2 storys with a full library. My fiance and I mingled with other couples, watched the storms roll in, and relaxed. I have been all over the world and this is one my favorite hotels I have been too. This is a must see!!!! We are making this a tradition to stay in this hotel. I almost forgot the last time we were there the spa was not in service yet, but it is now and I have heard great things. Also the old pier to the west is owned by the hotel with plans to build a restaurant there. I can't wait!!!!
Pros: neat atmosphere, great setting, views of the water, excellent staff, happy hour, library, romantic, and new spa with a restaruant coming
Cons: a bit pricy but nice for those special occasions
