Fantastic, largely undiscovered hotel 9/8/2006

I just got here and already love this place. The hotel has a unique, airy, interesting architecture to it. The lobby feels very warm and inviting in a modern kind of way. The hotel itself sits on the Columbia with beautiful views of it and the bridge, and they claim that every room has a view of the water (I don't know whether this is true or not). My room has a huge king bed and lots of space. The bathroom is gorgeous, having both a shower and a bathtub. Next to the tub are shutters that optionally open a largish inside window to create a continuous space with the main room and so that someone on the bed can easily converse with someone luxuriating in the tub. There's a very inviting artificial gas fireplace, and a small patio hanging almost directly over the river. It's a very relaxing, beautiful place. My rate was $250/night, and I suspect if this hotel were anywhere else (and probably once it becomes more popular), it would be at least $400/night. So, though expensive compared to your run of the mill hotel, very much worth it. It stands in stark contrast to the Hampton Inn I stayed at in Crescent City, CA, which, at $200/night, wasn't so much bad as it was boring. Pros: beautiful design, beautiful view, spacious Cons: no room service more
