We hired IronWood Custom Homes to take my childhood home and completely remodel it from top to bottom. It was a large project that required changing the entire inside footprint of the home. As it was an older home, we weren't sure what we would uncover as we got into the project and our biggest concern were the cost increases that might hit us. Kelly and team were very thorough on the front end. We pre picked everything we wanted in the home to ensure that we were on the same page in terms of quality and details. While it wasn't a perfect process from start to finish, I found Kelly and his team to be an invaluable go-between with the subs and when problems did occur, we generally resolved them to our satisfaction. I would say that I'd definitely be better at this the second time around and I learned alot. The cost increases we hit up against were because we hadn't thought through an issue, as opposed to being surprised by something Ironwood sprung on us. For instance, we realized we couldn't put a beam where we wanted and had some work arounds, but Kelly did not pass on the increased costs because he stuck with his bid. But when I changed my mind on how I wanted the fireplace finished, it cost us quite a bit out of pocket for the changes. We did have a few snags midway through the project on quality, but as soon as we brought it to Kelly's attention, he rectified it for us. Most of our friends who have built or remodeled like we have have hated their builder by the end. I would say we had an overall positive experience. My biggest concern was getting the last little items on our punch list completed. But they eventually were completed and we love our home. If it's any indication of our experience, we continue to call Ironwood as we have new remodeling projects such as basement finishing. My greatest compliment to them would be how accessible they (and Kelly in particular) make themselves to us, and how quickly they step up to get issues resolved when they surface. For someone who is new to building a home, I would suggest that every moment spent on the front end to get as detailed as possible would help the process run smoothly--something Kelly and team reiterated as we began. We could not have been happier with Kelly Anderson and the team at Ironwood Custom Builders. Our entire project took just over seven months from demolition to move-in. Kelly and his team worked hard to keep us on time and on budget. And when the little bumps came up along the way they handled them in a manner that was more than fair. The quality of construction and the level of service was beyond our expectations. We've all heard horror stories about construction projects and we can honestly say that our experience with Ironwood could not have gone more smoothly. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. We recommend Ironwood to anyone who asks, without hesitation! more

Planning and implementation went more or less as planned. Quality of most work was excellent. Cabinetry was an exception as rather serious errors were made that caused delays in completion and required changes in other work (relocating heating ducts). Ironwood got caught in an unexpected upturn in construction as the economy recovered from the building recession. This resulted in many subs being overworked and caused delays in completing work. The project overall was completed within the estimated time frame, but it could have been completed weeks earlier if the subs had been able to get back to complete their jobs. more

Initial presentation and plans for kitchen remodeling work was very good. Several elements of the project were delayed causing frustration by homeowners. Weekly communication meetings were very helpful. On site supervision of trades was adequate. Follow-up to problems was good. more

The weekly meetings we had with our contractor helped us to understand where we were in the remodeling process. When delays occurred, we knew that they were working to correct the problems and keep us informed every step of the way. more

Ironwood was good to work with. My biggest complaint is time dealing with the cabinets. The time for receiving our cabinets we were told would be 6 weeks. When the cabinets arrived there were some missing pieces. It took another 6 weeks for their missing pieces to arrive. When the installers put in my oven a piece of wood was damaged and I believe when the granite was installed a cabinet door was damaged. (It bothered me that neither installer said anything.) They could have just said opps! I would have appreciated that. Yes, another 6 weeks for a new door. Because there was some problems with the timing on the counter tops the kitchen delayed. (One of the counters cut short and they did not figure the space correct from counter up to bar. That's okay....things happen. But I did think it was weird to send in the clean up lady when the kitchen was not even ready to use. The cabinets and design is gorgeous!! The installers of the cabinets were great. Tile people did a great job. The clean up lady great. more

I had Ironwood Custom Builders do what would be a very small project for them, updating my kitchen (not a full remodel) and a few other things. They were the best contractor/service professional that I have worked with in my 16 years living in Utah. I have had a few disasters and am very hesitant in dealing with contractors ... I would recommend Ironwood in a heartbeat. They did everything they said and always explained if there was a delay -- a RARE quality. So happy with how everything turned out. more

Overall we had a very good experience with Ironwood. The process of developing the details and specifications before starting the construction was challenging but rewarding in the end because the work went smoothly and on time once we did tear the house apart. We had one major glitch with the wood flooring but Kelly and his flooring contractor dealt with us fairly in addressing it. more

Ironwood did an amazing job refinishing the ceiling on our basement billiards room. Canned lights were added to the ceiling,then sheetrock was installed and textured and finally the room was repainted. The work was of excellent quality and was performed to the agreed upon schedule. I would highly recommend Ironwood for any project. more

Kelly at Ironwood Custom Builders was very conscious of the bottom line. We told him that this was our limit and it was very hard to stay within that. For the most part, they were really good about cleaning up after themselves when they left. I've heard of horror stories with contractors but it was a really good experience! Kelly was very organized. He actually had a book in which he documented everything. He was on site at least once, sometimes twice a day. Ironwood Custom Builders remodeled our kitchen, and had to redo the plumbing throughout the house. They changed our patio door which was adjoining the kitchen, and did tile, cabinet, and granite work along with some painting. I interviewed five construction companies and we went with Kelly just because he was so organized. We knew how much it would cost and when it was going to be done.
