Innovations Aveda Salon

I went to Innovations today because I thought they would have a lovely salon. The website is inviting and the prices are very reasonable. The entire experience did not live up to any of my expectations.\r I walked in to an empty reception area and after about 10 minutes a few women came out, one finally asked ""have you been helped?"" She went and got my hair dresser who was just incredibly rude the entire time. She walked out into the lobby and simply said, ""you ready?"" She used a dirty comb, literally had to pick hair out of it before brushing my hair. Yuck! She didn't really ask what kind of cut I was looking for. Since I immediately didn't feel confident in my hair dresser I simply asked for a trim. I was in the chair for less than 15 minutes with a very average cut. Even though $35 is a very reasonable price for a cut, I feel like I wasted every dime I spent there. Definitely not a salon I would go back to. more

If I could give zero starts I would. I went for a basic haircut. In the past I've had great luck with Aveda salons (ChiWah in Rochester and Classical Concepts in Albany) so I made an appointment. I waited 15 minutes past my appointment time. There was hair on the floor and seat that she had me sit in. I wanted no layers, and she cut layers. She also cut about an inch shorter than I asked her to, and use thinning shears without saying anything to me, which I really disliked. Between waiting 15 minutes, not getting a good haircut and there being hair everywhere, I won't ever go back. more

I went to innovations because I wanted a better and more professional haircut than one I could get in Collegetown. What I got was the exact same treatment and cut Icould've gotten in C-town but for $30 more. The whole thing took 15 minutes, thats INCLUDING wash, cut AND blowdry/straightening. The worst part was that I told the stylist that I was there because my hair was fragile and breaking and she then proceeded to RIP through my hair with the comb. I came out with more damaged hair than I went in with. I was disappointed because I was looking forward to a relaxing and professional haircut and I got neither despite paying three times more than I would've paid in collegetown. Great all-round salon in a beautiful new location. After trying several in the Ithaca area, I was happy to find a place where they pay attention to the customer and, most importantly, remember who I am time after time. Sharon is a great stylist with years of experience and a great sense of humor - definitely one of the best stylists in Ithaca. If you want a low-key, relaxed, professional salon experience with friendly and attentive service, this is the salon for you. Went for a wedding updo trial and got exactly what I wanted. Stylist is deliberate and meticulous so it came out perfect but it did take a long time. It took two hours! I loved that all the products used were Aveda products. The products smelt great and they made me feel pampered. Everyone at the salon was accommodating and friendly. Salon is beautiful and comfortable. The price for the trial updo was high but seemed consistent with the other hair salons in the area. Only negative thing is that the stylist was late and therefore went overtime for my appointment causing the next client to wait. Being a greying professional, it was a real lift to find the Innovations salon in Ithaca, New York. The owner, Barrie French, is artistic, glam and hilarious.\r Plus she is one of an elite class of aestheticians, who does permanent makeup.\r With a minimum of fuss she arranged to add lovely, smoky-looking permanent eyeliner to my receding eyes and brought my face back to life. Surprisingly simple, inexpensive and PERMANENT. This is a well-kept secret. When I went for my treatment, there were appointments all day after me with folks from far away. It's worth the trek, let me tell you.\r \r I love traveling abroad sans messy eye makeup. I wake up and I'm all set with big, bright eyes. My husband says ""You don't need eye makeup"". I tell him ""You don't know. You've never seen me without it"". The clean, airy, naturally lit rooms are welcoming and engaging.
